Emily Rogers: Splatoon Switch is not a sequel, allegedly. Same for Mario Kart.

If the Mario Kart 8 port has a proper Battle Mode similar to MK64's I'll just surrender.

That's it, I give up, I'm done. Take my wallet and go.

Well Splatoon and Mario Kart have new content, so I would expect the same for Smash. Kinda surprised they didn't show Smash. I hope it has all the content of the Wii U and 3DS versions plush a tiny bit of new stuff.
Smash is a bigger deal, not that surprising they didn't show it in a short 3 minute video.

Yep. Hopefully, this is the kind of thing they are doing. More tracks, characters, vehicles, battle mode, and announced ongoing DLC support. That would make it an instant buy while I already own the Wii U version.

oh shit, smash kart & splatoon are some of the big titles i'd not yet picked up for the WU! awesome news if this pans out, that means i just gotta grab tropical freeze & game & wario at this point

need mario maker too but watch that get ported as well

How do you get this from like 5 seconds of footage? It didn't even look graphically superior to the Wii U version.

+ A brand new map
+ Softer shading on the Inkling's skin
+ Hairstyles
+ Pants (which technically means an entirely new gear category, and potentially every ability in the game being rebalanced if they decide to keep the current system)
+ Redone team intro with a different camera angle; new idle animation for every weapon that's not a generic hunch over
+ Different looking designs for the stock weapons, unless they decided to make a 4th variant for the main weapons along with the Tentatek, Wasabi, Krak-On, CoroCoro, Kelp, and Bento

The implication would be they had to rewire some vital parts of the core gameplay. No touch to jump to allies, no live map filling up on the bottom screen, no motion controls (?). Those are huge changes.

I'm not understanding the hate?

Splatoon is very noticeably graphically enhanced, and seems to already be introducing new looks and content.

The UI for Mario Kart looks very different from the Wii U, and we already know we have at least one new racer and a completely new mechanic.

Just because they aren't "official" sequels doesn't somehow mean that the game isn't going to be fresh, even for those of us that have the Wii U versions.

Yeah, I see this game, W101, Tokyo Mirage Sessions and anything that cost alot of money to make that bombed on Wii U getting ported to Switch. Makes perfect sense.

I wonder if Nintendo will send me a code to download W101 N/S as I purchased the WiiU version and still have it, it is one of the games I have kept for my WiIU.

I am sorry, but if the N/S is getting all these enhanced ports from the WiiU, then Nintendo is basically erasing the WiiU from history and also the WiiU owners, why did I even bother to buy a WiiU, why didn't I just sit back and wait like everyone else?

I feel betrayed I really do.

:(

I'm not understanding the hate?

I don't think people hate the ports per se, it's just that people are afraid that those games will be nintendo's main, flagship games on the Switch's first couple of years (and that would suck ass)

as soon a nintendo announces a metroid prime styled game or something worth getting hyped up for, I am sure people will relax on this regard.

Kinda figured

Really not sold on the console yet. Hardware seems great, but as far as software its a few "definitive edition" WiiU games, a new Mario with no info, and PS360 rereleases. Really really need something to latch onto, because I'm not seeing a reason to get one yet. Desperately need some more software info.

You want them to put even more money into those games that could end up bombing again?

That's the last thing I want the Xeno series to turn into.
I meant just for X, because it lends itself to it so well. Most of the time spent in the game you are exploring, doing sidequests, fighting indigens, collecting items and upgrading gear. I'd rather do that with real people roaming the world than recruit some boring/dumb npc's.

Don't get me wrong, I really hope the next Xeno game is more like the first Chronicles with a great story and cast of characters.

Again, if it's easy and inexpensive to port then they already have complete games already made. Most of the money went into development and that part is done.

Because you have a Switch right now?

Porting those should'nt cost too much, right?
II don't know shit about the costs involved when porting games of that magnitude to a new architecture. But from what we have seen (splatoon, kart, zelda, smash?) and read (easy porting) it should be doable. Give em another chance on a new platform with a hopefully bigger audience?

Maybe digital only?

If the add a few new bells and whistles to the games I will gladly buy at full price.

Exactly, that's my point. These ports are made for new players without a Wii U AND for those who already have the games but see enough new content and enhancements worth another $60.

