The Last of Us Part II announced

Ok, I actually got weepy, which surprised me. Tribute to how attached I am to those characters and that story. Naturally it'll be years before we see it, but that's okay. Just glad to see it at all.

TLOU was one of the most amazing experiences in gaming I have ever had, but I'll be honest I wasnt keen on a sequel, the first game ended so well and I felt these characters could walk away.

Really was hoping the Savage Starlight comics were an easter egg for a new title from ND. I wold love their take on sci-fi. If we were to get a new TLOU, I would have preferred new characters and a new perspective.

Anyways, HYPED.

I'm starting to agree with the theory that Joel dies early in the game and is a hallucination for the rest of it. This is of course based on zero evidence aside from the fact that they didn't show his face in the trailer.

I hope that doesnt happen and I hope they dont copy the first games opening.

Joel is cool as fuck.

The announcement was about what I expected. A CG trailer showing a grown up Ellie. Not really sure I wanted to see these characters again but who knows, it'll probably be a great game. Guess we'll find out in 3-ish years.

you can't be all excited for a Gears 4 or Dead Rising 10 or Gran Turismo 7 etc etc and be salty they are continuing the tale of Joel and Ellie. Don't play it if it bums you out so much is my advice.

Me - pumped!

There's a pretty big difference between what you're talking about here and TLOU. Not surprised they're making a sequel, but it's surely obvious why people think that the story didn't need to directly continue. I have no doubt they'll make it compelling though whether they had used Ellie and Joel or not.

If anything, I'm amped for more of this type of gameplay. The Last of Us felt very unique that way in the AAA space.

As for the story, eh. Never adored the first game's story, will be happy to see this be the conclusion of it if possible. Two games, especially a gen apart, sounds enough.

Yep.

The gameplay was great. I honestly don't see the love for story or characters. But it's one of my top games because of the excellent encounter design.

Kevin love y u not hyped

The first game had one of the most memorable prologues in gaming history. I think they might do something similar and kill Joel off immediately and it will be the Ellie game.

I love the Joel character but I think the story has already been told and they'll need to start off with a bang.

You misinterpreted him.
he's probably implying that Joel died (because of a Firefly) and Ellie is killing them now in revenge. Joel in the End is just in her imagination. Not that far fetched, the way he enters the house
Yeah, that's what I meant. Bad choices of words due to hype.

I'll say what I said in the PSX thread, I don't really want to revisit these characters. It'd be nice to pretend they lead a more peaceful life afterwards.

I guess Druckmann just really wants to kill Joel.

Because you know that's happening.

For sure.

100%

No chance he doesn't get smoked.

Everyone thought for sure that one of them was gonna die in the first game too. Ultimate subversion of expectations if they do it again!

Assuming a similar time frame from teaser to release as Uncharted 4, I can see The Last Of Us 2 releasing in September or October 2018. Would be close to two years since the reveal, just like Uncharted 4 from E3 2014 to May 2016 release.

JOEL IS DEAD, KILLED BY THE FIREFLIES

WE WILL HAVE HIS GHOST TALKING TO US THROUGH THE WHOLE GAME

ELLIE DIES IN THE END AFTER TAKING VENGEANCE

I have no faith in Naughty Dog here to deliver a story that doesn't feel ham-fisted and stupid after Uncharted 4 where they gave Nate a brother.
We have to give them the benefit of the doubt. Remember that half of the game was Amy's and the other half is Neil's, that might have hurt the game. At least this one will be consistent since its all Neil.

TLoU was darn good. But after Uncharted 4 I'd rather they make a new IP. Direct sequel seems unwarranted too. They did a great job of telling a complete story with these characters in the first game, so why bring them back?

But saying that doesn't mean anything. What videogame NEEDS a sequel?

I'm not getting into semantics on GAF. Haha.

The Last of Us would have been held to a high regard being a self-contained story.

I believe in Naughty Dog to make me question why I ever didn't want more of these characters.

I'm with you.

The sequel to the best game I have ever played.

Good for fans, I suppose.

Game really didn't need a sequel though. And the "part II" really cheapens it. I get it was a huge money-maker for Sony.

This games gonna be something special.

Might actually buy a PS4Pro for this.

And GOOD on them for not listening to dumb requests about not bringing back Joel or Ellie. Thats like DBZ without Goku / Vegeta.

Didn't see this coming at all, holy shit I can't wait to see where they take it. Now it's media blackout time, I don't want to spoil anything else about this.

I made some observations.
The lyrics:

I run wild
through the valley
in the shadow of death
and I fear no evil
cause I'm blind to it all
in my mind
my gun (?) they come for me
because I know
I will kill my enemies
when they come
and all the goodness and mercy
will follow me
of the days of my life
and I will dwell
on the s... (can't find the word) of more
So I walk the side
... (can't listen to what she says)
but I can walk on the path of the right
cause I;m wrong
I can (maybe it's can't) walk on the path of the path of the right cause I'm wrong.

Joel says she's doing that for 30 days.
She says she's gonna find and kill every last of them.

Based on the lyrics, what Joel and Ellie said and her shaking hand, 'm gonna assume that Fireflies are hunting her, so she hunts them back. However, Joel seems very relaxed, he should fear because of Fireflies hunting Ellie.

The 1st games ending was so good and outta nowhere I'd be happy if they end the story at that.. but knowing NDs pedigree. They got this shit and I'm down for another GOAT game from them.

Pretty hyped.
And lol at the people complaining about Joel and Ellie returning.
The story dynamic between them two was the thing that made it a good game.
