They had ports of the latest console games yearly at the time (Cod, Ass etc) and "improved" ports as well. You can't continue to blame 3rd parties for well documented trends when not a single game did well comparatively with the userbase.
I wasn't blaming anything. I was explaining why I didn't buy them for the Wii U... I'd already bought them for other consoles by the time it came out... That, and most of the 3rd party ports were half-assed. That influenced my buying habits too... Drop the narrative if you aren't willing to take reality into consideration.

True. But they could theoretically still go ahead with the upclock if the device is undocked but connected to HDMI and power. I mean, you're not going to hold it in your hand while it's connected to HDMI/power and there's a kickstand for good reason. The active cooling components are likely inside the switch itself so I don't see why it couldn't be actively cooling in this scenario.

Still, it all feels like a really un-Nintendo like way to handle all this, dividing their platform between portable and docked mode. I'd much prefer for them to stick to their guns and have the thing performing uniformly regardless of output (built-in screen or external monitor/TV). It would substantially upgrade the usefulness of the thing in terms of having a portable plug-and-play console and developers wouldn't be tasked with taking multiple hardware configurations into account.

The max output resolution in mobile mode is 720p. The max resolution of most tvs are 1080p. It doesnt make sense to you to give devs more power for the higher res screen?

Clicking the tablet into a dock is imo also a more elegant solution than having an idle hdmi cable hanging behind your tv or having to connect everytime you use it.

Also I dont think calling it multiple hardware configuration is acurate. Its the exact same hardware configuration, only lower and higher clock speed. I doubt they have to make mobile and docked specific optimizations.

Ni-Oh seems to be a PS4 only type of deal though. RE7 is a bit more likely considering its multiplatform though.
Oh, I didn't realize thats the case for Ni-Oh.

But I'd argue Q1 2017 games should be something to think about; there is Tales of Berseria, For Honor, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Nier Automata. Don't know if it's feasable, but trying never hurts.

I hope the Switch has upgrades every couple years or so or have SCD's to plug into your dock.

Idk if they can just have yearly upgrades of the tablet (since millennial people are used to it) or a new dock or new SCD every couple of years. Man, I'm so excited to hear if any of these possibilities are the secret to the Switch.

Ofcourse the dock is the proper solution for when you're at home. But there needs to be a proper video out solution for when you're taking it with you.

HDMI out would mean that it basically plugs in at every household TV. You can hookup anywhere and play local MP games on the big screen wherever you want with the detachable controllers. That's a huge get. Even if the resolution is just upscaled 720p.

And no, I don't think the general audience cares that much about it running a perfect 1080p or not. We on GAF surely do, but outside of that?

Sorry I misread your post. I agree power and hdmi out in addition to the dock would be a good thing.

Unlike Wii U ports, Switch ports have something that other versions don't have. Portability. You can play a full Fifa not a legacy gimped one (hopefully) anywhere. You can play a real COD anywhere. You can play NBA 2k anywhere.

Even with Skyrim, I think it's the kind of game that benefits from not being limited to the time spent in front of TV.

You don't get that on any other console.

But Nintendo needs to be more active in promoting the 3rd parties and must make bundles as I said to try and get also other people on board.

No one would benefit more from open online communities (what Rocket League is trying to push) than Nintendo. That would be fantastic.

Gyro for the A-Button?

Either way, I guess the emulator they build for Wii games would have to able to recognize that JoyCon L and R are the same Wiimote/Chuck.

And of course, you'd have to be able to buy pairs of JoyCons at the store to enable 3+ multiplayer for VC Wii games...

That whole controller layout is pretty terrible though as a compromise. There's no reason to go that route exclusively.

No I mean use the normal layout of the joy cons and emulate the pointer with gyro.

Now I just need PS to get that Goldeneye Remaster released for Xbox, PC and NX with full cross-play!

Make it happen Phil, Reggie and whoever else!

Those ports in some cases were pretty old. If I were Nintendo I'd concentrate on games that would release in the first quarter of 2017. RE VII, Ni-Oh... those games are with publishers Nintendo is friendly with.

I agree but none of these are confirmed for March

The modern glass used in tablets isn't remotely as prone to shattering as you imply. But in any case the old saying still applies: 'Don't drop your shit'.

Following that basic rule has worked fine for me over the years. Never shattered anything and my screens remain scratch-free.
I don't know man, I see sooooo many broken phone screens. Plastic would probably be a good choice for durability and price, people always rush to saying plastic=shit, but there are tremendous advantages to using it, both in screens and casings.

Thing is: nobody buys a Nintendo console for multiplats this gen or last, since the Nintendo console launches somewhere mid-gen (WiiU even at the very end of the 7th gen, and the Switch somewhere around the middle of the 8th gen). People who are interested in multiplats will not wait 3-4 or even 6-7 years to buy a console, they will instead choose to go to Xbox or Playstation.

I do think, however, that the Switch's gimmick, being able to take those console games on the go, will have some appeal to the hardcore gamer who is not traditionally a Nintendo fan. Being able to take Skyrim or (let's hope) Dark Souls on the go might sway some of those gamers; at the very least it would have more appeal than the WiiU's gimmick had.

