Plasma, LCD, OLED, LED, best tv for next gen

So this tv...Samsung UN70KU6300 - 70 Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV is on sale today at ebay for 1500.00. An all time low apparently...

How is this tv for gaming? Movies? I was going to wait til next year, but damn, 70" at that price is very very tempting

I just have to say that coming from both a Kuro 2009 and a Panasonic VT60 2013, I do not regret my decision to switch to a LG OLED B6P.

The blacks are perfect, the colors pop out like nothing else. There is something about having a pixel fully lit next to another one that is turned off that makes the picture perfect.

Everyone I know loved my plasmas but they all agree that the OLED simply looks better. While the peak brightness is beaten by the best of Sony and Samsung LCDs, it still is leagues above the rest, especially my old plasmas. I'm not exactly sure how bright is a valor of 787cd2 is (top brightness measurement of the B6P), but I know it's enough to blind my eye if I look at it for too long.

I understand that the motion resolution isn't perfect but to me it's barely noticeable. I did some tests like scrolling some web pages vertically at a certain speed and I could see a small blur but I had to look for it and it didn't prevent me to be able to read the text anyway so I consider this a non issue.

Anyway, I love it but I had to pay the price. Those cost about 4000$ here in Canadia.

Edit: Just to be clear, I did not have the Kuro and the VT60 at the same time. I replaced my Kuro with the VT60 in 2013 for 3D, bigger screen and smart tv functionalities. To me, they pretty much had the same picture quality. Yes, the Kuro had better black in theory but in practical term it wasn't noticeable, at least in my environment.

How much brighter does it seem over the Kuro? And have you set the B6 at max brightness?

At this point that would be a pretty dumb move. Definitely wait. Announcements are in January.

Unless you get a really REALLY good price.

Announcements are in january, yes, but it always takes ages before the new products come to market and have their price discounted.

Now is the time to buy. 2016 models have gotten a lot cheaper and it will take 6-12 months before 2017 models come out at reasonable prices.

It's ok, but doesn't support wide color gamut, HDR is "just ok". Black uniformity is pretty good, but unless you don't care about wide color gamut, or lack of dolbyvision then it seems like a passable set if you want a big screen for a good price.
Edit: also an 8bit panel not 10bit

I have the 65" it's awesome for games, low input lag, has some judder in movies since it's not 120hz

So people what is the last word on OLED B6 for gaming?? I'd like first hand opinions by owners of the set how they actually find it in fast paced games, possibly for 2d scrolling platformers or shmups. I know the Leo Bodnar numbers, but for my experience they not always tell all the truth.

I'm quite in a hurry deciding if buy or not (a major Italian retailer is selling B6 at less than 1600 euro, offer finishing tomorrow).

This might help you. rtings buys all their TVs as consumers would then reviews them. Another gaffer posted the b6 specific review above

I had the same exact question. Saw a B6 at Best Buy today. It looks stunning. Do we have any impressions of like Gears 4 in HDR on this yet?

Well, as long as nobody proves them wrong, we kinda have to believe them.
It sure is confusing that the B6 possibly performs better at 4K HDR than the other models.

I took a deal from Amazon on my B6 about a month back - the banding was bothering me, so they said I could either return the set or take a huge chunk of cash off. I took the cash, but lately it's been noticeable. Playing Inside, which is a pretty dark grey, and that stupid banding pattern man. I fucking hate panel lottery.

Apparently it has the lowest with HDR content though. Unless I'm missing something.

What you're missing here is that site has been inaccurate with OLED input lag tests since day one :p

Not sure why they constantly get it wrong but *shrug* they're treated like gospel so they probably don't care either way.

And as Yappa says nobody comes forward to prove them wrong AFAIK so they're thought to be correct.

Can someone explain why I shouldn't use HDR Effect/HDR Plus picture setting? It looks pretty reasonable on my LG E6, it's not like using vivid which is super bright and saturated.

Rtings testing was likely inaccurate there.

It's really accurate. They even re-tested to make sure of it. It has more input lag than E6 for standard gaming, but less for HDR. Strange anomaly, but doesn't change the fact that it's the truth. Another weird thing regarding the B6 vs the E6 is that the input lag with the interpolation activated is much lower on the B6 versus the E6.

Regarding input lag for games, I'm playing all sort of games on it (Doom on PS4, Doom 3 and Ultra Street fighter IV on PS3, Lost Odyssey on 360, Downhill Domination on PS2, Metroid Prime on Gamecube, Burnout 2 on xbox, Super Mario World on snes, Gunstar Heroes on Genesis, Hyper Duel on Saturn) and it's a non issue, even outside of gaming mode. I assume a competitive player with notice it quite a bit but as for me, I can pull all the moves I could on my plasma. Granted, for titles like Super Mario World, Gunstar Heroes and Hyper Duel, put it in gaming mode and you're good to go.

One of my friend had an old LG TV that has really noticeable lag. Like, a side scroller like Mario being emulated on a pc and displayed on his TV is simply not playable whatsoever due to the enormous input lag. By comparison, on the B6 the lag is barely noticeable. It's still easily playable and should not bother anyone but the most competitive players.

Good video from Rtings showing the input lag in action.

The B6 performs the best for 4K + HDR but it is bizarre how it cycles through from 35ms-50ms.

Probably not super noticeable in actual use but hope LG patches it.

It's simply inaccurate. You can't make up color, tones, or light that wasn't encoded there. It's messing with the gamma curve to fake it.
In the end though, it's up to you.

So what's the verdict on gaming on a 70-75" TV? Any good recommendations? I'm currently on a 55" Panasonic plasma but it's starting to feel a little small in my living room. I'm in no rush, eyeballing winter 2017/early 2018 for the upgrade since most TVs that size are a bit pricier at the moment (at least here in europe).

