Behold Nintendo Switch (March 2017, Hybrid w/ Dock, Detachable Controllers, Nvidia)

One thing I'm confused about with the IR Sensor and using it to replicate touch screen stuff when the Switch is docked -

Laura has been pretty adamant that her sources say it's a touch screen. Not just a touch screen though, but a MULTItouch screen.

Now if you're just using one JoyCon with IR, how on earth do you replicate multiple touch inputs?

That's kind of suspicious in itself.

Though so many websites reported on his tweet after that I would have expected Nintendo to say something.

I'm pretty confident Nintendo did say something. I know I saw at least a 2nd source independently confirm it

Buttons or control sticks. Multitouch is rarely essential

i guess that can be happen. i wish he tweeted that no news part in Japanese as well, so that we can see whether it's jp->eng mistranslation or not. considering he did tweet the joycon/price estimation part in Japanese before English

yep. i think a lot of people just take the 1st part of the tweet (no more news this year) but ignore the latter one (it's about games & specs) which lead them to assume Nintendo won't talk about switch at all this year anymore

Sooo.. what are they gonna talk about if they won't talk about the:

- Games
- Specs
- Region Lock/Free

?

Because I don't expect them to reveal the price and release date without talking about the game line-up first.

was about to say price/date but that's a good point... hmm minor stuff like Netflix streaming /runs
 
Considering that there are people that would like to use the Switch as a tablet to use apps or browse the internet, it's reasonable to expect this at home but we don't know if it will have wireless internet like 4G. At best you'd have to use your smartphone as a hotspot for wireless internet.

Considering the rumour of the dev kit battery only lasting 3 hours but it's not using the final hardware. Would using a Big.Little configuration for the ARM CPU help with battery power for non-gaming applications?
Basically phones can run for more than 3 hours when browsing the internet or streaming video because those are not intensive proccesses, so the same could apply to the Switch.
 
I've never really payed attention when buying a handheld before, but are they ever charged out of the box? Because I want to play Breath of the Wild with my buddies as soon as possible in a parking lot right after a midnight launch.

Trying to remember as best I can between all portables I've bought, yes they have some charge but don't expect a full battery.

I remember my 3DS having some charge, so my guess is there would be a little bit of juice there to try it out initially, but I doubt it would be much.

I'd buy 2 pro controllers for that alone.

I hope it gets ported. I would rather just get a new game from Platinum but leaving Bayonetta 2 to die on the Wii U seems unfortunate if it happens.
 
I do hope the controllers have a satisfying click when you slide them into the controller attachment or the console itself.
 
I just wanted to say I can believe they wouldn't talk any more about the NS until 2017 and I think it could be a good move. Nintendo has nothing for this holiday season. They are sitting xmas out this year. There is little point in saying "hey everybody, we got this thing coming but don't put it on your xmas list 'cause it won't be out yet. There's little point in trying to compete with all of the game products that are fighting for consumer attention for the holiday season when they have literally nothing.

But, once January hits, Nintendo will effectively have reserved three months out of the year just for themselves. Spring is always a doldrums, they'll have no competition. You have people with xmas money to spend and the shiny newness of xmas toys wearing off. People will be looking for a new distraction. They could start feeding out NS info at a regular rate running nonstop up to launch with nothing competing for consumer attention.

At most, all they'd need to do for the rest of this year is say some minor NS related thing to just remind people it exists until after the holidays.

I agree with your reasoning as to why the silence could be a good move, but I disagree that they have nothing for the holidays. On the Wii U, sure (shamefully so, Color Splash deserves every sale it gets) but between Sun and Moon, Super Mario Maker 3DS, Super Mario Run and the NES Classic Mini, they totally have enough to compete.

Yeah like paying off their mountain of debt from Xmas, there is a reason no games are launched typically during those months.
If Nintendo isn't ready tho then obviously they have no choice but to paint it as a good idea is a bit whack to me

That's not really relevant to the Switch though which is what I was specifically discussing. Console launches are typically scheduled to hit the holiday season and Nintendo is straight up sitting this one out and aiming for quieter a portion of the year.

I've worked retail, Gamestop specifically, and post xmas shopping is just as big as pre xmas shopping. It is absolutely a consumer frenzy. If Nintendo can grab people's attention for that part of the year they'll do well, but they do need to jump on it.

This is the third Nintendo platform to release in March in the US. And only three portable platforms that Nintendo has created released in the third quarter, the holiday quarter, in the US.

It's going to be okay. If there is demand, a product will sell.
 
Not sure if this has been mentioned already but do you peeps think that Nintendo would finally abandon tell Miis? Possibly replacing them with something else.
 
I kind of like this strategy of keeping us mostly in the dark until 3 months before. I think it could work in their favour for many reasons. Rather than seeing the games and having to wait 8 months we pretty much get to buy it within a few weeks after the big blowout. A big focused push at the beginning of the year could do wonders if done correctly. Now that I'm a more casual gamer I tend to not care as much after the initial hype dies down.

No, not at all. Miitomo uses them and they are your avatar for your Nintendo Account across all services.

I'm sick and tired of miis tbh. And I thought Miitomo was a failure? Lots of people downloaded it in week 1 but no one is on there now. But Nintendo keeps developing streetpass games for the Miis so I guess some people are enjoying them still