I don't think Nintendo will be able to attract the mainstream console crowd (that is, the people who some here refer to as the "dude-bros"), but I see opportunities to sway a number of different demographics: the Nintendo fans obviously, but also the core gamer who sees the appeal of taking their favourite games on the go or on holiday or even just on their bed, and lastly the Switch may appeal to the handheld crowd that are looking for a new and improved handheld and may just find one that, as a bonus, gives them the opportunity to rest their eyes and display their handheld franchises and their TV. This way they may not be able to cultivate an audience as large as the PS4, but it should be possible to appeal to the core (handheld) gamer so as to garner at least several dozens of millions in sales in the end. They probably won't need Wii number to consider the venture a success, I reckon, but going for 40-60 million sales should be achievable.

Less than a day until Nintendo's Nintendo's FY 2016 Second Quarter Earnings Release and news conference. It is bound to happen sometime after the close of the market at 03.15 PM JST, which corresponds to:

I am expecting more Switch information from the news conference.

I'm expecting more Switch info. Like new info we don't even know about.

I want to see Animal Crossing mobile

I think Nintendo should do Switch bundles

3 bundles on launch is enough

FIFA (NBA in US) Bundle
Smash Bros Bundle - $270/£225

Modern Warfare Remastered Bundle (with Pro Controller) - $300/£250

Games like Zelda should obviously not get a bundle as that game will sell in its own right.

Why are you expecting that? Didnt the say they wont tell anything until January?
They only said they won't talk about specs and games and that may have been a mistranslation from WSJ. Even though, Polygon said they heard something similar from Nintendo.

Another reason is they'll be talking to investors. I just expect new news from it.

Does NBA sell that well? Here in the US, I mean.

11:15 Pacific? Guess I won't be up for this.

Investors are all about mobile, they will only care about the price for the console and the forecast...

You do know you are most likely (bar Nintendo blatantly lying about not revealing new info about the Switch) setting yourself up for disappointment, right?

Edit: On second thought, Nintendo said they wouldn't reveal news this year about specs and games. They could still reveal a price for the system.

So, you agree with me? I said new news and you're saying we could get console price which I would consider new news lol

And like I said if the translation is correct all they said was specs and games they won't talk about. Even if Kimishima says "we won't talk about anything for Switch until next year"-I'll consider that new news.

NBA 2K is super popular I believe.
NBA 2K is big time popular in the US.

I don't think it's a good idea to release a months-old FIFA port at Switch's launch when the new one is fast approaching. Same with Madden and other sports titles. Maybe NBA Live since that's coming in Spring. But I'd really want those other sports titles day and date on Switch when they hit, you know?

That's not true, that's just a meme. Investors care about mobile because they see a big income opportunity. Switch is an important component of the income for this and next FY. Of course the investors care. Given how the share price fluctuated before and after the video reveal, they care quite a lot about details. So I expect a lot of questions and I don't think Nintendo can deflect all of them.

After typing that out I realized it myself :P

So yeah we might get some news...:P
Satisfied? :P

Has Nintendo ever unveiled an upcoming console's launch price at an investor meeting?

Seems doubtful to me.

Yeah, I don't see the point to announce a price. My guess is that they'll announce it when pre-orders are ready to be received. Probably in January is my guess.

And yet he's likely right :(
TP didn't get bundled with the Wii..

That makes me wonder what the Wii Sports for Switch will be. You can't really translate its USP into gameplay mechanics, unless we don't know everything about it yet (which I assume).

What would be super awesome is a game that does something different when it's not in the dock. Like a Pokémon game that is Pokémon on TV and Pokémon GO on the go kind of deal.

Since the pitch is "it's the same game yo" I don't see it happening though.

Launch lineup looks fine but why do you think the dude bruhs would want to get a Switch? Were they waiting for Nintendo's new hardware or what? They're on PS4 and XBO already.

My launch lineup looked almost exactly like yours. But I expect they also try to get Overwatch, Dragon Quest Builders, and World of Final Fantasy.

I also think Splatoon or Mario Kart are a launch game instead of smash.

No bundles at launch, just one $249.99 sku with a cheap proof of concept title packed in (Switch Sports?). Holiday 2017 is when they roll out the bundles (Super Mario, COD, FIFA for EU, DQXI for JP).

WOFF is a flop, they won't bother. DQ Builders would be a nice primer for DQX V4 and DQXI later in the year though. Maybe throw in online multi for the game.

I know the other topic is kind of dead, but did anybody get a Mass Effect feel from the 3D Mario game? lol I know that sounds crazy.

Like the Mexican town felt like it was on Mars (I know it could be desert). Like all the area around it just looked like a ground you would see if they wanted you to think you were on a different planet. Then they showed the big moon in the back.

Maybe, it's like Galaxy with the planetoids, but on a much larger scale with big planets that feel like their own worlds with towns and stuff.

Well at least investors can be told that with the Switch those long bus journeys to the investors meeting they always complain about will be a lot more fun.

How about:

Mario Galaxy Maker

You know what? I want Nintendo Land 2. Instead of attractions being polished GamePad concept demos, make them a bite-sized chunks of mainline Nintendo games (look at Metroid Blast or Pikmin Adventure from Nintendo Land, for example).

Besides, Nintendo Land is a great game and deserves at least a spiritual sequel.
