Controls and gunplay. The first had essentially the best controls ever in an open world game, it was basically a Max Payne 3 sandbox. I get that 2 has hacking as the main focus but they could have just kept the movement and shooting mechanics of the first. The combat in this is just nowhere near as fun as it was in WD1 and the constant calling for backup gets tiresome. Zero improvements to the driving is another pretty big flaw, but that was the same in the first game.
I find the driving way better. Some cars aren't good but I chalk that up to variety. I guess I'm
Playing the same way as last time and the controls feel the same.

Just used a motorcycle to jump across a ramp that I think was meant for the jumper to nab one of the key datas. This game is alright.

I do like that they make you work for those.
Some puzzles have frustrated me for a while but it is pretty rewarding to solve them and find the ways to do it.

I've had to pop a few people too :(

I'm super selective with who I kill, I'm doing as non lethal as I can. I have no problem calling in gang hits though....wasn't me :p

Oh whoops no I mean just plain old accidents. Like I called the cops on a dude guarding an alley I needed to get into, thinking they'd just arrest him and haul his ass off. Nope, cops show up, firefight ensues, the guy gets his buddies to back him up and the cops died. And one time a dog accidentally got too close when I blew up an object. Feels bad :(

I haven't even fired a gun yet. Tazed one guy, but that's it.

Every red zone area I case the whole area out first. Use the drone for a good aerial view then the rc car for any other entry points. Total stealth. Each area is a puzzle. Loving it.

I bought the game based solely off Jeff's impressions on giant bomb. He used the word "fun" enough times to convince me.

Any news on the multiplayer yet? The online portion is still down for me, and i'd like to play through the game with all the features enabled... not being able to invade someone between missions it's starting to annoy me.

Hopefully seamless comes on soon :(

I like it. Honestly my biggest complaint is that the story seems very 'mission oriented.' By that, I mean there doesn't seem to be a focus on one overarching point- it's just 'hurt Blume' and a million different ways to make that happen. Aiden had one goal and covered some very serious topics . This story almost seems like it's pandering to the 'hey look a kid who can hack things and hates the system just like you' folks.

Still loving the game, don't get me wrong. But I dunno, it seems like the story is missing some oomph so far. I'm pretty far in, too.

Also... doesn't have bridges I can control. I know SF doesn't have that but... damn.

I need online on very soon cause I feel it's ruining my experience. I am not liking this game anywhere close to the first game. Part of what made WD1 so special is how out of the box the content in that game was. The hacking gameplay was fresh and was built into most every aspect of the game.

The online integration was so exciting and interesting. In between quests I could be invaded or do side quests that involved the combat and the use of hacks like Taking down enemy hideouts or taking down convoys. I was in awe at the crazy things you could do like AR games and was blown away by every digital trip I would find. It's been a long time since a GTA like game had such wide variety of gameplay mini games.

Now here is WD2 and all the side quests that involved divergent unique gameplay is gone. Most of these side quests are crap go to X location do one stupid action like hack one object and that's it. I feel like I am just chasing icons on a map. There are so fewer sections where there are bases to infiltrate. I don't even get into car chases any more, I maybe have been in three in like 10 hours. The first game had a city that felt dangerous, I feel bored in this one.

As much as the new hacking skills are fun to mess with I don't know if it's helping the game much. There was this puzzle like nature to the first game where you had to use the cameras to scout and then systematically take down guards using their grenades and the placement of explodable objects in their scout paths. If you are good you could almost take down every guard with out stepping foot in the base.

With WD2 things are a lot more open but I don't feel it has that puzzle element anymore. It's more like just create random chaos, slip in, taze a few guards and get out. There are so few guards carrying explosive items. I feel the explodable stuff in the environment is not placed well. The new skills makes things easier in a way. Just call some police or rival gangs and that's it, you created a distraction. The drone makes the camera mostly obsolete which is one of my favorite things about the first game.

Then there is the combat which is a clear step back and doesn't feel right. the slow motion skill made Aiden feel like badass, it made combat a viable alternative. Here I feel combat is messy and just a way to get out of situations where you needed up in stealth.

