A damn shame. These are the characters from the first game, so we gotta put em in the second game too. There's not one other story in the TLOUverse that might be worth telling? No other arcs to explore? Is ND that scared that nobody will buy a game called TLOU2 if it doesn't star J&E?

Hype aside, TLoU has been reconsidered in recent years by many here on this very forum as not that great.

I wanted no Ellie, no Joel and new stories in the world that aren't cover shooter murder sims. What you want and what you get are 2 diff things tho :/

I found the story and acting to be phenomenal.

The gameplay? Ehhhhh....

Man I'm torn now between my most anticipated upcoming game, it was Horizon but damn Naughty Dog, TLoU Part 2 !!!!! I was not expecting this being revealed today.

So many great games coming, my poor wallet.

Since it's still very early in development I don't expect this to come out until at least late 2018 / early 2019.

Take your time ND. Create another masterpiece again.

Here you fuckers go with this "it didn't need a sequel" shit

That trailer was fucking dope

I didn't want a sequel. I'm not gonna complain though; this ain't half bad. I really want to know what ND's plans are post TLOU & Uncharted, doubt they're gonna go back to making Jak & Daxter

So excited for this.

Really have to wonder where they are going to take the story and characters though.

Seems like they are going for a revenge plot but not sure how that will work.

It was my understanding that:

[
Joel basically decimated the entire firefly org and there was no one left

Part of me kind of hoped that it would have been about Ish (The guy who was on the boat that you find and then he built the settlement in the sewer) or been about

Ellie after Joel passes away, where she knows he was lying to her at the end of TLOU and after he goes she decides to go out there and try to finish what she set out to do in TLOU and find someone that can study her for a cure

Have you played TLOU? Lol.

You misinterpreted him.
he's probably implying that Joel died (because of a Firefly) and Ellie is killing them now in revenge. Joel in the End is just in her imagination. Not that far fetched, the way he enters the house

Oh shit, one of the panels is for TLoU P2

In the meantime, if you’re at PlayStation Experience today or watching the livestream from home, don’t miss our panel at 2:00pm PT where I’ll be joined by Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker to talk about the reveal. Keep an eye on Naughty Dog’s channels to see more of what we’re up to this weekend.

Also a brief note from Neil

I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to finally be able to say that Ellie and Joel are back for another intense, harrowing, and emotional adventure. Like many of you, we have a deep love for the world of The Last of Us and its characters, and while a sequel may have seemed like a foregone conclusion, that wasn’t the case. We knew that it needed to be a story worth telling and, perhaps more importantly, a story worthy of Joel and Ellie. After spending years on different ideas (and almost giving up), we finally uncovered a story that felt special—a story that evolved into an epic journey.

It’s still early days for the project—the game’s release is a ways off—but we couldn’t wait any longer to give you a glimpse of what’s to come. We’re going to let the trailer (coming soon to this post) speak for itself, but expect more information about The Last of Us Part II in the coming months.

Sweet mother of god

They didnt show joel tho :(

I'm starting to agree with the theory that Joel dies early in the game and is a hallucination for the rest of it. This is of course based on zero evidence aside from the fact that they didn't show his face in the trailer.

If anything, I'm amped for more of this type of gameplay. The Last of Us felt very unique that way in the AAA space.

As for the story, eh. Never adored the first game's story, will be happy to see this be the conclusion of it if possible. Two games, especially a gen apart, sounds enough.

I'll say what I said in the PSX thread, I don't really want to revisit these characters. It'd be nice to pretend they lead a more peaceful life afterwards.

I guess Druckmann just really wants to kill Joel.

Because you know that's happening.

For sure.

100%

No chance he doesn't get smoked.

I just realized something. Now that ellie is older, the fanfic for Joellie is going to be more acceptable

Not that I'm interested in that.

I have no faith in Naughty Dog here to deliver a story that doesn't feel ham-fisted and stupid after Uncharted 4 where they gave Nate a brother.

Oh my god.

It is precisely the sequel premise I'd hoped for. Keeping the two leads and giving the first game a direct continuation was always my dream.

ND going to be so insufferable with this one. I don't like the way they handled uncharted 4 with its uneven ass pacing.

Also wish they would have done all new characters instead but whatever
Moments of quiet time work much better in TLOU than they do in UC. We can only hope that they continue to do things like explorable spaces, push the AI and gameplay to be more dynamic, (you know, make it feel more like survival, which is something they did much better when we took control of Ellie), and hope the first 1/3rd of the game isn't drawn out like TLOU before we reached Bill's place.

Rewatching the trailer Joel sounds incredibly sad talking to Ellie.

Man, I feel like he might be in pain seeing what she's become. Yo there is so much opportunity for deep storytelling in this game

So, for how many years people will cry for the return of Ellie and Joel?
Can't wait for the reactions when ND announces Part III finishing the Joel and Ellie trilogy hahahahahahah.
