Gears of War 4 coming free with Nvidia 1070 & 1080s through Oct 30

Bought a key from a guy on reddit 7 hours ago and have yet to recieve a code. beware of PaladineBR

Worth noting, before now i thought these were legit as a lot of people were mentioning it possibly being computer part stores and whatnot. either way, was a waste of my money.

More often then not a glitch like this doesn't exist and the computer part story is the main way people acquire mass amounts of keys. My pre-order hasn't been revoked yet so I think that Amazon/Nvidia/Microsoft might just eat this little screw up. It's not like it was on slickdeals or anything. Probably works out to a few thousand copies at most.

The glitch where you could order a copy of Dirt Rally for $0.99 on Newegg which was also supposed to be a bundle key actually did make it to Slickdeals. They were out of stock on those in less than an hour. Newegg let everyone keep the keys. I still have my copy of Dirt Rally in my Steam account. It supports VR now so I'm going to give it a whirl one of these days.

Same guy I bought mine from, got the code earlier today and it said that it was disabled and to contact nvidia support, so most likely it was from the amazon glitch.

I haven't heard a peep from him after i sent a msg asking for a refund or for a poor of purchase so I could activate the code.

Going to give it another day and if I still haven't got a msg going to have to do a chargeback.

Thanks for the info, ill do the same.

The guy i bought my key from on Reddit said he got the codes from his friend who owns a computer shop so i don't think they all came from the amazon glitch.
Not saying hes lying, but you'd be surprised how many "friends" own computer shops all of a sudden with this game deal.

Ok, I know this may not be ideal, but it may help. Try getting into the Insider Program (but do release preview ring aka the slowest of all the rings). It's in the settings -> Update -> Windows Insider Program.

Do another update to your system...and then try to roll back from that. It will be time consuming though. Granted the absolute best thing is to do a Windows PC Refresh/Reset. Though I believe you will lose installed programs if you do a Refresh, but you won't lose files. I can't remember. The Reset is basically a clean install. Most issues with Anniversary Update is because most installs of Windows 10 come from upgrades of Windows 7. All those migrations probably fucked something in there (yes, MS fault). I wouldn't do it unless it's the absolute last thing.

I remember my crashes were from the app install location being on a different hdd from Windows in settings. I had to rollback, change it then update.

Generally speaking whenever these GPU deals come up, you can always find these codes on the resale market. There are always a few guys who legitimately do work at a computer shop or something of that nature and are able to get them.

The difference here is that there were literally 100s of them and they all appeared at the same time. While there is no doubt that there were/are legit sellers out there the chance of there being more than a couple this soon after the promo began (this past Tuesday) is pretty slim, especially the ones who were selling high #s of copies. It takes a while for these to proliferate normally, typically 1-2 weeks after the promo starts beyond a small # of people who will get them right when the promo starts from upgrading their GPUs and not wanting the game and prices usually reflect the rarity early on and its typically singular copies until later in the promo when the resellers are stocked. I even asked one guy Ive bought from multiple times yesterday and he has not even gotten 1 GW4 yet. Its been the same since Splinter Cell Blacklist (which is the furthest back I can remember getting a GPU pack in game on the resale market). It usually takes roughly a week for them to start trickling in and then by the 2 week mark, there'd be a small handful of people who had multiples and prices start to go down due to competition. For some of them (Arkham Knight and Pick Your Path) by the time we got to the 1-2 month of promo start, it was possible to get them for $10-$15 and by the time the game in the promo was actually released they were even cheaper (I got uPlay Watch Dogs 3 days after release for $6 via buying a nvidia promo on resale). Add to that is that many times over the past 2 years or so, there have been glitches (espc on Newegg) that have allowed these promos to be sold for literally 1C and in some cases they legitimately sold them for cheap to get rid of em.

I've gotten just about every GPU pack in game since Blacklist (every one thats been on Steam or uPlay) and its pretty much always followed this pattern. Sources vary but I regularly saw the same people selling them either on Reddit SGS or Steamgifts or Id get them from Newegg on glitch. Only one time the pattern above Ive not seen happen and that was MGS Phantom Pain, where the price actually went up on the resale market due to demand but the same pattern in terms of them appearing in the first place did happen.

The chance that your reddit guy is being truthful about his source is slim, and Im basing this simply on the history of how these things have proliferated before. If he had many multiple copies, Id bet on him being a legit source at 1%. It takes a while for shops to amass enough of the promo to sell multiples as they have to receive the stock. At the same time, until games start being revoked there's nothing to worry about. Hopefully the game is out before anything of that nature happens.

Its really going to be interesting to see how Nvidia and MS handle this. They'll likely base it on how many activated vs how many codes they were able to wipe out by putting the proof of purchase caveat in place. I think its 50/50 that they revoke, simply because theres really not enough info to make an educated guess at this point.

They won't revoke anything.

It's Amazon's fault. They'll swallow it and be done with it.

Plus, if the game is actually as good as it seems, it's all free PR for Microsoft (since I guess those codes are already payed for by nvidia/partners).

Hopefully the poor interns that made the fuck up happen won't get fired xD

I tend to agree that they won't.

How much are these codes going for? I just ordered a 1070 from Amazon yesterday and they said I was able to get a code.

vgsvgsvgsvgs :(

That was gonna be my keyboard fund, heh. Oh well, I'll sit on it for a little bit, I guess.

The price is bound to rebound a bit since the glitch has IIRC been plugged (or will be plugged at least) and those cheap keys are going to dry up. So take a look around in a week or so.

Though in order to sell it you may need to provide the invoice to your buyer since Nvidia are asking for it thanks to the exploit, so if that is not something you're comfortable with, I'd just redeem it.

That will not be a problem. So I'll hold onto it and try to get a good bit out of it.

He shouldn't sell it as an Xbox code simply because the buyer would have to redeem it at an Nvidia site AND will need his invoice from Amazon so trying to downplay that will just make him look scummy.

This is fraud...
You would be lying to the seller...

wtf are you talking about?

It's a play anywhere legit code (since he's actually bought a gpu from the promotion).

So it's an xbox code. The fact it comes from the nvidia site has no meaning whatsoever. You have to link your MS account (the same you use on xbox, you know).

I wouldn't say codes have been disabled, it's just that you aren't going to go through an easy path to redeem the code until Amazon fixes their ish.

Which will not happen. Because whoever setup benefits was the one at fault at amazon. They have multiple ways of sending out codes and this one is only used for betas. Never should have put an actual game on this way of benefits.

Interesting:

My friend spoke with NVIDIA Support:

"-I am sorry, the codes from GoW has been disabled. We are currently investigating the issue. All valid codes would be re activated , would request you to try redeeming the code at a later time.

-thanks. when? in a few days or weeks?

-Sanjib: may be week or before 11th of October"

Have the keys been revoked for those who already redeemed and installed (the dummy file or whatever) also? I would be mad if I loose my code for no fault of my own.

It still shows up in my library on Windows and games and apps on Xbox.

It's common for illegally obtained keys to be deactivated even if the buyer wasn't aware of that fact.

Is there any sure way to know if your copy was obtained illegally? I too have that small file downloaded already, so I'd like to know if I should put in a return if there was any backdoor shady movements going on and if they'll revoke access for those in a similar position.

Nope. Just enjoy the game. If you do feel shady about it. Just buy the game normally? Idk

That is interesting.

I don't think Microsoft would revoke access if you have it in your library, but I'm guessing the current batch of NVidia codes that are out there are going to be invalidated.

I would think that placating those who legitimately acquire the codes is more important than a blanket-wide ban that only permits legitimate codes after some effort.

I think all codes will be enabled closer to the game's release.
