The Last of Us Part II announced

Do we even know for sure the guy in the video is Joel?

Looks a lot like Tommy to me.

Wait, why are some people upset about Joel and Ellie being in the sequel? That doesn't make any sense. It wouldn't really be The Last of Us Part II without them. I'd be severely disappointed if they weren't in it.

She already knows the truth.

Obviously something else has happened:

* She has been raped by "evil gang".
* The fireflies either created the virus or were working on making it worse.
* She is going to wipe out all tattoo artists in the world for messing her arm up so much.

Which will it be? Almost certainly the second one, with the third one as post launch DLC.
She knows Joel lied. But she doesn't know what Joel lied about. Do you think she would be fine about Joel killing Marlene and slaughtering the rest and whatnot?

"I walk through the valley of the shadow of death.
I fear no evil because I'm blind to it all.
My mind and my gun they comfort me,
because I know I'll kill my enemies when they come.
Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell on this earth forevermore.
I walk beside the still waters and they restore my soul,
but I can't walk on the path of the right because I'm wrong.
Well I came upon a man at the top of a hill,
call himself the savior of the human race.
Said he come to save the world from destruction and pain,
but I said how can you save the world from itself.

I walk through the valley of the shadow of death.
I fear no evil because I'm blind.
I walk beside the still waters and they restore my soul,
but I know when I die my soul is damned."

Somehow the lyrics are even more chilling with Ellie singing them.

So question about the story.

It looked like they were at a Firefly camp where someone, presumably Ellie, had killed a bunch of people. She says that she wants to hunt them all down and kill them and I'm assuming she's again referring to the Fireflys. The way Joel says, 'Are you sure you really want to do this kiddo?' make me think it might be part of his big lie from last game where he said they had been unsuccessful at curing the infection. Maybe he even had to elaborate more on it as she got older and began asking more questions?

To me it looked like, someone else had killed everyone and that Ellie had survived. Probably the town they'd been living at for a while?

If she knows he lied, she knows pretty much what went down.

Is she ok with it? Well I guess we are going to be finding out, which is an exciting prospect. I imagine she wouldn't be ok with it, but there will be some sort of catalyst to bring her around, with the fireflies being evil being the obvious choice.

The discussion around these things shows just how brilliant of an ending it was.

Amazing trailer.
I love her cover of the song. It fits the tone perfectly

Seeing an older Ellie is like watching Clem mature through The Walking Dead games. Those were the game characters, along with Joel, the Oxenfree group, and SOMA's Simon, that I've been the most invested in, so just the prospect of continuing her story is thrilling.

It's a more reasonable kind of nostalgia because I trust ND to do an awesome job with her character growth

I'm questioning what may be going on with the story. Is Ellie operating under the understanding that the Fireflies supposedly killed Marlene in some sort of powerplay or does she actually know that Joel killed Marlene to save her? She looks to be notably older, so I doubt if it's the former. I think she knows what Joel has done and accepted it and is at odds with the Fireflies for some other reason.

The trailer may have also been a red herring, created to make you believe that the dead in the house are fireflies. The room that Ellie is seen in resembles the decorations a teenager would have, i.e. her. Maybe this is where she and Joel were actually living and either a.) the fireflies have been trying to track them down to exact revenge and finally happened upon them or b.) Ellie's victims are from a different organization entirely since the Fireflies were on their last legs fighting a two pronged war against the military and various groups of hunters, all this before Joel saved Ellie and killed their leader.

I have the utmost faith that they'll be able to create a great story and build upon the world and characters that they have already established but I hope they make some changes to the gameplay. I just want the characters to be more mobile, an ability to do a combat roll would be nice or ability to be peddle and shoot without the camera changing orientation would be awesome. Those are the only changes I want.

I was originally on the "I don't want a sequel" train. ND made me change my mind with that trailer. It was a perfect trailer. I fully trust that they will handle the ending of the first game well.

Man I wish Naughty Dog was using their talents for another game. Last of Us was good but I didn't think it was amazing. And please don't make this a trilogy.

I knew it was coming, but hot damn was it good to see it.

I do feel The Last of Us was complete, but the truth is that Ellie and Joel's story was far from over. The ending was perfect, but I think every single one of us was thinking, "What's next?!" after the screen cut to black. I was satisfied with The Last of Us, but I really did want more.

So, Naughty Dog announces a sequel to a game was tied up in a way that did not at all justify a sequel and an addon to a game in a franchise that has now been declared "done" twice over. It's really impressive how much they're willing to bet it all on trying new things and innovating considering how much profit they've made on their releases over the past decade. What could possibly be next for them, Last of Us 2 DLC and Uncharted 5? Only time will tell!

I watched the trailer closely and I'm not seeing Joel being an hallucination there. Maybe he will die or he won't appear much at all, but I don't think he was a figment of her imagination there.

I'm still bitter about them dropping a new J&D for TLOU but I'm still super excited for TLOU Part II, the first game was incredible.

I slept through everything in the middle of that presentation. Naughty Dog stole the show. I am so glad that Naughty Dog decided to not give us a prerendered trailer and have learned from their past mistakes. There was nothing here that couldn't be rendered on a PS4, but it was just as impressive as one of their prerendered trailers.

It's just Ellie and her guitar. The animation here is brilliant and makes every other game look dated.

Man, a lot of shit must have gone down between the ending of the previous game to (what I assume) is the present day of Part II's setting. As if it couldn't become anymore pessimistic, but here we have a young adult Ellie willing to hunt down the remaining members of the Fireflies with Joel.

To be honest, I hated the ending to The Last of Us, so honestly it would be weirdly cathartic to see Joel get fucked over in some way.

Also they seriously need to give the stealth some more depth. I feel like TLoU had parts I enjoyed but overall really felt kinda...meh to me. Enemies don't do that much interesting stuff, they run out of situational variety pretty quickly, etc.

Since they announced that Gustavo santaolalla will be returning to compose and he has already started working on the soundtrack for the game, doesn't this mean that the game is a lot further along in development than everyone thinks it, i mean usually the soundtracks to the games don't usually happen until near the end of the production

This is now automatically my most anticipated game ever.

No pressure.

I hope the tone of the trailer is justified by missing context. The first game didn't come off as bleak for it's own sake.

Had an emotional reaction to seeing the characters again, in spite of the characters being rounded of nice and ambiguously already.

But again, the whole Psalm 23:6 thing and unexplained revenge narrative come off as unnecessary without context.

God, this is going to be so good. I'm wondering if ND would make it blatantly obvious that it's not Joel. The entire internet could guess that; I fully expect it to be something more.

Stop Fireflies, huh.

Though, no date? I feel like that's an automatic 2018 at the earliest. Kind of hard to get excited about it if that's the case.
