Final Fantasy XV |OT| There and back again.

Quick question. I'm in chapter 6. Ever since I entered
Malmalam Thicket
the camera has been stuck close to Noctis, it'll go back to the normal distance if I enter combat but then it goes right up to his back once I'm out. I thought it was just because of the dungeon but I've dropped
Iris off at Cape Caem
and it's still following too closely. Changing the camera distance in the options menu doesn't seem to do anything so I left it at the default, middle.

It happened to me as well. Try reloading a save file.

The combat is pretty but incredibly imprecise. It feels like I'm controlling a controller controlling a puppeteer controlling Noctis.

I like the general idea of it, but it just just does not work half the time. Small battles are generally OK.

At the end of the fight in Chapter 4, why couldn't the final QTE have been set up through dialogue (Ignis: "Noctis, I think I have a plan! Just hold him off a little longer!") instead of pausing the action to make me read a text box pop-up?

It's a little thing, but it's just another example of the game's chronic reliance on text boxes and load screen tips instead of using actual dialogue. The quest objective pop-up that starts chapter 5 is yet another example of that sort of thing.
.

LOL, I know right

And after I read said text, the engagement... just... sort of.... concluded

I just beat a secret boss
in the sewer dungeon, the giant serpent
. I just got a material from it, is there anything else here I'm missing? Is it used for something?

A lot of materials are just for magic or food. Also
do you have Cindy's quest for the holy headlights? Because there is another boss.

Yeah, no. You can make an RPG with cohesive art direction and pleasing world logic. Ni No Kuni is an example, Pokemon is an example, Dark Souls is an example. You're not feeding stray cats and you don't have completely clashing aesthetics everywhere.

How do I make Cid upgrade one of my weapons? It keeps asking me to upgrade the wrong damn one and it takes like six hours for him to finish. Trying to do Engine Blade III..

I'm already thinking about FFXVI now. I was in love with the game despite some faults until today, when I decided to complete Chapters 3 and 4, aka play around 40 mins of the main story.

First FF for me since X. I am really liking it so far.

Few questions.

Can I only scan enemies in "wait" fight mode?

Selling items, what category can I sell without worry? Do items vary depending on buyer ? Do all items have a purpose? Or are some just ment to sell for Gill?

What happens when I fill my 99 elemental inventory? Does casting spell deplete that?

Thanks

Finally back in front of my TV, went back into the final moments of Ch. 9 and
WHAT THE FLIP?! Kinda upset, but in the same time not sure in what way. I'm just gonna roll through this and scrutinize it later.

Also in spite of what people say I dig Gladio and see what angle he comes from. Each of the group is different in their own way, but they always have Noctis in their best interests, which, when you think about it, is the one bedrock in the entire game, thematically, and that's some compelling stuff.

Even if the amount of sharp-edged lines he gets dwarfs his other sides 90% of the time. >_<

Chapter 9 actually made me shut off the game because well i'm
mortified, and so disappointed.
I've never seen such troll tactics in my life.

Saw this post earlier but decided to save it 'til I beat it.
Now I relate. LUNAFREYA COME BAAACK..!!

I'm having a great time with the game overall. Up to Chapter 6 now. Granted, the main plot is insufferably written, the voice acting is poor at best, driving can get boring, and Prompto is the literal worst. BUT, despite all that, the world feels charming and well-realized. The side quests and progression systems are addicting. The set pieces are impressive. Love the OST. And I'm really, really enjoying the combat system (minus dodging/partying which is kind of a crapshoot).

I'm impressed at how well everything came together. It's a Frankenstein monster of sorts, but it somehow turned out to be a fun one.

I just finished Chapter 4.

Holy Jump Cut, Batman.

Edit:
Wait a minute, spirit lady comes off and spouts words that barely constitute as sentences, and then suddenly the game is like "FIND THE THREE RUNESTONES OF RAMUH". Like, what in the fuck? Where in the fuck did that ev... She didn't even mention three Runestones- wait, what the fuck, Ramuh? Did we even talk about him before no- what in the fuck

If you guys are having issues with big enemy crowds I suggest you unlock promptos gravity tech. It gathers enemies long enough to react accordingly. A cheap spell is 99x sheep milk and 99x of whatever element. It cost about 990 gil to make and the milk is easily bought.

Where's the milk at?

So two questions chocobros:

1) What some of the best 99/333 skills I should be investing? Anything been found that breaks the game yet?

2) What chapter is the one where the
open world end stuff kind if gets put on hold?
Can I go back and play at any point or will have to wait until post game become available?

Fuck sake with this story

Everything really IS off screen.

I'm in Chapter 9. Returned to Lucis and now there's a quest where all the sidequest characters gather in a diner to discus something with you. But, according to the game, I've only befriended 13 of a total 14 characters. Does this mean I've missed a quest chain?

Edit: Also, when can I infiltrate the last base?

Ha I know right. Just wait until you get to chapter 6. Super epic.

I accidentally skipped a picture selection and my last save was an hour behind. They should ask if you're sure you want to exit before moving on.

Side note. They should really make a Phantasm Star Online type game with this FFXV style fighting. Would sure be pretty awesome. More monsters and items to pick up and such an expansive world.

Speaking of online wonder what they are going to do with that.

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
I'm in chapter 9 now and I really wish the water in this game didn't look like it was constantly bugging out. These reflections are sooo jarring.

Lol no joke, IMO that felt like the most disjointed part of the game so far.
The fact that they also strip you of your car before they make you collect those stones was even more frustrating.

Does anyone have any tips on making the camera not suck? I'm getting to the point where I'm finally fighting reasonably challenging enemies and it's becoming a real issue when it comes to dodging properly.

I'm on ch. 10 and I haven't stopped sighing since finishing 9 lol.

Sure seems like a lot of chapters in this game are a 'bummer'. I'm only up to 5.

Well for the record my position on this is more to do with the direction of certain things rather than quality per se. Speaking for myself though!

Bring too many healing items
Only look for the lock-on icon on the screen when you hold down R1
Hold O and press Square when it comes up, numbers are good to see
Pray
?????????

Use Chocobos. 3x Times better and also you can swim in the lake to cross it faster for the last objective. I mean, I don't know why you complain...

Well, after 55 hours I finally think I completed all possible hunts in Chapter 3 (barring one that I have to wait until its daytime/raining). All the other side quests are done too, and I'm a lvl 6 hunter and the group is lvl 64. I think I can finally move on to chapter 4.

That hunt is really easy if you have it during ch.4/5 (can't remember which).
Thanks for the heads up.

edit: Actually, I just managed to get it.

I built up 180k exp and slept at the 3x experience hotel. Went from lvl 38 to 60.

Used that to beat the game just minutes ago. Time for the spoiler thread I guess.

What an astonishing disappointment that was. I hope that as the raw upset fades I'll be able to appreciate the game for the few things it did well, but right now...? Nah. Just pure disappointment.
