The Last of Us Part II announced

I kinda wish they woulda used new characters, or used Joel & Tommy during the 20 year gap, but I'm glad to see Joel is back. He made the original game for me. Can't wait to see more. And wow does this look visually stunning. Considering Uncharted 4 looked equally good in-game and in cutscenes, this will be an amazing experience.

Well, I don't like her tattoos but then I don't like tattoos on anyone. I fail to see how this makes me a creep.
Not liking tattoos does not make you a creep, don't worry. But if you felt protective of Ellie in some kind of projective farherly fashion and got disappointed she got whorish tattoos it would be. But I apologize this is really an unneeded derail.

whats with all these ignorant comments?

Accusing the developers being lazy or money-hungry because they feel that there is a story left to tell?

lol they had all possibilities of the world and actually i think by continuing the Story of Ellie & Joel the pressure is much bigger than starting with completely new characters

Yup

Making The Last of Us 2 is literally the least lazy option, since the pressure will definitely be gigantic.

I'd hate to see Joel die because I love him, but I think it's best for the series at this point.

And I trust ND to do it well. It doesn't need to be some big twist. The important thing isn't the twist. It's the reveal and seeing Ellie progress.

Re-watching the trailer in higher quality, Joel's entrance was rather celestial. He comes in from the light and looks upon what Ellie's done, then asks her if she's OK.

Guys, don't know if this has been mentioned, but there's a machete on the ground next to the dude. Explains why Ellie is so shook. Joel, if he's alive, wasn't around to stop her this time.

Joel definitely sounded less gravely here. Probably a quick and dirty vo session

It's probably more that just adding a 2 to the end reads awkwardly. That and the community was pretty divided about wanting a sequel. So they can play this off as the story always being planned for parts and not just them milking something that got popular.

good point!

I think it was more of a "I've created a monster" moment.
Consider if the Fireflies attack out of the blue, Ellie wouldn't understand why but Joel totally would. I imagine he'd try to talk her out of it, but any effective explanation would require to tell her the truth of what really happened with the Fireflies

This series doesn't seem like a "ghost" series to me, whether we're talking literal specters or characters' imaginations. Last of Us is too much about subtlety for that and I'm kind of surprised people are that into such a theory.

What they just showed here probably wont be in the game.

When I saw the guitar I thought the person playing was going to play a few seconds of the main theme to the last of us and then it would cut out there.

Welp, this is what's finally going to get me to buy a PS4. Hoping there will be a Last of Us bundle that comes with the new game and the remaster of the old one.

This pic makes me think its ghost Joel, entering the scene as a silhouette against bright light.

The way he says "what are ya doin' kiddo" casually with bodies strewn everywhere seems off too if he was there in person.

Not sure if we should spoiler-tag our story predictions based on the trailer, but I've got a big hunch that
Joel is already dead here. Fireflies caught up to them, killed Joel, failed to capture Ellie again.

Joel looks to 'clean', not that much older, to relaxed in speaking. Looks like either her mind/conscience talking to her. Would be the likeliest thing to motivate Ellie going on a rampage against the Fireflies.

She'll learn more about what Joel kept from her, having to deal with that Joel against her memory of father Joel. Complex relationships yo.
For God's sakes, are we really treating predictions as spoilers?

Ugh.

I wouldnt call returning to Joel and Ellie 'lazy', just a bit of missed opportunity to open the world up in new and interesting ways

In the grand scheme of things we barely know Ellie. Hell, the character barely knows her self and I'm sure that'll will be a big part of the story here. Any new ground they could explore with different leads they can easily explore with her. Only there's added tension by players already being deeply invested.

Yup. I am very confident in the theory that he is dead and she is just imagining him.

Agreed. It's lazy work using the same characters, characters who had their ending. It's Uncharted 4 all over again. An unnecessary sequel to characters that had their ending in the game before, just to make a quick buck.

Oh. My. God.

The Last Of Us essentially left on a cliffhanger with them arriving to a camp/settlement that god knows what its there for and HOW its funded in an apocalyptic world where everything gone to shit. There is so much to tell in the world and the fungus virus, it almost felt like Naughty Dog didnt expand on it enough.

These guys tell amazing stories and its never enough for some people.

Naughty Dog can never win.

After watching the amount of effort Druckmann put Troy through to get Joel right, I think you are on the money that the trailers voice work is just a quicker job than the actual game will be

It's definitely Troy Baker

I hope the PS4 will allow them to push infected vs hunters vs player scenarios in a compelling manner. Left Behing tried it, but the limitations were obvious. After Uncharted 4, no doubt that the encounter design of this game will be off the charts.

Additionally, I want the infection to spread to the wildlife so that they can resurrect some of the concept art from the first game.

Uncharted 4 really stepped up the combat, I'd say its one of the best shooting games ever mechanically.

Definitely.

Their excuse for TLOU1 was that PS3 didn't have enough memory to animate female combatants, but then they failed to have any female enemies in Uncharted 4 where the PS3 isn't a factor so it feels like a bullshit excuse.

I don't remember that. Wasn't it Ubisoft ?

He also didn't have any grey in his hair, FWIW.

On Joel is a hallunication theory, I want to add that shaking hands and hallunications are symptoms of schizophrenia. Maybe they are symptoms of other psychological disorders, too.

Yeah the whole way he just so casually strolls up and seems so calm the whole time is what's making me think its possible. He isn't running in there to see if Ellie is ok as you would expect him to do.

For physiological aspects, it's a sign of hypoglycemia for one :p

But schizophrenia could be an interesting route, but I'm more thana little wary of going down some kind of "violent schizophrenia murder rampage" route.
It'll be okay, take deep breaths
It'll never be okay until people stop acting insane about things being spoilers that aren't spoilers.

No ghosts...it has no place in TLOU.

That's Uncharted.

But she did not seem to notice Joel was there so. Maybe she was talking to herself.

FUCK...if this is like SUpernatural.

Yup. I am very confident in the theory that he is dead and she is just imagining him.
Also, one more thing. There didn't seem to be anything going on outside, it looked rather peaceful. All of the action happened inside that house as evident by the bodies. Why would Joel be outside then while Ellie fends for herself inside? He comes inside after everything's happened and then checks on her. A little creepy, but really interesting.
