I simply do NOT comprehend how one can POSSIBLY make ANY heads or tails in battles against many enemies. The targeting system is WONKY as hell (really, need to press the button at all times to engage in a lock-on?) and the screen looks so busy as hell, it's just chaotic, with no sense of elegance or tactics at all.

Any tips in order to make battles against many enemies more elegant?

Struggling with this as well. The pure chaos on the screen makes efficient dodging a total fucking crap shoot as well.

I'm on chapter 14 and I still have no idea how to summon, can someone please tell me how the summoning system works? to me it feels like a total RNG when all stars align the prompt for summon will show up.

I have been trying to do that and its hard.

But I find that being patient and defensive till you find an opening where attacking makes sense can somewhat make fights a little more elegant and sensible.

Pick your spots I guess ,but yeah even then it can still feel a bit dumb.

I personally feel the game's combat shines when the screen is less busy and having fewer smaller types of enemies. When there are bunch of enemies all over the place I found it hard to exactly grasp the situation, and when I attack nearby enemies I get attacked by other enemies from far away with guns or something lol. So I try to place defense with holding guard button and react after their attacks. And yea I found lock-on really frustrating as well.

use magic until the horde is thinned, pick off the ones at the edge, warp away and survey the battlefield often

if you wear most of them down with magic before swooping in it becomes easy.

Google it for more info, but they're all based on specific conditions.
Ramuh is more likelier to be summoned the longer you're in battle, Titan is when one of your friends have been downed (You might have to be outside though), Leviathan is when you're near a body of water, and you're in Danger mode, etc. I haven't even met Leviathan yet, so I don't know what the rest of them do. But it's not difficult to just quickly look it up, and not be spoiled.

As for those struggling with large mobs, I feel you, but yea, that's one of the primary uses for magic imo. At the very least, don't just dive into the middle of the large group and expect things to turn out well, unless you just don't give a fuck and/or are much stronger than said enemies.

I'm loving it so far. It's not perfect by any means, but the gameplay the character interactions have been top notch.

The story is messy and some of the emotional moments feel forced, but that hasn't detracted from the sheer joy I'm having playing this game. The main cast just works together, their banter and chemistry is fantastic. The photos are such a fun addition that really sell the road trip vibe. Flipping through various FF albums is a touch of genius. Part nostalgic part a show of how much incredible music the series has generated. Shimomura's works have been consistently fantastic, this one in particular get's me pumped every time. The different battle themes keep things fresh, my favorite being this one.

I'm only at chapter 6, and can already tell the story isn't gonna magically come together. I've read that tons of important stuff happens in the background which is a sin when it comes to story telling. You can tell the game is a product of a protracted development with elements being amended or half baked in order for this to be shipped on this current console generation.

It's a shame really, this game's core gameplay is incredible, Eos is a blast to explore. Too bad the story itself isn't as fleshed out as it should be. Feels like a rough draft, and they had to rush out their final draft before class the next day. Wasted potential. Yet people seem to love the ending so it can't be all that bad. If they can nail the ending I think I'll be fine with the overall narrative.

Yeah I looked up on google before posting, whats said on the website where I think you got your info doesn't happen. it still feels like a full RNG mess, I was in a water area with team mates downed, fighting for 30min just now, no sign of any summon.

Fighting 5+ enemies at ones is probably the worst thing about battles in this game. Even worse than camera problems.

What might help if you make Prompto use gravity on them and then cast a spell with stop element I think.

Haven't tried it my self, but I will next time I encounter 7 fucking killer bees.

Not even close to finishing.About 17 hours in,finally got to Duscae(which looks better and is far bigger than the Demo btw)

What turned you off so severely from the game ? You've been closely following and covering this game for years and years and years.

Nice! Duscae has been looking good in the screenshots people are posting. Also guessing that long hours spent in a desert early game makes Duscae more exciting.

I liked Versus for its dark atmosphere and KH combat. But this FFXV is its own thing and is different to what I wanted. My interest dropped majorly after playing Duscae. The combat and controls were not what I was expecting at all.

