Pokémon Sun & Moon |OT| Ultra Beasts and where to find them

This thread is moving faster than the three starters.

From what I know of the TM locations, I don't think you get Thunderbolt until much later. Would love for someone to correct me if wrong though, since Pikachu is starting to drag me down.

I got Thunderbolt at the last island, post game.

You do, after you wonder trade go into the castle and the person you traded with will be by the construction guy, and give you 2 fc. You can wonder trade inside to make it simpler

You are a lifesaver.

Do you have do the greeting right after trading, or do a couple stick around if you've done a few?

I'm pretty sure you need to greet before your next trade. Unless you can find them outside, since that person always updates with the last person you trade with.

Havent played pkmn in awhile, but it feels like its getting unnecessarily busy and complex in the wrong areas. Turn off to me.

A lot of it is good though for an inbetween to the next gen

Oh man, the frame slowdown in double battles are apparent as hell (OG 3DS user here). Just when I was thinking the 1v1 battles weren't so bad, the framerate slows seem to be based on the size of the Pokemon in battle? I had no visible frame drops before my Popplio evolved/started battling larger Pokemon.

Ah well, even if it doesn't help all that much, I'll look forward to playing this on a N3DS assuming I get my hands on one soon.

Yeah the double battle framerate is terrible on the OG 3DS/XL. I was entertaining the concept of getting a NN3DS since it's only $99 for Black Friday, but I'm having a hard time justifying even that price tag with the Switch so close.

Nuzlocke Stats!

I'm on my way to the fire trial after dealing with the Wishiwashi that was super strong and almost killed one of my grass Pokemon. Honeslty though the hardest fight so far was the first fight against a named NPC from Steam Skull and his...
Type: Null
Holy shit that thing hit hard, my Magnemite weakened it enough for my starter to kill it but lost its life in the process (Pursuit was evil).

Current Team:
Brionne (Foust) - Level 21
Mudbray (Derpette [what look at its face!]) - Level 19
Steenee (Bouncee) - Level 20
Misdreavus (Xecces) - Level 21
Makuhita (Vewner) - Level 19
Kadabra (Shedden) - Level 19

Overall thoughts: I lost my bird, magnemite, and like one other thing since I last updated. The Water Trial would have been nuts without another grass Pokemon I had that had really good special Defense, Petilill I think is the name I wanted another physical attacker so I went with the Steenee I got via a trade in game (normally I don't do trades but this is a new game so I do want to experience it) and I really like this design don't see a lot of Physical attacking grass Pokemon anymore.

My starter was starting to get a little bit on the under powered side then I got the TM for Scald and I was like O_O like seriously already!? She hasn't even learned another water move besides Aqua Jet and I already have Scald? Crazy, not worried about the fire trial thats for sure XD

Things are going okay, Kadabra still hasn't learned Confusion (seriously whats up with that?) but I taught it Hidden Power and Charge Beam so its been doing pretty well. Mudbray I got a nature that boosts its attack and its insane, has a great move pool so far (Bulldoze for stab, Double kick and Stomp for type coverage) and I'm really liking a lot of the newer Pokemon which is good because the designs left a lot to be desired (seriously I named my Mudbray Derpette... look at that thing, it has such a derpy face XD) but the actual stats they have as well as move pools and abilities are generally quite good.

The riding system is a fantastic mechanic to replace bikes/hms/item finder that thas plagued the series for far to long although the amount of hand holding and notable blocked off roads is rather annoying. I mean I get why early on you don't want us running around everywhere but by the time you get to the second island why not let the game open up and let you do any of the three challenges in whatever order you wish and just let players explore? Seems like such a missed opportunity to really give the game a much more open feeling.

arghh took me forever to find a pichu on route 1 then my metapod killed it!!! the rage.. it was a girl too :( now im never gonna find it

I keep flip flopping on keeping things on my team or swapping them for Pokemon I've been interested in pre-release haha. Definitely leaves a bit of a level gap in my party for some cases.

I'm trying to find a Barboach, but Serebii is little help right now. It says there are "special spots" where you have a 50% chance of finding them, but I can't find what that means.

