Digital Foundry: Final Fantasy 15 PS4 vs PS4 Pro Gameplay Frame-Rate Test

And how this scene looks on xbox one?
No idea yet. Took me a while to get there in the first place.

It will look as you'd expect, I can imagine - blurrier due to the extreme TAA and lower resolution.

I took that shot in "high" mode, though. It still looks good in lite, of course.

What's remarkable is that the game is able to transition directly from the massive open plains to this city without any extra loading screens. You literally drive from the Duscae plains right into the city. It feels amazing. The atmosphere in this game is fantastic.

Is the size of town considerable for exploration?

One question dark10x, have you tried contact S-E about this?
I don't know if they are more receptive to give answers to the media.

Man, this is one beautiful game.

This first town isn't especially massive, I suppose, but it FEELS huge and you can go just about everywhere possible. It feels like a very dense small town. It works super well.

Getting so sick of seeing these frame pacing issues.

I get it. Games are hard. But the games made by the best in the biz have these issues and its nonsense.

I hope its fixed bc this looks like a no buy to me right now.

The community managers on the official twitter and facebook relays a lot of feedback to Business Division 2. The JP twitter account guys actually work in the same building and office as the dev team. I've already tweeted them about the DF vid from a couple of accounts but if more people bring up the issue I'm pretty sure BD2 will make it a high priority to fix.

Hello I stopped playing FFXV, anyone know when in December will the new 1080p 60 fps patch will be released?

I'm gonna guess end of December.

Well based on your answer it is a considerable size, i wasnt expecting huge, just have a size that feels like a small town, with streets and stuff to see.

Playing with high resolution on Pro. Game lo0oks so pretty compared to the previous demos. Barely even notice frame pacing, then again I barely even noticed on BB so lucky me XD

It has that in spades. It feels remarkably immersive and not "faked" in that way that you normally see in JRPGs. It has a serious sense of scale and the design reminds me of what Square was trying to convey in older CGI movies. Really impressive stuff.

No one knows, they just said Dec would have a further patch towards optimization and Pro mode stuff. I could be wrong but people should remember they never said 1080p/60fps in the way people tend to say it (as in locked) and said they'd be targeting 60fps. Someone in another XV thread was talking about the "promised 60fps mode" and its like >_> <_<....

If they do get some 60fps version I'll happily call Tabata's team a league of wizards.

Frame pacing issues are terrible when they occur, the game in certain areas feels like it's running much lower than 30fps even though technically it might not be but the frame pacing issues certainly makes it feel like that. I just entered Lestallum Outpost during chapter 3 and along with those issues I'm getting some serious drops in framerate all of a sudden.

I thought performance on Xbox was bad in that area but this is on another level.

Base PS4

Reset my PS4 and it's running better although I'm still getting frame drops, just not as bad as earlier.
Well well well...

I can drop my save over onto the base PS4 for testing there but now I need to play all the way to that point on Xbox One, I guess.

The Pro handles that city perfectly in Lite mode, thankfully.

Hm, I just tested Remote Play @1080p on my Pro and with the High mode selected, I have no frame pacing issues, at all.

Quite interesting.

The amount of frame pacing in HQ mode on PS4 Pro is absolutely ridiculous...

Amazed that certain people are not noticing this. For me, its basically unplayable it feels like a 20 fps game if not worse.

Lite mode is buttery smooth though.

I am happy that HQ mode is so horrendous atm, because SE simply cannot leave this shit with no fix. If it was Bloodborne levels framepacing, they could ignore it maybe. This however? No way...

The game is pretty choppy on HQ mode. I've been switching back and forth and might end up on LQ mode, which is sad considering the bullshot Pro footage they used during the Pro reveal.

Any chance a fix is coming in the December patch? I really want to see SE aware of this problem. But it was present in the demo's, and its still here, so maybe it won't be fixed.