For me, the Vizio P75 C-1 seems to be the best overall for price/features/size. THE most important factor for me was, it supports both HDR formats (DolbyVision and HDR 10.) I don't see the point in spending the same or more and just getting HDR 10. LG and Vizio are the only ones (unless I missed it) that do this. I chose vizio over LG because of the VA panel and FALD (Full array local dimming). I was tempted to go OLED, but I want a bigger TV than they offer, and one that doesn't cost 19,000 or so :)

Or the Samsung KS8000 (KS7000 in Europe) for lower input lag and better HDR.

The Vizio supports Dolby Vision and has FALD. I'd say it is worth the trade off for high input lag. Especially with the rumors that all Disney/Marvel UDH will all support dolby vision.

Yes it lags behind the KS8000 in HDR performance and color reproduction/accuracy. There are pretty much even tradeoffs between the two sets. Picking which you want is a matter of what's most important to you, personally.

So the Vizio P seems the way to go for performance at a good price?
I love my 2014 Vizio P55 but wouldn't buy the newest the input lag with HDR is terrible I can't play like that not when I can feel the difference in my model which is 34ms without game mode and 18ms with game mode. I use game mode all the time except when watching movies.

Hopefully next years models get lower lag with HDR or I may be buying one of those samsungs "maybe"

Thanks guys

I'd be looking for something to get the most out of a PS Pro. So maybe my best bet is to wait and see what the holidays bring as far as deals go?

I think so. Every TV is going to have trade offs. The thing about the Samsung, is the lack of dolbyvision support and it has edge light bleed. But it still has a great picture.

From what I have read HDR on these new sets can be Improved through firmware updates and I believe lag time can as well.

I have a Hisense 4k tv that I've had for a few months now. Purchased a ks8000 for my bedroom last week and man...the hdr is no joke. Picture is so clear and colorful watching Marco Polo. Can't wait for the PS4PRO and FFXV

I bought a low/mid-end LG (UH5500) last week and I'm having a lot of problems with graininess on darker colors, even when streamed through the native apps, so I know it's not a cable issue. Thinking of returning it and getting a Samsung KS8000, because I can get a really good deal on it through the store I work at. I'm basically getting something for a PS4 Pro; it seems like the input lag is incredibly low, and the HDR demos at work look great on it. Other than the light bleed, are there any other problems with this model? Thoughts?

Hi gaf I was thinking of pulling the trigger on the KS8000 55-inch and was wondering if the onkyo 646 receiver is future-proof enough to go along with it with regards to 4k HDR10 and input lag and if anyone else has this combo or atleast the onkyo 646 can you tell which is the best input to put the ps4 on becase in only has the first three inputs for HDCP 2.2

Hi guys, I'm curious, is 3845 usd for the 65 e6 a good price? I am interested in the set but not sure if I'm getting a good deal or not.

You can get a brand-new one from Cleveland AV for just a bit more than that. I think the current price is $3,900 though it could have changed. No tax outside of Ohio and free shipping. No returns though (unless it's defective of damaged of course), but their customer service is fantastic. Can't recommend enough.

I was originally talking about TVs I was looking at in a different thread, but it stopped being active about a week ago, so I'll post here.

I was originally going to buy this set: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019O5F8CQ/?tag=neogaf0e-20 but while spending weeks mulling it over while I wait for Black Friday I think I talked myself into going for a more expensive option. I thought that if I'm going to be buying a TV to use for the next 10 years more or less, why compromise in quality in a number of areas to save some money. I might as well do it right and spend the premium (not insane) cost and get a TV that I can be 100% satisfied and happy with for the next decade.

So this is the new set I'm looking at: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019O5F86W/?tag=neogaf0e-20
Actually finding TVs that still support 3D is one of the major sticking points. I'm seeing it as low as $3,700 right now with brand new open box deals, but if I see it for $3,500 or less brand new, out the door, around Black Friday I'm thinking I'll hop on it. A lot of sites are saying it is one of the best if not best OLED displays they have ever reviewed, and this one is a few grand cheaper than the tip top flagship model that is literally the same thing, but with a different/better soundbar/brain base that folds up behind it for when you wall mount it.

If there are any thoughts about the TV itself I'd love to hear them. Also, should I wait till Black Friday for a possible sale on this particular model that is currently selling at retailers for $4,500 + $450 tax, or should I jump on the brand new open box model from a 100% rated Amazon seller for $3,710 with no tax or shipping? I mean what are the odds that any retailer would drop the TV more than $1,240 + more to cover the difference in tax to make it worth it?

One should not buy anything else but a 2016 LG OLED. Go for the one you can afford. The C6 is the best bang for the buck, the E6 basically the same just flat and with a soundbar. The G6 is the top model. The B6 the entry one with a weaker processor, and thus can't do 3D.

I'm seriously debating between the C6 and the E6. The E6 has the better design, and better sound quality and output, so I could get away with not spending more money on extra addons, but it's a fair bit more expensive.

Where are you from ?
Here in EU lg is refunding 500e for a tv + a sound system bought. As such I got the lg hs 8 as a Sound bar which is much better sound than the e6 I guess (and it's a curved sound bar so looks amazing with c6). As it's cost 499e you have it for free basically. Makes the c6 the best deal

Here is a picture I just took

Only drawback of thé c6 is that it has 3hdmi I wish it had 4

While the E6 soundbar is from Harman Kardon, it's still nothing to write home about. For me personally it doesn´t make up the price differential.

This.

I'm in the US, so I can't take advantage of that deal.

Should I really go for the cheaper curved option? All the features are the same between them, is it really nothing more than the slimmer profile and sound bar that makes the E6 cost about a grand more?
