I mean I got that much, but I guess my problem is I want to play this game like a character action game, but the camera gets in the way of that. Especially in some of the boss fights it's nearly impossible to tell what the fuck is going on, so I end up taking a lot of hits even if I can parry no problem.
 
20 hours in, just got to Lestallum.

The more things you unlock, the better the combat gets. Can't wait to pair Airdance with Osmostrike. The Teamwork grid is pretty important as well, I feel that they're much more capable now instead of just being there dicking around and doing nothing.

Loving it so far, despite it's flaws. It's a special game for sure.
 
Someone said something about an ability that allows Noctis to quickly recover from getting hit... where is this?

I used a spear a lot, but the spear's counterattack knocks a lot of enemies down. So I'd focus on one enemy and make sure to time dodge it (not just hold down) and then counterattack knocks them down.

These screenshots are awesome. Playing the game on a standard PS4 and really enjoying the visuals.
 
I'm still addicted to sidequesting. 25 1/2 hours in, level 39 still in chapter 6.

Try fighting in the forest when trees and grass screw you over.
 
Anyone knows a good advanced tutorial for the battle system? There is so many things that the game don't teaches players properly.

I'm good at the basics but I want to try/learn advanced stuff.

When you reach the campsite, make sure you do the training. It helped me a ton on defense. I used to die instantly on battles and now I get through most without a scratch. Still can't beat lvl 20 training tho. I enter stasis dodging all those attacks.
 
Finally reached chapter 9. It's beautiful, so beautiful. Although
i looked at the map and it looks big but something tells me I'm not gonna be exploring most/almost all of it...
 
Seems like the tide of opinion is turning on this game. Are people realizing that it's just an OK game that does a few things really well but does many things poorly? High highs and low lows. SE hasn't really given me faith they can restore FF to former glory with this title.
 
Really loving the game so far - I've finished Chap 2. Are most of the side quests hunts? I really enjoyed the chocobo quest that was extremely cool.

I seem to be leveling up quite quickly tho, is that normal? I think I'm level 10 already, is there a limit?
 
I got a Chocobo question if anyone doesn't mind answering. When your rental period expires, is all progress on your Chocobo gone? By that I mean will it be back to a level 1 Chocobo if I rent again? I just keep renting it further every time a day passes because I'm scared of finding out.
 
The plot is shaky for too long. People, and things that don't matter get too much screen time and certain dynamics aren't explored enough between cool bro fetch quests.

That was so so good. Simple but left a big impact. I felt cheated, like I wanted to spend more time with everyone (even Iris!) The post credits scene with Noctis and Luna was nice but too ambiguous. It should have been placed somewhere else. I can hear the arguing about whether they can still magic themselves back to life a mile away, and SE pondering the retcon for the $$$

That being said, I really enjoyed it. I'll go back for post game at some point soon, but the ending is just sitting on me for the moment.

Progress stays. It's the same chocobo each time anyway.

I dont think it resets. I'm sure it picks up from where it was left.

i was thinking there's no way this boat can house the car, but then the boat looked MASSIVE compared to the ones in Altissia lmao
 
I already watched Kingsglaive once, months ago before the game's release. It just doesn't work as a standalone film but now that I've actually played the game past the first chapter, I actually understand where it fits in the overall story now and also it's place within it.

If I treat Kingsglaive as a roughly 2 hours long extended cutscene which fits between chapters 1 and 2, but which was obviously way too long to be stuffed into the game itself, it makes perfect sense.

The quality of CGI throughout Kingsglaive is absolutely exquisite too so it's hard to be mad at something that tries as hard as Kingsglaive does. Whatever failings it has, it's not because it's fundamentally a bad film. It's because it has to fit within the confines of a larger story yet also tell a complete story that attempts to be cohesive within the larger story. When this is taken into account, the many issues with the script seem much more forgivable.

Besides, that final sequence is pretty amazing. The obvious limits of the script and plot as glaring as they were, for the final set piece they pretty much were like fuck it, let's at least make this last fight sequence fucking ridiculous and awesome. It's like they combined Pacific Rim and Advent Children into one gigantic CGI orgasm.

I have to go through that entire dungeon with slow iggy by my side? This is taking forever.

For how long do you lose access to the open world on the first warning the game gives you when you're heading to
Altissia
.

The mission is Lvl 29, Noct (and essentially his team) are level 42. I don't wanna keep doing side quests and get even more overleveled but at the same time if once you start the wild ride of the linear aspect of the game you can't stop for a while then....

You'll pretty much have access to it the whole time with a few exception by the last chapters. You'll know when it'll be available.

Sadly no limit to the level, they will add cap limit in the next update though.

There are plenty of different side missions!

Yep. The opening and last act of that movie were a sight to see. If everything in the middle was better-paced it could've been so, so good.

The camerawork is a bit too shaky all around though, lol. Got kinda hard to to keep up with some action sequences.

EDIT: Actually now that I think about it, Kingsglaive and FFXV have a lot in common, lmao. The character and world, it's all wonderful and there are moments of awesomeness that make you gape and admire. The parts are first-class, but the whole doesn't always come together. The friken camera. :P

Cape Caem was? Like, was it an the royal family's seaside house or something? And for some reason I just remembered Iris saying she wanted to go somewhere after the shit with Jared but I think it was with an R and I can't remember what it was. Minor annoyances.
 
It's funny, if you're in chapter 3 and manage to get a quest in Alitissa the game thinks it can fast travel you there but just drops you off at a lighthouse on the coast

40 hours in chapter 3, however I don't recommend it actually because you can't reach the full map yet. Probably would've been better to wait another chapter or two but I didn't know
