So basically uncharted came out to early in the year to remember how great it is for some people. Ok.

Overwatch came out like two weeks after uncharted, lol.

Uncharted 4 is amazing. That's reflected in its reviews and sales and people outside of the GAF bubble loving it.

I didn't even realize GAF had a problem with it? It was fucking brilliant. Standards here have been getting ridiculous to the point that nothing is ever good enough anymore.

Give it enough time and gaf will have a problem with everything at some point. It's how it goes

That's how gaf is. When a game first comes out like Uncharted it's the goat. Six months later and it's trash. Then give it a year or two and it will be goat again.

Why can't people here dislike something without it being "just another GAF thing"? What if they legitimately don't think UC4 should win the award, do their opinions just not count or something?

Overwatch will get a lot of Multiplayer of the Year awards this year which will (strangely) rule it out of the GOTY award because a lot of these publications like to spread the awards out and it's just easier for them to do it that way.

I think Overwatch deserves a lot of attention this season, but I agree that the typical GOTY cycle is stacked against games that require time for mastery. Overwatch is great, but it needs to be so frequently revisited and interacted with to really appreciate. Which works great for audiences, less so for critics. There's a reason why entire sites and fan press evolve around specific games - nobody else is going to take the time, and dive in at such an obsessive level.

*Shrug* I guess I don't see what makes Overwatch a GOTY contender. I mean, it's a solid game to play but I don't necessarily see what's so revolutionary about it. Plus the microtransactions and unlock system in the game are legitimately disgusting.

can't stand overwatch. found the gameplay boring. for me i'm torn between U4 and dishonored 2...but given the bugs i've witnessed in dishonored i think U4 has been the best thing I've played this year.

last guardian still has a chance to take the crown though.

Overwatch for goty would be the biggest joke in 2016. It's truly an average game in my opinion and I certainly don't consider it to be in the top 3 games released this year.

Oh and btw, there should be a bias towards single player games with a multiplayer component. As we've seen, it's a lot harder to deliver a good single player experience than it is to deliver a good multiplayer experience. It takes a lot more time and I'd argue more craftsmanship as well. It is even harder to deliver a good single player experience and multiplayer experience in the same package and there should be an even bigger bias towards complete packages. Multiplayer only games last as long as the servers are active but single player games last pretty much forever. You can go back and play old NES and n64 single player games. You can't even go back and play some multiplayer games on the ps360.

That's nice but it really is the killer game this and next coming years. See the playerbase too.

Overwatch and Doom deserve it this year. Uncharted 4 was really disappointing.

Not saying anything about Uncharted 4 since I was unable to even finish the game but since when should anyone trust or rely on reviews? These writers barely scratch the surface, especially when the game has a robust online mode.

I think we're all forgetting Dark Souls 3 came out this year.

Oversaturation has really hurt the franchise's chance at awards. DS3 is an amazing game with some of the best fights in the series yet it will get overlooked since we've been getting a Souls game ever year and they're not very accessible to newcomers.

Uncharted 4 is a great game, don't get me wrong, and the Madagascar level is one of my favorites in any game but the pacing did a number on the game and killed any replay value for me. I'm also not too crazy about the ending.

While I haven't played Overwatch or Doom yet, if they provide the genuine fun that is expressed in the GAF impressions I've seen, that should always beat an "experience"

I mean, Overwatch has everybody by the balls, DOOM has the best meat n' potatoes shooter campaign in forever. Titanfall 2 has the best linear setpiece-driven shooter campaign in forever (and very good multiplayer), INSIDE is a perfect piece of video game software, the new entries for Hitman, Gears, and Dark Souls are all solid as hell, and you have other stuff like The Witness. Even Street Fighter V, for all its shortcomings, is doing very well within its niche.

Year's been pretty good I think.

Overwatch is incredible, it feels really fresh and as someone who's been playing it almost since launch it still feels fresh.

Uncharted 4, while a good game in it's own right just felt like another Uncharted to me and felt like a step back for ND after the wonderful Last of Us.

I like Doom, but I've found the campaign quite repetitive.

UC4 really did nothing groundbreaking that deserves recognition, but on the other hand, Overwatch is also an incredibly overrated casual shooter with a gross anti-consumer lottery system and no single player. A game shouldn't be judged based on its cosplay and fan art community.

Yeah this year has been amazing for fighting games and JRPGs too. This is the best year in a long time and blows last year out of the water easily.

I wouldn't say Quantum Break was GOTY material but it deserved a nomination for something. Best performance, best narrative, something.

You've got all these hollywood actors doing what's essentially a TV show, most putting in good performances and you don't even get a nomination for best performance. Lance Riddick, Shawn Ashmore, guy who played Liam Burke were all good.

As I said the page before I don't put much stock in TGA, too many good games get overlooked tbh. I appreciate Geoff's hard work though.

Who's having a meltdown? People are just expressing their opinions, and some of those opinions are that UC4 doesn't deserve a GOTY nomination.

Uncharted shouldn't even be a nomination. Uncharted 2? Sure. But 4 is not an amazing game.

If Uncharted 4 manages to be worse than 2 I don't even want to know how bad this game is.

People think UC4 will win, really? It was mediocre at best... really boring at worst.

Doom would be a fair choice. Best single player FPS campaign in a long, long time. Amazing gameplay, long campaign and amazing weapons. OW would be okay as well!