It's not just porting. Getting them back on shelves, advertising those games again, that costs money. Money they could spend on other games instead.

I hope they update also the Wii U versions

The exact opposite. MK and Splat are bigger properties. Smash is right there, but they didn't need to show all 3 (4?) DXified ports.
I know, but I'm talking about general announcements.

See, when a new track or character is shown off in Mario Kart, the common response is usually "oh hey, pretty cool", nothing too huge however. As shown by Cloud's reveal, an unveiling of a new Smash character can be a really huge event. That's what I meant when I said Smash is "a bigger deal".

man, anyone counting on a discount program...hooo boy. i'd not hold my breath on that one

Emily Rogers‏ @ArcadeGirl64
I still expect Smash Bros port. Mario Maker port is a trickier situation. It was in development but...I don't know what's going on with that

Mario Maker may not make it.

damn. i wanna stay optimistic here but it's gonna be tempting to grab that on the cheap/in a B2G1 or something then

What was the first remaster Nintendo did? Super Mario All Stars? Sony has been publishing console games since the late 80s, if not earlier.

see i was gonna say this, yeah, but i guess DK counts

As someone who skipped the Wii U and 3DS, I welcome all the enhanced ports.

Now please give me a decent digital account system and most importantly, region free.

Comparing a team intro for both Splatoon games... I don't see how the Switch version can be even an enhanced port.

Even the spawn pad looks different.

As someone who wants to play Mario Kart 8 with new stuff, it's not that lame haha

Great post. I had not considered that. Honestly, this would be kind of good for me and my son should we want to play somewhere remote(away from home) and on one device. Presently, I have to use my phone and he his tablet.

Come on now. This logic is terrible wrong.

You played it before than anyone else and oportunity has a lot of value in the market you know.

Anyone that expected otherwise is crazy.
I'd rather say that no new Mario Kart and no new Smash Bros. for the next Nintendo console is crazy.

I know my interest is strictly zero, I hated Mario Kart 8 and didn't care much for Smash 4. Not buying this.

I just want to know what's going on with Mario Maker Switch. Sequel? Port? Nothing? ;_;
Well, you couldn't use Mario Maker with the TV on with this thing, and we don't know yet if it has a touchscreen.

My big concern is how Nintendo is going to handle the arena map that appears on the Wii U gamepad.
That, and how would it control? Does the Switch have motion gaming?

Had you fun playing those games?

Is there a chance you or anyone from SplatGAF can take a direct screenshot using the same weapons? (assuming they're in the game, of course)
That would give a better idea if models and such were at least tweaked a bit.

This is the only real change that MK8 Switch needs.
Not really, no. Item balance is terrible, driving mechanics are shallow, online options are near non-existent.

They may fix some of that, but if the driving or item balance is the same, I'm out. Erased Mario Kart 8 from my Wii U, it was so bad.

MK yeah but Splatoon is certainly not a bigger property than Smash Bros. my friend. I know Splatoon is young and will one day be a huge franchise, but Smash is Nintendo's "biggest" property in most ways (except for some other juggernauts like Pokémon and Mario).

Comparing Nintendo to Sony is silly. Nintendo is a damaged brand in the console world and has very little currency with gamers outside of Nintendo faithfuls. Wii U was a trainwreck. They need to win people back. Sony was coming into the PS4 generation as the undeniable leader of the pack. People KNEW Sony would bring it eventually and they did . You really have the same confidence in Nintendo after the Wii and Wii U?
The Wii was an absolutely stellar console on top of being a huge commercial success.

I'm confused at the confusion lol. A sequel would naturally have more new content than a remaster or port. I already spent $60 on both those games imma wait for the sequels before dropping any more.

I understand why they're doing it, but that doesn't make me any more interested in these products.

If Nintendo really wanted to be aggressive, they'd pack in Mario Kart with this thing. Not a more expensive bundle or SKU, just right in there with every unit.

Wanna make additional money off MKS? Sell a season pass.

Here's a $300 device for the whole family, at home or on the go. Here's an excellent family game included, and it even supports two players out of the box.

I think choosing an enhanced Wii U game as the launch pack-in would be a horrible idea, honestly.