What the fuck is with the gender ratio for Popplio? I've spent the last 4 fucking hours resetting the game in attempt to get a female with no luck. :/

So I've been in the leak thread this past week reading impressions, I thought if people are interested here's a summary of the pros and cons of Sun and Moon. I haven't played them myself, but here's some key points that may effect your purchase...

No specific spoilers but still tagging them in case you want to go in fresh...impressions on scope of plot, difficulty, Pokemon, music, graphics, and post-game

Plot: I've heard it has the "best plot" of a Pokemon game perhaps, with some exciting moments and such, yet at the same time this also means more linearity and pushing the player along with cutscenes. The main game is better than XY at the very least. Decent amount of classic cameos, but nothing B2W2-level.

Difficulty: I've heard the game isn't super challenging, the opponents still use less Pokemon than before, yet with the level scale system back from BW it's harder to overlevel compared to XY. At the same time the Totem Battles can be tricky with some interesting combos, the opponents now actively target weaknesses and switch, and many of the New Pokemon are on the slower side so using them means the opponent will get in an attack at least instead of you just sweeping through them.

Pokemon: Not as varied as XY, but a decent amount of classics---the New Pokemon seem to have a "Johto syndrome" where they're a bit pushed to the side in many cases with low encounter rates and such. Also they're all pretty slow, including ones who you think would be fast. Some classic Pokemon got buffs (one got a nerf), including stat upgrades and new Abilities. There's not many non-Alola Dex Pokemon available in the post-game right now, so you'll need to rely on PokeBank if you're going for 100% National Dex. There's no in-game National Dex, presumably being saved for Bank.

Music: Varied and really nice, weakness music is possibly the default battle themes but everything else is good---"best OST since Black and White".

Graphics: Frame rate still takes a dip pretty regularly, and the addition of Trainers lead presumably to the removal of Triple and Rotation as well as Hordes. Otherwise the region looks nice.

Post-game: Neat new system that makes competitive training pretty interesting and fast, though requires some set-up. Multiple Legendary Pokemon to catch and a Battle Facility that's fairly challenging. About XY-level from what I've heard. Downside is very few non-Alola Dex Pokemon to catch and not a lot of new areas that open up. Do get to rematch various major Trainers though such as Trial Captains, and use more than just 2 Pokemon like the Battle Chateau rematches in XY.

Ugh, thanks for this.

I'll buy it used then, no way i'm paying full for that.

Man, ranking up the plaza and getting Festival Coins feels pretty grindy. I'm only getting 10-50 coins every few minutes from them and buying the higher level shops from other people needs a truck load of coins. 3* are 400 and 4* are 800.

Is there a better way to get coins besides repeating the missions?

Hey I got an Everstone from Roggenrola in Seastone Cave. That's neat.

I need a female Growlithe though. If anyone can spare one I'll have Adamant Growlithe eggs ready.

Liking the new animations. Pursuit shows the target backing up before getting hit and Sucker Punch shows the target trying to attack before the hit. Pretty cool.

Just beat the Ghost trial with Primarina, Grimer, Growlithe, Mudsdale, and Lurantis. God, Fomantis was such a pain to train. Can't take a hit at all.

Welcome to Sun & Moon, enjoy your stay. For more F2P garbage, check the PokePelago.

Whats funny is that i got a female rowlet on my forst go and i wasnt even aiming for that, hell i didnt even notice it was female until about an hour after i got it

The one mechanic that annoys the heck out of me is the "such and such called for help" especially if I'm trying to catch said such and such.

Pretty sure the mechanic was in the either Ruby/Sapphire or X and Y or both, but it still drives me crazy.

that feature is new.

The main issue I have with call for help is that it can sometimes go on for 5-6+ from the same pokemon calling for help, you killing the reinforcement, repeat.

I get the underlying sentiment, but having the same one be able to call for help more than 2-3 times is pretty annoying, especially when its a new pokemon you're trying to catch.

Also, you may be thinking of hordes, calling for reinforcements is new to sun/moon.
