How do you chain exactly?

When a Pokemon calls for help, and you keep KOing one at a time, eventually they gain the perks you'd have previously seen from Dexnav and Friend Safari where certain IVs are guaranteed max, more hold items, and hidden abilities.

Does breeding still gives you an offspring based off the female? Got a male Mimikyu that I wanna breed when I backtrack.

Female still determines species. I don't think breeding's had any changes since ORAS.

I'm still very early in the game,
route 1
, but does anything ever show up on the bottom DS screen or does it always stay blank until you hit X?

Copying from a few pages back.. thank you in advance for any info.

Pikachu gets ready to do its big Breakneck Blitz!
...but I forgot Sandygast is Ghost.
No more Z-Moves for the rest of the match!
When I got the Pikachu Z crystal the first Pokémon I encountered was Chinchou. It did the dance animation and I thought "HERE WE GO".

Turns out Chinchou has Volt Absorb.

I foolishly decided to read up on Nature, trying to get a better handle on the mechanics and see what works well for starters. A day later and I still find myself mindlessly replaying the same 5 minutes of exposition, hoping for that 1/25 dice roll to come up as Adamant. Someone please snap me out of this madness so I can move on (or confirm if I should stick with it for the long term benefits).

It'll probably have shitty IVs and shitty EVs from battling all the random Pokemon.

So is 3D gone completely?

Yup. After the rumors about Stars came out it began to make sense.

Yeah, in spite of my last posts about natures this is really something you shouldn't be concerned with until postgame. As long as it's not an absolute hindrance, it's good enough to get you through the story. You have many more tools to help you get the perfect team afterwards.

It's still kinda a shame though, I know it had a lot of frame rate issues but for some battles it was a really nice effect. :/

Also I think the 3DS display just looks better when it's in 3D mode due to the way the pixels are laid out. Things look so much sharper in 3D.

Hey guys i'll probably get a New 3DS XL + Pokemon next friday, i've seen people talking about "good and bad" screen quality depending of the version of the console. Is that something i should worry about ?

The moment I was informed by PokeGAF that Pokemon Sun/Moon does not have HMs in the game at all, I immediately eradicated any pursuit for a flying type Pokemon, fuck outta here.

Bout to get this 6 member party on that wider type diversity brehs

Magnemite and that Alola Grimer come fuck wit' me

When does the SOS chaining stuff start in the game? I started it last night and got to the point where you're given EXP share.

Even the
Wishiwashi
totem battle was anticlimactic for me. Poisoned with Grimer and then wore down with the rest. My team was half fainted from the slog there too, lol. Game is surprisingly easy so far.
There's Gastly with Mean Look not too far out.

That'll work. Cheers!

I just learned that Litten is Flamiau in French. That's way better. Flame-meow! C'mon, NOA.

I got foreign pairs for Litten, Poplio, and Rowlet. I'm set for egg farming.

Grimer is crazy good in game.

I could be mistaken but I think any battle has a chance of starting a chain, right from the beginning of the game. Using an adrenaline orb will force it.

How do you chain exactly?
Use the adrenaline orb on the enemy (you can buy these in pokemarts after some point in the game), get it down to low health and it should call for help very frequently. If you need to stall out turns where an enemy does not show up again use the adrenaline orb again or an antidote on a pokemon that isn't poisoned. They won't consume the item and essentially skip your turn.

As the low health enemy starts to run low on PP (you'll have to pay attention here) knock it out and the lower the HP on the help that arrived.

Note some species actually call evolutions or even completely different lines. Some of these different lines are dead ends if they're the only one left standing (as in they can't call for help e.g.
Chansey
).

There are berries to restore PP if you're worried about long battles. Still it is probably best to only do chaining when you have something of a very high level.

Evolved my Abra into a Kadabra and... it didn't learn confusion. Well, this thing is useless.
A lot of people have been getting that problem. It is odd as I think the level up tables now have moves that are always taught upon evolution and you would think confusion would be that move (doesn't seem to be) and and also it a level up move for level 16 (which is when it evolves) so it should be trying to teach it.

I think you can find the TM
grass knot
on the second island and before the third island you can get the
psychic
TM

Yes it does so you'll have to breed with a Ditto.

The only inheritance thing that has changed is fathers can pass down pokeballs when bred with ditto or a female of the same species (in the case of the latter it is 50% chance). This allows some previously impossible ball and ability combos (which there more of thanks to getting a handful of the Apricorn balls) and genderless or male only Pokemon to actually pass balls down now.

So is 3D gone completely?
It is still in the photo finder section for some reason.

After 10 hours I just reached the second island. To be honest, I'm getting a bit tired of all the hand-holding. It feels as if the game is on-rails. Older games always used to have closed paths too, but it never felt as artificial or arbitrary as this (and yes, I do remember XY's "the light is out so you can't visit half of Lumiose City" silly excuse, but it never bothered me this much). The very fact that I'm thinking about it is worrying. I am being guided through a very linear path and the game doesn't even try to hide it, and this is coming from someone who doesn't have anything against linear games (I loved Final Fantasy XIII and Remember Me).

Another thing are the constant cutscenes. I enjoyed the story bits in XY, but here it seems every 5 minutes the game wants to take control away from me. I arrive at the second island, there's a cutscene. I move 10 steps on to the clothes store, another cutscene. I try to go to the right, the road is blocked. I go up, there's yet another cutscene. C'mon, let me play already!

I don't know, I'm liking the game anyway, but so far I'd say I had a lot more fun in Y. Can't remember ever being so annoyed in that one.

So my Snorlax OHKO the first Totem Pokémon. He didn't have the chance to call for back up. It was very anti clamatic.
Same happened to me, only with Brionne instead. I won't complain as I'm playing with Exp. Share on and Shift battle style, but it felt anticlimactic indeed. I played the same way in gen 6 and no important fight was ever this easy (except maybe for the Elite 4 in Y where I was obscenely overleveled). Oh well, I don't play Pokemon for the challenge anyway, so this doesn't really bother me.

So far I'm loving everything about this game except for the lack of new Pokemon. Since I try to stick to using new guys it feels like I have barely any options and each new area turns into me having to comb through a bunch of old stuff to find the one new Pokemon with a low encounter rate on each route.

I really hope next time they manage to put out a dex with a decent size again.

Someone screwed up and Evolution Moves are checked first but it never calls the check for Level Up moves afterwards (maybe a miscommunication and each team thought the other would happen first ?). Kadabra's Evolution move is Kinesis, which then doesn't check for the Level 16 move (Confusion) afterwards.

I can see how this was missed in testing, there's actually very few Pokemon that have "new" moves at their evolution level that aren't their evolution move (most level up moves are learned earlier by the unevolved form) but Kadabra really bites it as a result.

I laughed that the haircut parlor mentions apparently Cut has been reduced to being used by barbers now.

Still wish they could've buffed Cut since it's a TM and gave it to some Pokemon---the Japanese name references the quick cut Japanese sword technique, so maybe making it a priority move would've been neat. Give it to like Farfetch'd, Scyther, Oshawott, and Bisharp.

What's the point of the Move Deleter now that HMs are gone?

And Kadabra finally getting Kinesis that way is funny since iirc it was in his moveset in RB but no legitimate way to get it as he got it at a level prior to evolving from Abra, and with no Move Reminder.

While I can see it being an issue early on, I haven't had an issue using a team comprised of new Pokemon. I'm also counting Alola forms in this though, so maybe that offsets it for me.

There's not much reason for him, outside of setting up a Last Resort set or something.

Kinesis was actually available in Yellow, if you caught a Kadabra on Route 8. It's been a tutorable move from the relearner since.
