Gears of War: Reloaded - Reviews Thread

Having more detailed assets doesn't necessarily make a game more attractive. I find the original far more pleasing to the eye.

Interesting vid and well reasoned takes. Gain some and loss some, but some of the losses don't make sense like the effects on the lotus holes and guns.
Also, agree that some of the characters lost a little bit of it's "feel" despite the better res and lighting.

It's an improvement overall, but could've been better with some of the stuff omitted being head scratchers.

I must have completed the first gears I don't know how many times. The original and remaster. I still bought reloaded on ps5 this time hoping it sells enough so we get 2 and 3 remastered too. I did my part :)

IGN reviewer mentioned that they had to turn off the adaptive triggers on PS's controllers after a bit.

I don't understand the appeal either, why would you want fake resistance on your thumbs pressing the button.

Turn that shit off, better experience *and* longer battery life as a nice added bonus.

One of the most influential games of all time, which probably negatively impacts both how it is remembered and how re-releases of it will be received, in a sense.

Nice that it is only $40 on Steam. I may grab it at some point for some coop.

So now we have 2 remakes of the first game? Why not remake the second game?

I have this on Series X for free as I had the other version, but I'm not interested in playing this at all. FAR too much coming out to worry about playing this shit.

What kind of shill ass score is that 10/10 holy shit how does one even find that shit? Here Ribi neogaf member gives it a 7/10 post it in your reviews

Another reason this was a misguided project. Gears burnout was real, but it was fueled mostly by mediocre releases. 4 and 5 has stories fundamentally at odds with everything the franchise was built on, and only half the gameplay was good because robots. The number of Gears fans who want to fight robots is zero. Part 4 is un-replayable because they went overboard with them. 5 they listened to feedback and pulled robots…. from the first few hours. They could not help themselves.

Gears 1 is the best Gears for tone and scope, but the mechanics feel dated. If you're a first time player, even more so. You don't have big nostalgia doing the heavy lifting.

The sad state of AAA contractor developer competence is so sad that a medium effort remake would have only been worse. At least this way, you're still giving players the good Epic bones. They're just old and clunky. Remember: Epic literally invented the cover based TPS with this title, so is cover based 1.0

Picked it up on Steam. Playing on my 5800x3d/9070 XT system @ 1440p - game looks and runs great for me. I didn't play the Ultimate edition, so it's been since the 360 that I got to play this game. Still loving the active reload.

Happy they put this out. I hope they give 2 and 3 the same treatment eventually. I'll buy those too.

Because in most games they connect you to the game and the game actions you take in them. You have the choice to turn it off until they are shipped in Xbox controllers and then I am sure the appeal will appear ;).

Also, I can understand the pain if you operate them with tour thumbs 😂.

I feel for PC bros that this is one game with enough leverage where you turn AA off and leverage downsampling with DSR 4x factor or equivalent on AMD. Look at the details in DF video you lose by going with temporal solutions. Rarely there's a true AA off in modern games, this is good.

I haven't even heard of any of these reviewers.
It's been that way for a while, but yeah, it's especially bad here.

The review score seems fair. It's a rerelease of a rerelease that I already played 100 times. I'm good.

Feels like Microsoft is just tossing it out there because they have nothing else other than Outer Worlds this holiday.

I only played gears 5 before (which I liked) and rather mediocre feeling after playing a little. Good price point but graphic feel like ps3 game in 4k but even bigger problem game is just rough (thats kinda understandable as its almost 20 years old). So many scripts are failing and have to wait a little for squad member or other thing to trigger + checkpoints system feels so old. Fortunately shooting still enjoyable.

Got it for free since I own gow Ultimate Edition.

Jumped straight into multiplayer. That part has sadly aged badly.
On the positive side, there's no BP or other BS

True, in fact I don't think MP will do any service to build hype for Gears E-Day for the newcomers on Playstation.

At least the campaign remains great.

Should have just ported the OG, the remaster ruined the artstyle.

Was wondering if they created any new assets for this game at all, and I guess it's just the character models. Why did they make his guns smaller though? Microsoft truly doesn't understand Gears as an IP. If 4 and 5 didn't clue you in enough. Bro lost serious gains like he took a year off. Ruined all the faces too. I've got my E-Day hype locked away in a cage, and shit like this isn't getting me closer to embracing it like it deserves. Shit like this isn't even subjective, they do not understand the material at the most base fundamental level.

Happy to play through it again given I got it free for owning the last remaster, but it still seems kinda needless outside of it being an excuse to port it to more platforms like Playstation.

I'm just still patiently waiting for them to actually remaster the others, especially the pinnacle in 3 (will buy just for mouse/keyboard controls).

Damn, so it's trash? Expected much better from Gears of War on PS5.
No it's not.
I love the game (Gears is my favourite game franchise)
The lightning in reloaded is fantastic at time (some moments are better, some worst, it's a matter of taste), HDR is top notch and the sound is excellent.
Framerate is locked 60 and the 120 fps mode is good.

The only problem is that there's no horde mode it's like in the original, only PVP.

I'm playing on series X and I will buy it this weekend on PS5 pro.

Now bring the rest of the series on PlayStation.
Can't wait for E-day ❤️

I'm not after the perfect game

I'm here to play Gears of War in 2025 for $40 and it run well. Bout it.

We all want 2 and 3 remasters. But sales on this one will determine that.

Mgs delta is exactly that. And yet …

No, these are totally different types of projects.

MGS Delta is not a remaster. It's an actual remake built from the ground up in UE5 and has a $70 MSRP to go with it. Unlike this, which is a remastered UE3 game with a $40 MSRP to match.

The grittiness of the OG is lost. I'll still get reloaded since I've always been a fan.
Not played yet. Downloading. But that brown grittiness was more a thing of bloom and blur and colors of its time. Not seen this one yet. Other than some videos. Looks fine. Nothing wild. Just fine.

But gray and brown was a staple for mid 00's for some reason

Reloaded definitely has a much sharper look to it due to res, but I like the old Gears art. The old game's colours and lighting might be off as it has a weird way of having dark stuff and then super bright white-ish metallic reflections. But I prefer it that way. Gives it a much better gritty look. Character models look too clean and gimped. It's like dude bro look is down -70%.

They completely missed the mark on that statue in the latest version. You can see that the shiny paint has worn out because it hasn't been taken care of in at least 14 years and the war and polluted air destroyed the pigment over time. This is why so many statues from Ancient Greece or Rome are white, they actually used to have colors but have lost it over time. In the reloaded version, it just seems like the statue was destroyed while no amount of paint is left.

How many folks playing analyze statues in a 3rd person cover shooter?

I agree, the darkness , volume due to its blur during the kyrls scene and rain just makes me go aww, but , they are minor gripes. overall, the increased res on pro , 120hz is fantastic and those touches makes me excited.
