Plasma, LCD, OLED, LED, best tv for next gen

According to RTings.com, the Samsung KS8000 is capable of 4K @ 60Hz @ 4:4:4 chroma subsampling @ HDR results in 37.6 ms of input lag. Is this all achievable in game mode (which I assume I must be on for the PS4 Pro)?

My next question, if the TV supports 120Hz refresh rate, I take it that its not capable with these modes enabled? Or does it not matter as games are 60fps and under on the PS4 Pro?

No TV can currently do 4K @ 120hz.

2017 will be the year when that becomes a thing.

That's a bit of a misleading number if youre unfamiliar with the tv. The 37ms comes from that being the input lag on PC mode, which is the only mode that displays true 444. You can put it on game mode and get 4k 60 HDR at 22ms lag, itll just display images at 422 chroma, which isn't going to matter for ps4 pro, 444 is just for clearer text on pc monitors. Hell I use my KS8000 as a pc monitor and I just leave it in game mode, I honestly cannot see a benefit of 444 from 6 feet away, it's more for when you have a monitor right up in your face.

So I'm waiting for my C6. Until then though.

any advice from OLED Owners on what to do went it gets here?

I purchased the 2 year squaretrade extended warranty for $70, but I'm wondering if I should cancel that...and maybe get one through LG? on their site it seems to be a similar price.

someone else on another forum mentioned getting one through Costco/Squaretrade.

I'm leaning on going through LG, just because I'm thinking it *should* be less of a hassle if God Forbid I had to return it.

Costco/Squaretrade is the one I got, it's 4 years of extra coverage for like $90

I just got a KS8000 and have a scaling question. When hooking up a PC to the screen should I adjust the nvidia panel resolution setting to 1080p when viewing and/or playing 1080p content? or can I leave the nvidia resolution set to 4K and the TV will still scale any 1080 content accordingly?

Set your desktop resolution to 2160p.

Yea the nice thing is it's a great quality TV generally, and cheap so if down the line you decide to step up to a nicer 4K full HDR set you'll probably be able to get a nice chunk of your cash back.
awwww yeay~!! thanks again mang, I'm back from Best Buy!

I paid $330 for this! (before tax and whatever $5 fee)

and when I went to go in-store pick up, they're like

"oh btw we're refunding you $30 coz it went on sale again"

so dang, with a deal like that I should just open the thing now instead of waiting til after Thanksgiving.

Pretty sure even if I can get it cheaper, it wont be by too much and probably not worth the effort.

As far as PC goes, am I going to need a specific kind of HDMI cable for 4K? And what kind of resolution would I have to set it to?

Furthermore, how is PC gaming in that resolution? Does it require a crazy high-end PC to work properly?

Yup I was just in store today and they said they were dropping it to $300 in the ad next week. Let us know how you like it! I really think you will.

This is my TV: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BCGRLUI/?tag=neogaf0e-20

According to Google, I'm supposedly hitting 100ms. I don't play in Game Mode.

So I really don't think 70 or whatever is "unplayable".
That must be tough, but I do know that I can get used to it over time. My mom has an old DLP set with really, really high input lag and while it extremely bothers me at first when I use it, I surprisingly get used to it and seem to be able to compensate. Games that rely on quick reflexes though like rhythm games are unplayable.

Coming home to my setup is always like a breath of fresh air though lol.

Damn. I don't know how you play with 100ms input lag. That'd definitely be unplayable for me.

I guess the OLED HDR lag is an upgrade for you lol. A big upgrade.

I mean, I push a button, a thing happens pretty much immediately.

If one tenth of a second is really needed over half a second, I guess it would prove annoying.

Meanwhile I'm practically drooling over the thought of playing FFXV at launch at 4K.

I have this in a different size and love it

The color is great and input lag is low and feels snappy. It can do HDR in game mode too. Just make sure dynamic contrast is set to 'high' when viewing HDR content

Selling because of the input lag thing?