But anyway. The aerial combat is still one of the most unique things I've ever played, and I want to fight Catoblepas and other big monsters while warping from one end to another, and no other game is going to give me that. It's just sad because with a little more work, this could have been one of the best combat systems ever.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
No but seriously guys I'm not seeing enough complaints about the lock-on. It's seriously the worst in any game I've ever played and it's ironic too because this game has the largest regular amount of enemies per encounter I've experienced in an RPG (10+ is not uncommon at all), so it's even more surprising that the lock-on flat-out does not work properly. Even when using hard lock-on, it'll sometimes randomly slip-up. Use a team attack? You are no longer locked on to anything afterwards. Killed one enemy out of the current 25 you're facing? You are no longer locked on to anything. Have fun spending the next 5+ seconds desperately attempting to lock onto that enemy that you want to lock-on to, while you're getting attacked by 7 enemies at once, 8 including the camera.

Wait mode helps with the bolded part. But yes, I do agree that the lock-on needs tuning. It's usually kind of best to not use lock in large groups as is, but they really do need to fix it so lock will auto-target to the closest enemy after kills or maintain after various battle events that reorient the camera.

I dunno the whole game is just riddled with issues like the above and ultimately I really think critics and fans are being largely too kind overall. At the point where I am forcing myself to press on as each session I grow less and less interested to bother seeing this through.

Question.
final fight
in chapter 2. They mentioned possibly skipping it. Did it anyway. Could you actually skip it? What would happen if you did run.

Hahhaha yeah that happened to me a fair few times before i said fck this shit, let's go Bloodborne style unlocked. Anyway he self-dodges, so the precise strafing around an enemy becomes moot. Once you make that concession and nail the blocks - it becomes insane fun to get Links, breaks, and parries for fun. And yeah you do have warp around a fair bit to get all the idiots on screen.

The best camera in the fight I've had is in a random hunt with
giraffe-likes and a fucking parrot
- the camera went top up like Diablo, and hell you could tactically make so many adjustments and move around freely. Wouldn't mind that option to be patched in.

Just started yday and 6 hours in and Chapter 1 just over. All I've done is take on menial and hilariously stupid hunts and side quests because after a long time, it's not only easy but super fun to try new things while fighting. Almost every fight you'd to think of something new.

I think the combat fundamentally has design problems/bone headed decisions that would never go away with more time.

KH2 combat is far better ,and I am most certain that
Nomura would've delivered a far better combat system.KH2 is proof enough of that

But yeah doing hunts still ends up being fun and warping is indeed unique.

A few hours (about 6) in and its a mixed bag so far for me. Combat is ok, kinda fun, the world is amazing, best animations i've seen so far in a game...But holy shit the NPCs are terrible. They seem to be from another game. And how the story is being told is quite bad.

The side quest are beyond terrible tho. I mean, they dont need to be Witcher 3 level of quality but they needed a lot of work here...I would totally trade a smaller world with more focus on side quest.

Music is incredible.

I can say i like it more than FF XIII, but i do hope it gets better.

It does get better, especially when the world opens up for you. TBH, the quests are still fetch. But, the combat does feel so much better when you start unlocking all the abilities in the Ascension Grid.

Are you using wait mode?

No, and I am not really planning to, since I thought playing in real time is..., how should I say this, "the way it's supposed to be", I guess?

Should I?

Haven't really played around with magic, I am still at the beginning, but many of the fights against multiple enemies I've had so far are more often than not looked sooo ugly, hahaha.

I guess it's not just me.

What's the best control setup for you folks?

Also, while I am at it, can we actually skip time without spending money for lodgings? I am still afraid of venturing out at night, hahaha.

I just finished Chapter 13.

...that was the "dreaded" 13, that people have been saying is the worst thing in a game, whoever conceived it should be shot, hyperbole, etc etc?

Really? Lmao. It was a little long but I enjoyed it, it was an interesting change up, story advanced a lot.