I do think the city is very well designed. I am enjoying hunting for keys and skills, even if way too many repeat the same way to reach them (use a crane or forklift to get up). Outdoor hacking is neat but I rather have QR puzzles which were true perspective puzzles. Hacking in general isn't that much different than the hacking from the first game, most of the time you just use a drone to get the full view of the hacks.

This seems like a clear step back for me, the first game is just much more enjoyable so far.

I really love the atmosphere, whereas GTA parodies america, this parodies silicon valley and the tech scene, love it.
It may or may not be goty but it is one of the best games of 2016.

Man doing the
hack the world mission was out there, but so much fun.
3 missions now opened up, think I'm getting closer to the end of the main story. I recorded some gameplay from another mission but I keep getting upload errors. I disconnected my yt account and linked it back, but didn't help. Don't know what I can do. Maybe it's because of the pro switch, dunno.

Once you get more tools, like dropping shock nades with your drone, you can play around with the guards even more. I love this game so much, what a surprise this has been. The video I wanted to upload was just me infiltrating a building, playing around with guards and making a clean escape. It feels great when you can escape on your first try. I haven't fired a gun in the game since the early hours.

I mean... there are people on this very page, and the last one, saying the exact opposite of what you're saying here.

I don't have the game yet, though - just chiming in based on what I'm reading. Sometimes it's really hard to understand differences in perspectives like this.

I've been getting a ton of upload errors trying put some of my clips up, but I wasn't sure if it was my connection, PSN, Youtube, or the game. This has never happened to me before.

I don't know if I should Laugh or feel sorry. I called the cops on a stripper that was pole dancing. I thought that they would just arrest her but know they came in and shot her while she was swinging on the pole.

I'm clearly in the minority but also I was in the minority in thinking the first game is one of the best GTA clones of all time.

But the side quests are mostly trash, I don't know how people could argue that. It's a bunch of go here, do one thing, go there do one thing. One quest is hack atms, so you just go to markers on a map, press one button then watch a funny cutscenes. One quest is just paint billboards around the city and while getting to them could be a puzzle it mostly just involves using cranes. One quest was just go to different pay phones and press a button, at least that one ended at a small base to infiltrate. One quest was to hack a teenage girls laptop, then you watch a cutscene. It's the worst kind of icon chasing that fills open world games.

if things get hectic or there are just too many or its a situation where the above wont work then I call in a gang hit. When there are a few or no enemies left I'll sent in Marcus to get the objective. It takes a hell of a lot of patience and time but I found it to be an enjoyable way to play them game.

I had my gang hit up all the way and they rarely, if ever, actually worked in any of the story missions in the back end of the game. 99% of the time the gang bursts in, gets the guards riled up/calling for reinforcements and promptly die in a hail of weapons fire leaving more bad guys walking around.

Eliminate everyone that can call reinforcements first, then send in a gang but it seems in certain situations they won't come. Like on Alcatraz, if the guards were on the roof they'd just cancel. You can also stun the guard using their phone when they're being shot so they can't defend themselves.

The thing about gangs is they often have more of a chance to kill multiple guards than the police as most of the time the police will just arrest and be on their way which takes a shitload of time. I would know because I arrested every guard in a building so I would have no issue escaping on the last mission.

Also... doesn't have bridges I can control. I know SF doesn't have that but... damn.

San Francisco has a few drawbridges actually, though they are all pretty small bridges. One obvious one is the Lefty O'Doul bridge, near the ball park.

Err, real SF that is. Missed opportunity in the game.

Apparently missions are like a one-life job. Die at any point in a mission and you're kicked back to the start.

Funny, Dishonored 2's system has actually saved my ass a few times. Do you live in opposite world?

The checkpointing doesn't always make you start missions completely from scratch but it will generally only checkpoint after current objectives are totally completed. Got to blow up 4 McGuffins and hack a doohicky? well you best hit all four perfectly and hack that doohickie or its a restart. If you get both done the objectives at the top left of the screen update and that usually means a checkpoint had been reached, I say usually because 99% of the time that is what happens but I feel like there was one or two occasions where it put me back further than that.