Heh, Kyoufu, you kinda changed your tune these last few days, considering you seemed so happy with the input lag and all. :D

I only have one HDR game (Second Son) and so far it's playable and I'm not having any issues, but I need to test it more with twitchy games like BF1, CoD etc.

I mainly want HDMI 2.1 to be honest, since it doesn't look like dynamic metadata HDR10 can be patched in with HDMI 2.1 spec. :(

I really think people are making too big a deal about input lag.

Which wouldn't surprise me, it's GAF and all, but all I seem to take away from the conversations is that the E6 is the single best looking 4K TV out there minus that one nitpick that may not be as bad as people claim or may get patched as the B6 has already gotten.

Probably been discussed to death already, but a quick skim over the last few pages didn't answer my questions:

Is it worth the extra $300 for the E6P or should I go with the C6P for the 55" 4k OLED LG TVs?

55" OLED55C6P curved

55" OLED55E6P Flat w/ 3D & Soundbar

I've been wanting to hold out for a 65", however I'm not sure Black Friday will have a better deal than this. I do not mind spending the extra money if the TV is legitimately better.

I also figure I can always cancel if something better comes along.

Apath, I recommend waiting for 2017 OLEDs in March. There should be meaningful improvements made (brightness, HDR input lag, better overall performance).

But if you really can't wait, there's no difference in spec between the E and the C other than the built-in soundbar and flat panel of the E. Get whichever you prefer.

The problem with UHD Blurays is that there are no 3D UHD Blurays as far as i know (it is not part of the UHD specification). I think that's a reason why many 4k TVs dropped 3D support. So maybe save the extra 300 when you plan to watch only 4k movies, because you have to choose between the 3d or 4k version.

Got my G6P in after a friendly 3 week wait for import "issues" - it's way bigger than I expected.

Took a while to figure out how HDR mode works on this set, as you have to turn on a setting in the menu to get HDMI 1 and 2 to recognize HDR signals.

Oddly enough, out of the box the HDR bright setting seems to have a huge dramatic effect in how HDR looks - but I suspect that may be due to the brightness cranked up to max in that setting. Any lower though it seems oddly off looking.

Will keep tweaking/adjusting things a bit. Don't have my colorimeter with me so can't play around with that to try and nail the gamma curve (that and I don't think the software I have for it can actually calibrate this set's gamma properly).

Will we see prices around this in March? I do not mind waiting--I have a perfectly good 42" TV that is still alive and kicking from 2011, but I do not want to wait until then only for the prices to be around $3000.

Probably not going to be this low to start with, no, unless LG's new OLED production method is up and running in time for the new models.

Hm, this is a tough call then. I appreciate your input!

I may end up just cancelling and holding out.

Ordered a 55e6 from the sale this weekend a bit on impulse. I'm very excited but slightly concerned about lag in HDR now that I'm doing the research I should've done earlier.

I'll be replacing a Samsung LNT4671F LCD from 2007. I can't find any numbers on lag for that set but is it a safe assumption that the E6 will be better in that regard?

Have TVs in general gotten better with lag over time or perhaps worse with more image processing?

Don't know about better, but I at least wouldn't say that they've gotten worse.
There have always been sets with low input lag (a few years ago it was mainly Sony, nowadays it's Samsung that does very well in that regard).

So how are OLED's game mode like?
This year's sets do very well (better than last year's), as long as they're displaying SDR content. HDR though...

So, what do you guys recommend in the LG OLED line up?(Eruopean ver.) I've been thinking about the E6 but been reading that the B6 got an update that is not possible on the E6 or something?

If you need a soundbar and 3D, E6.

If you just want 3D, C6.

If you don't care for either, B6.

They all have identical picture quality.

Which is what I know already but there are talks on the previous page about an HDR firmware update for B6 that sounds like it's not possible on E6 or whatever? other then that I may go for the E6.