I've noticed framepacing issues before, but the High mode here is the first time it's actively bothered me. Hope it's addressed with the patch. Happy with Lite, though.

And its not just Pro that has these issues. Its pretty apparent in spots, light mode it is not.

Is this the future of PS4 gaming? Worse preforming games unless you have a Pro?

Yeah. The frame pacing is bad. As bad or worse than Bloodborne. Hoping for a fix cuz I'm sensitive to that shit and it becomes tiresome after a while. Lite mode runs nicely though so it'll do for now. Hopefully a fix is coming because HQ sure is gorgeous.

I think the most telling part of the DF article is that the problem seems to have been present in a number of the earlier preview/demo builds on PS4 and not on the Xbox One versions. This seems to pre-date the Pro release window so I personally think it's not the case that OG PS4 performance will always be sub-par but just a difficulty with Square being able to take remedial action.

You can't notice any stuttering on HQ? You're either blind or lying.
Some people really don't notice framepacing issues, I didn't notice anything at all while completing bloodborne multiple times. I am very sensitive to screen tearing and sub 20fps frame rates.

Nice. Let's keep bugging them and get the message relayed. Time for me to sogn up for Twitter. ;)

Hmm. What do you make of this Dark10? Is Remote Play doing some sort of forced vsync that corrects these issues?

I'm neither and I can't notice it - I didn't notice it in Bloodborne either. :)

No intention of calling you a liar here, but can you do a simple test for me, just out of curiocity.

When in game, pan the camera slowly a full 360 degrees around the character without moving.

Can you or cant you notice the jerkiness of the screen?

Just played a good 3 hours of this game and I can say that the frame pacing is a complete non issue for me. In fact,I'd say that I'm surprised that the Frame rate is so consistent.

Same for me and I'm playing on standard base ps4, gaf and their hyperbole, making minor stuff bigger than they actually are

I'll give it a go. I've clocked in just a little over 8 hours as it stands without issue, so I'm under the impression it really just isn't a problem for me. Not that it shouldn't be fixed or anything, I'm just speaking for myself. I completed Bloodborne twice, amongst the same Gaf warnings and disbelief, and it was the same case there.

EDIT - Just to emphasise, because I know some people are on edge here, I acknowledge it's objectively an issue, and I really do hope it gets fixed.

Kind of hyperbole here. If I sat there and looked at every single environment and encounter and slowed down my camera panning, would I notice it? Probably. If I stopped playing the game and looked at its technical capabilities under a miroscrope would I notice it? Probably.

When I'm playing the game is it an issue? No, because I'm playing the game and it is fluid enough where it's above some magical personal threshold where I don't notice stuttering. I haven't noticed it running around. And I did in fact do what the user above suggested and pan 360 when I was auto-driving around last night just to check out the environment and my car decals. Didn't see any stuttering.

Sorry to all the people that have problems with this, I'm sure it is real. But I think adding my opinion is absolutely important because a thread full of doom and gloom for the technically savvy/sensitive might not really apply to the general populace. It isn't some abhorrent mess like a Bethesda PS3 game.

Your opinion is fine and all but expect some blowblack when you essentially go into a thread about the subject and post a 'haha doesn't bother me!' message in front of a whole lot of people it does apparently bother, deeply. Take that to the extreme and consider, would you post the same flippant reply in a topic where people were being affected by flashing lights in a video game? I hope not.

It really didn't bother me either. I think some people don't notice it as much. I noticed I can see it more in videos then when I am playing. Watching ENB play through Bloodborne I am definitely seeing a bit of stutter every once in a while especially when he was in Old Yharnam. However when I went back and played one of my old saves I just wasn't noticing it.

The framepacing here seems so much worse than in Bloodborne. While playing I simply could not ignore it.

It makes animations really choppy

This sucks. The game is already a pretty poor showing in terms of visuals. I have a pro and 4k TV and the lite mode just looks so blurry but the frame pacing jank makes the game feel awful. What a shit show.