The hyperbole over this game is insane, honestly.

????
It wasn't bad, just way too long imho.

I'm in the same place as you. This is the dumbest shit I've seen in a game in a long time. This story is fucking terrible.

It's honestly making me laugh at points on how absurd it can be. Like in Chapter 6
when Ignis tells Noctis the guy they knocked out escaped from the Hunters literally in seconds off screen.
It's so unintentionally bad and funny at times.

I'm still enjoying the game though. The enemy designs keep getting better and better.

Control Type B is the way to go. I also heard C is alright too, but meh, didn't seem like it at first glance. But I know that without a doubt, Control Type A is horrible. Type B lets you be able to easily attack and hold the dodge button at the same time, so that's all that really needs to be said there.

And no, there's no way to skip to daytime, outside of maybe like fast traveling to a place that's several minutes away, because that lets time fly by during the loading screen.

What is going on with the clingiest girlfriend of all time, aka the imperial soldiers constantly falling out of the sky? I can't even take a picture with my man Prompto before they creepily come out of nowhere. Which makes it frustrating since I'm a level 11 and these guys are level 18 which makes them hard to beat...

LEAVE ME ALONE.

Hmmm, I should maybe switch to B then. I was playing with A.

I see about the time skipping... hmmm. Alright thanks.

Also, I guess the best way to farm money is to go for hunts, yeah? I miss the old days when monsters dropped Gil after battle, hahaha.

Minor (kinda major) complaints: the various icons on the minimap can be difficult to see sometimes, especially for magic/components gatherings -_____- Maybe it's just me.

What's the best Ascension stuff to chase after?

If you guys are having issues with big enemy crowds I suggest you unlock promptos gravity tech. It gathers enemies long enough to react accordingly. A cheap spell is 99x sheep milk and 99x of whatever element. It cost about 990 gil to make and the milk is easily bought.

Just got to the first real dungeon in Chapter 2. My god, the camera was spazzing out and made it impossible to see anything and artificially increased the game's difficulty.

Yeah, it was a bit long, that's true. But I thought one of the complaints was that the chapters were all too short? Lol.

I dunno, I can't understand the intense hyperbole over this game.

Chapter 13 spoilers
Also, I really like Ardyn as a villain, so having him chat at me the whole chapter was really amusing, and the last few scenes with him were ace (HIS FACE!!)

Finally decided to stop doing side stuff and move on with the game. I'm way over-leveled, but I always do that in FF's. Love it.

The chapter 3(4?) boss battle had me missing
God of War 3
. Some nice visual stuff there.
dude, wat...
Poster is kind of right in a way. A lot of it is just has to do with the camera blocking and fluidity that FF13's scenes had and FF15 doesn't. Some of FF15's stuff just feels kind of 'cheap' in a way.

I'm early in the game, and from what I hear it gets more story oriented near the backend, so we'll see if the cutscenes get longer/better.

It's not all bad though, as FF15 gets some points because some of the "cutscenes" actually let you play them out. That, and the general banter between the four bros, and the general quality of writing, is way better than FF13.

Quick question. I'm in chapter 6. Ever since I entered
Malmalam Thicket
the camera has been stuck close to Noctis, it'll go back to the normal distance if I enter combat but then it goes right up to his back once I'm out. I thought it was just because of the dungeon but I've dropped
Iris off at Cape Caem
and it's still following too closely. Changing the camera distance in the options menu doesn't seem to do anything so I left it at the default, middle.

How you do this? Also, how do you have so little Gil?

Doing sidequests + hunts + EXPcast a whole lot.

I had more money, but I spent it on lots of elixirs and hi-elixirs so I could last against the tougher enemies in dungeons like Castlemark. Also I generally don't sell treasures until I actually have something I want to use the gil for.

So I just finished Ch.4

lol, uh, WTF happend!?

I mean, I get what happend in VERY broad strokes, but yeah, I REALLY hope things don't continue to be this chopped up :(
