Sony X800D well - reviewed, 4k+HDR TV with low input lag

Idk lol. I'm MORE than satisfied and this was a huge, huge upgrade from my previous TV. Everything looks glorious on it but I'm not really a technophile so idk. I just see other people raving over that Samsung and I'm like ok, well, maybe I'll try that one out. I got this from Best Buy so thankfully I have until January 30th to return. But like I said in my previous post the more I use androidOS the more I'm not convinced I could give it up.

Yeah it's great. I hate Android on phones but I've gotta say I love it on TVs. The possibility to sideload apps and effortlessly pair a KBM combo thingy like this is fantastic. If you're a power user, I imagine no other Smart TV OS comes close in terms of possibilities. My brother has an LG and was blown away when I showed him my app setup haha
You could always get a Shield TV if you want to stay true to Android TV but move to another model btw.
 
Does anyone have a source for calibrating a ku6400 Samsung. Not able to help him physically and he's having no luck via internet or experimenting.
 
I got the 49" yesterday and I love it. The Android features are awesome (Kodi and Plexbuilt in?!) and Unchartered in HDR 4K looks BEAUTIFUL... Butnufortunaly my panel has significant light bleeding in the bottom left and right corners so I'll have to return it - which is a pain in the ass because there aren't any in stock in store at Best Buy in Toronto.

I haven't been able to find a single case of light bleed for this panel anywhere I seem to be really unlucky.

43" models have VA panel and better blacks, while 49" and up are IPS and have more backlight bleed.
 
How come there's no 4K BR version of Star Wars The Force Awakens yet???

I was really hoping to pick it up alongside a 4K TV :/
And hopefully the Jessica Jones BR set will include 4K.

OMG the Bourne movies are getting 4K treatment yassssss
 
I feel like I've won the lottery or that I am living way beyond my means whenever I look at my TV, when really it's just one step up from entry level and £600 at Tesco. It's ridiculous.

I got Mad Max on 4K Bluray as a treat (they're way too expensive to make a habit of) and it looked pretty stunning. The only downside is trying to arrange people around it so that they're within the viewing angle sweet spot.

Yeah man I have this TV. And it's really good for the price you pay. It can hang with some of the more expensive sets easy. KS8000 or the LG OLED is still better than this TV but the cost difference is also very high. Sony really did a great job with the xbr800d models.

Do you have everything on automatic? Uncharted HDR just seemed to switch on a 'wash out' filter for me

The X930D not only has a much better processor for upscaling and picture, but has local dimming, full HDR10 with over 1000+nits of brightness etc. Better motion capabilities. Which is why I said the caveats as I did. Yes, if you want local dimming and higher peak brightness for better future proofing of HDR10, then it's your choice. But if we're just comparing the same type of panels and the difference in static contrast ratio, the performance difference isn't as bad as you would think if you did a side-by-side comparison. It's also $650 versus $1,600 so it's tremendous value . So while the X930D is pretty nice, it's still an edge-lit display w/ local dimming compared to FALD w/ local dimming and the real flagship is the ZD9 anyway like you said. So unless you needed the size, I would rather get a cheaper option now and upgrade in another 5 years to something like the ZD9 or its successors when they're possibly around the same price as a X930D now, but people have other priorities than me. I owned an X800D too, but I upgraded to a LG OLED because I couldn't handle the light bleed anymore for the brief time I had it and the ZD9 is a beast.

this is a good point. I'm being swayed by the X93D and the LG B6, but the LG is twice the price of the X800D. As HDR is still maturing, it might make sense to have a still pretty damn good X800 for a lot less money, and be prepared to update in a couple of years.
 
So has anyone turned HDR on, played a HDR game, and then altered the tv settings to adjust contrast and colour etc? I'd love to know your settings. Mine looks washed out but I don't know if HDR is meant to be making it more realistic?

Are you trying to run RGB Full or Limited? Make sure both the console and TV are set to Limited (in the TV settings it's under HDMI video range).

Well, if you opted for the XD93 instead of the XD80, how long did you consider keeping it before upgrading? Yeah, if you get the XD80 instead of the XD93, you lose local dimming for a better contrast ratio and higher peak brightness for better specular highlights, but the color depth is still very comparable between the two, which is also what HDR is about too. That's how I see it.
 
I'd all that stuff on automatic.

Has anyone with the tv experienced my audio lag on PS4 Pro? Half a second delay in audio until you flick audio output on PS4 to Dolby then back
 
I keep all my settings in automatic after getting the ps4 pro. And so far the games i have tested looks fantastic. R&C on HDR looks amazing.
 
Can someone tell me some best settings profiles for HDR mode with the PS4 Pro?

Right now I'm using Cinema Home, but with colour set to 75 (25 above the profile) and Contrast set to 100 (10 above the profile).

I turn the Reality Creation on (default) and off but don't really notice a difference, so I just leave it off.

I believe the dynamic contrast option is on medium, which is default for Cinema Home.

It looks pretty good, but just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions.

Well, I just pulled the trigger on a 55 inch model for 920€, which seems like a solid deal, considering it's 1020€ on amazon. I'm hyped.
 
Think we will see any BF deals on this (or competing 42-46" sets)? I don't want to pull the trigger right before BF.

Meaning retailers cannot discount which is why it isn't available at Costco etc. Unless Sony discounts you won't see any massive or sudden drops. Black Friday is also a day for retailers to clear stock or 'get in the black'. This is a model that stays in very limited quantities. Check for yourself. Almost every store I tried to buy it in it was not in stock online or 1 model on hand besides the on shelf display. So retailers won't be pressuring Sony to clear stock with massive discounts etc.

Eventually it will come down but I don't see it happening soon as the television just came out at and at 40"-49" nothing really competes with price/quality.

You still need to purchase UFC 205 HD to watch it in 4K though...
 
Amazon US has the 43" version for $649 with no tax from a third party seller. I'm seriously considering throwing it on the ol amazon card with 24 month no interest.

I'm concerned though about the peak brightness thing. Is that going to be a negative moving forward? I'm well versed in rec 709 calibration and 300 brightness is insane for that, but I read that for HDR it's different.

Any other negatives, or reasons I should hold off?
 
Copped this tonight. Got it open box from BB for 594. Total was 645 w/ tax. Just finished reconfiguring my room with it. No PS4Pro though. Just will be doing the HDR on PS4. Do I need to Plus the PS4 into any particular HDMI slot to utilize HDR?
 
Is this tv really worth the extra $250 over the 40 inch Samsung KU6300 ($400) for having deep color gamut? As an added bonus, the Samsung also has lower input lag and is slightly brighter.

That is for you to decide. Ask yourself why the Samsung is cheaper. The brightness difference factor is negligible here, but only the X800D has a true 10 bit panel, wide color gamut (this matters the most for HDR), has better motion, better os system etc. Ultimately the Sony is better at 4K HDR than the Samsung 6300 etc. Whether that difference matters to justify the cost only you can answer.
