Star Wars KOTOR 2 Gets Big Update + out on Mac & Linux

Sorry for bumping this, but I'm planning on buying this on Steam and just wanted to know if the controller support means that you just pkug in controller and play ? i.e., do I have to map anything to the controller or is everything taken care of ?

Also, does KOTOR II allow me to use the Xbox One wireless controller with the usb adapter ?

Yeah, it's plug and play. Don't have to setup anything.

Yes it's essentially plug and play with a controller going by xinput. Worth noting though the PC controller scheme isn't the same one as the Xbox versions had, so it may throw you off for a bit there.

Should be plug and play with most controllers.

Game glitched out in me after meeting all the Jedi so fuck this game...

All those hours gone to waste......

They should remaster this and the first one for current consoles tho

How much more does the restore content add? Is vanilla version still good without it?

It restores a non-negligible amount of dialog, some of which is fairly important. The game works well enough without it, but considering how easy it is to install from the Steam Workshop, there's no reason not to get it.

Yeah, I love this game (slightly more than the first one even), but if you don't mod it, you'll probably need to come here and start a thread to explain some things. Towards the end, there's a ton of missing cutscenes that you really need to understand what's happening.

The mod also contains a fair chunk of bug fixes given the development history of kotor 2, so there's really no reason not to be using it.

I'd love it if BioWare made a loose full remake that didn't copy the original directly and was new-canon approved.

The problem if they did something like that is they would inevitably remove the old school dice rolling RPG gameplay and actionfy it. I cannot possibly imagine that modern Bioware would make a game that was all stat based in that manner.

Last I recall when I started it on a whim it supported Xinput just fine. Original versions had no controller support whatsoever, so you wouldn't have to worry about DirectInput stuff here.

I dont consider that a problem. New games dont make old games stop existing. An actiony star wars RPG would probably sell very well anyway. The whole point of suggesting a loose indirect remake was so that it didn't have to be the exactly the same as the old game. It'd manage to recanonize certain ideas while still delivering a more fresh experience than a basic remaster.

But I guess that might make certain parts of the internet upset so maybe they would just be better off making a new rpg that has nothing to do with kotor.

The problem isn't BioWare changing the gameplay. I don't think KoTOR was ever an exceptional CRPG to begin with. In fact, I think it's an overly simplified dice roll system that, unlike Mass Effect, isn't nearly action-y enough to justify its streamlining. Though, I'm not sure BioWare would be able to accurately recreate the sophisticated atmosphere of KoTOR II's environments. BioWare's visual atmosphere and environmental storytelling has always lagged behind Obsidian's.

However, the actual problem is that BioWare either doesn't get or doesn't like what direction Obsidian took the franchise. TOR, and external lore for the Old Republic era that came out after KoTOR II has either directly retconned or retroactively neutered Obsidian's brilliant take on the universe. If KoTOR II were to come back, I would only want it done by its original creators.

I do wonder why Bioware is so picky/salty about KOTOR II. I mean it's an amazing game. I believe it's even better than the first one! The only big issue with it is how it was criminally cut short due to LucasArts's shenanigans. It had some great lore establishing moments as well!

Well actionfying it wouldn't be bad thing. Kotor's combat is straight garbage while I'm not a fan of the combat in Dragon Age Inquistion, it still is a major improvement over Kotor.