I felt like in later missions the majority of the guards had the call reinforcements feature, I didn't use the police at all, I didn't bother upgrading that path, sounds like it would have made my life slightly easier.

If you call the cops and then bait one of the guards into shooting your flying drone the cops will open fire. If you time it right and recharge your bot net points you can have 3 pairs of the powered up cops on the scene at once.

Also anyone know how to get the throwable stun grenades? I unlocked the skill but I don't have any.

I mean, it's really not ultra useful or anything but it is nice to have the option to permanently remove an enemy from the area, if you're lucky they can get into shootouts with guards though.

Equip them on your weapon wheel and press right bumper.

as of an hour ago...no.

I wish they would be more open on a time frame to get this fixed...

Chances are they don't know. Estimating is a tricky deal too. You give too short of a date, you anger people if you can't make it. You give too conservative an estimate it drives people away because it sounds too long.

Okay now that it's been a few days since I've finished the game and I've had time to think things over and really digest everything I think now is a good time to post my impressions.
I'm going to start off by saying unless FFXV changes something, this is my GOTY and one of my all time favorite games.

So personally, I don't and have never really cared for Grand Theft Auto or any similar game. I always felt they were too silly and that running around fucking with people, blowing stuff up and running over people is entertaining for about all of five minutes and I've never once been interested in the story or any of it's gameplay so I don't have any point of reference for any other similar games.

I also never cared for the original Watch_Dogs game, I didn't play it as I could never muster any sort of interest for it, every complaint people had with the game outside of the graphical downgrade seemed pretty apparent from all the prerelease material that I had seen and I could never understand why people were so excited for the game, it looked bland, boring and generic in every way.

Enter the Watch_Dogs 2 reveal and I felt the opposite about everything that was shown. I was instantly interested in Dedsec and the characters being presented, from their design and interests to the artwork that was Dedsec's image and the fact that it had an urban black protagonist, the bright vibrant world and the addition of the RC Jumper and the quadcoptor and I was captivated. The gameplay actually looked fun as did the story, none of it seemed aimless and it all seemed like an enjoyable experience that pretty much catered to all my interests and I was correct.

Starting with Marcus, I think it was incredibly cool of them to have a black character as the protagonist, and not just some stereotypical black character. Someone who's a geek, incredibly likable, funny, sarcastic, kind of a dick (In a non malicious way) and just the kind of person you'd want to spend time with. He feels real (As do most of the main characters), he's not one note and his range of emotions are shown throughout the story I also like the fact that he comments on what its like to be a young black guy in north america and I find that relateable. A lot of the things he says about what its like are entirely true and the fact that this game is so self aware is one of its many strengths. They did an amazing job with him and I really really hope he isn't left behind for the sequel.

As for the other characters of Dedsec, I also thought they were really well done, although none of them really get too much time to shine outside of Ray, Wrench and Marcus I enjoyed spending time with all of them and their contrasting personalities. I loved their interactions between each other, the friendship felt between the gang is probably the strongest thing about the writing and story, they all feel like close friends, they shit talk each other and make jokes but they also have their emotional moments and show different sides of their personality. There are conflicts of interest and tension but nothing ever feels poorly written or silly unless its meant to be and this is something I really appreciated. Wrench was the biggest surprise and he's not what most people expect him to be. I also really enjoyed Ray's addition to the team and thought he was a good contrast between Dedsec's youthful and silly energy by being a bit of a mentor with interests of his own and he's another character that works especially well with Marcus and the gang and I think it was a great idea to include him.

As for Dedsec as a whole (Its ideals, imagery) I love it, it's heavily inspired by Mr.Robot and Anonymous and I'm glad that the team took the time to research the culture behind hacking and hacking groups both fictional and realistic as it adds a lot to the game for the person that actually takes interest in those things (like myself). I love the cheesy horror imagery mixed with neon colors and the unique artstyle they chose for Dedec. "Cheesy and Tumblr-ish" sure, but personally I love it, kind of like Misfits meets technology.

Story wise I think it was great,I enjoyed all the missions and side missions, thought they were well written and I enjoyed their choices of subject matter. Gameplay wise some of them could have been a bit more creative but I enjoyed the journey from New Dawn to
hacking into satellites and blowing up Blume's servers,
, missions like the Thruss mission and honestly I don't think I ever disliked any of them. I liked that Dedsec expanded their influence the further you got in the game and I also liked that you had to deal with another hacker group that was fairly different from Dedsec. I'd say my favorite mission (Designed by a fellow gaffer!) is the
Spider Robot
mission, it is one of the coolest and one of my all time favorite moments in gaming, the way that thing controls to the music choice and the story reveal of what they were planning to do with what you find down there, just everything about that level.
I don't get the complaints that the ending was anticlimactic, the last mission and Hack TeH World I thought were also stellar. I loved the idea of
Playing as different characters
and as someone who played the entire game full stealth, getting to play
as Wrench
with the grenade launcher was just absolute stupid amounts of fun. Another one of the games strengths I feel is it's commentary on real world events and how we use technology through the use of satire. It's not really something that's been done in gaming and I think it works exceptionally well here.

Gameplay I thought was good, it's not perfect but outside of the driving I never felt it was poor. I like all the options you're given non lethally (Despite some people that insist otherwise) and I think they're good, but there is room for improvement in the variety of what you can or should be able to do with each section of your nonlethal arsenal. I've only played through the game once so far, full stealth and I especially liked the fact that quite often I could sit outside the restricted area and send in the drones to do all my work for me rather than put myself in danger. But I also like the fact that I'm given options, if I want to go in guns blazing I can, if I want to do it full melee I can, if i want to use drones only I can, if I want to use hacking only I can and I feel the number of options you have available should only be expanded on in a sequel not reduced for replay value but for gameplay variety.

I think the developers did an amazing job on this game and outside of the awful driving, I enjoyed every minute of it. But that's not to say its without its flaws and these are things I'd like to see in the sequel:

-More side missions and side missions that expand on the main story, I didn't feel like these were lacking in quality but maybe a missed opportunity as I feel there should be plenty more and like another poster said earlier in the thread, often characters outside of the main team would kind of appear and dissapear with little backstory, information or context. I think side stories would be a perfect opportunity to give us context on characters in the story like Lenni and Thruss that didn't get much screen time. We're a hacker group, we should be able to break into their systems and learn more about them and interact with them more rather than just have them be one and done.

-For the love of god please improve driving, especially if we're going to have forced driving sections like the first mission.

-Expand on the gameplay options we have available. Again I didn't think any of the non lethal stuff was poor but I'd like to see a variety of melee weapons, maybe more attachments and more meaningful mods to your drones rather than a better spring and a speed boost. Along with more skills, expand on what you can do with other peoples technology, maybe add in laptops, smart watches, etc rather than just cellphones.

-Watch_Dogs 3 should be a direct sequel to 2 imo. I think Ubi really hit their stride here with Dedsec, these characters, this setting and there's still plenty more to do and explore with social commentary on North America, technology and what it's like being a black person in some of these environments especially with a Trump Victory. Like someone else said, I feel like Watch_Dogs 2 is the real start of the series as Titanfall 2 is to 1.

-cats

But overall I give this game a 9.5 out of 10 and I cant wait to jump back in with the story DLC

Finished just now. Improvement over the first game in most ways. There are no memorable car chases and the gunplay just felt so unbalanced.

I liked the characters, and story overall. The ending is anticlimactic, but the lead up to it was great.

Can't believe they never got infiltration up and running. I'm gonna return this to gamefly without having done any online.

Edit: loved the scoutX app. Really gets you to explore the environment.

So I just got
T-Dog on my crew
? Would you say I'm about halfway done?

Was a nice scene before that, and I'm still enjoying the characters.

But they took those little narrative voyeur scenes from WD1 and made them the star of the show haven't they? Feel like I've just been climbing to the highest point and hacking the box to get the little scene and then you repeat the process at the next way-point.

Kind of missing the gang hideouts and convoy stuff from WD1.

I just got to *that* part of the game, so I think I'm near the end. In particular, I'm referring to (big spoilery moment, don't click if you're unsure):
hacking from orbit and then hijacking servers from across the globe, down to Blume's big database room.
My mouth was agape the entire time. I have a lot of strong opinions on the game thus far, mostly positive, but for now I just wanted to gas on about how awesome that moment was.

Limp nuddle was a fun mission in particular cause of the familiar feeling it gave me as well as the music that wound up playing and that I keep Marcus in a nuudle shirt.

I'm a couple of hours into the game now, and I'm pleasantly surprised by how much I like it so far. But because it's me, and because I am awful at most games, this is me popping into yet another OT to ask questions about how to play the game properly because I am an idiot. Apologies in advance.

Most missions follow the same basic template: get to restricted area, get in past the guards, hack a bunch of things, escape. The last mission I attempted was trying to break into the
New Dawn re-education center
, and I think this mission broke me. I can't get through the mission without dying, and I can't seem to use my drones effectively either. This is a pretty common issue of mine; for whatever reason, I have all these tools and yet I am awful at using them properly.

Here's what I've tried so far: I've been using the electro-shock devices as throwable lures, and then shocking guards when I think they're out of sight of everyone else. Inevitably, however, I will eventually screw this up, and as soon as an unconscious guard gets spotted, the mission is over; one of those guards will eventually shoot me in the head before I can get my stun gun trained on them. Also, at least twice now, guards have woken up and killed me, making the non-lethal approach even trickier--now there's a ticking clock as well. Because this has been such a common occurrence, I've been trying to rely on drones for infiltration. The problem is two-fold; the aerial drone basically can't do very much beyond remote hacks of certain things, and the ground drone can at least hack stuff but gets spotted really easily and puts all the guards on alert, thus making the mission nearly impossible to complete.

I feel like I'm missing something here. Do I have to resign myself to just killing everyone? Is there something I'm missing with using drones, like a secret "incapacitate guard" command? How do I get line of sight onto various secret key hacks if none of the cameras face it or are close enough? Help?

Yup I've started ditching the light sports cars and going for heavier vehicles, sedans, SUVs, etc. They feel muuuuch better, especially around hard corners

I feel like I'm missing something here. Do I have to resign myself to just killing everyone? Is there something I'm missing with using drones, like a secret "incapacitate guard" command? How do I get line of sight onto various secret key hacks if none of the cameras face it or are close enough? Help?

the way I do this mission is head towards the front door and hide to the right. use the drone, fly over and steal the key from the guy in the guard house thing. take out the two guys near the front door, run in and up the stairs to hit the switch. use a drone for the next puzzle while staying upstairs.

I always default to motorbikes in open world games. Physics seem fine to me, but I'm rarely driving enough to tell.

Also you can fast travel everywhere so actually driving is rarely necessary.

Yup I've started ditching the light sports cars and going for heavier vehicles, sedans, SUVs, etc. They feel muuuuch better, especially around hard corners
I just bought the Porsche-looking performance car from one of the car dealerships and it's now my favourite car. It has decent weight and traction. It's also really great at handbrake powerslides -- so much that you can easily pull off 360 spins if you do a 180 and then slide the other 180 while using the reverse gear while still sliding forward. Here's a video I recorded tonight while I was messing around.

As much as I think the driving physics garbage I find the bikes basically spot on so really it's a non-issue outside of a few instances in the missions where you have to drive a car.

Thanks! I just blew all my cash on a stun launcher but I'll be looking at that car next

Christ. Im 17 hours in already.

But I feel this is the first open world game where I'm feeling compelled to do the side wuests. No other game has accomplished that yet.

Same. Not sure what it is but everything in this game feels compelling

I usually play through only the main story in these type of games and then wrap it up but I'm finding all the extra stuff fascinating

It's such a joy to throw on music and just screw around the city. And I really like all of the characters too, god I hope we get a direct sequel
