The Last of Us Part II announced

So what about a release window?

Them mentioning to be super cautious this time around, and only giving us a window when they're 110% sure to hit it, leads me to believe that this might be aimed at Summer 2018.

Wishful thinking, I know.

I think the fireflies attacked Tommy's camp and killed everyone and Joel now has a big scar on his face. That's why Ellie wants to kill every last one of them.

Speaking of which, why not call the game The Last of Them

Also, hope Ellie gets the line "you know Joel, he really was the last of them ".

I'm happy they decided to let Elllie be the main protagonist and not Joel again.

Just that sold me, but I know ND are great so whenever they choose to do would have been good for me! :D

Graphic looks fantastic, probably Pro version there, but I don't care so much about that... I just want another good game and intense story.

I bought a PS4 for The Last of Us Remastered and it was well worth it, maybe I'll get a Pro for TLoU 2.

I thought you were gonna say you were gonna get a PS5 for TLoU2 remastered, heh.

Ellie leaving blood on the guitar:

This kind of obsessive detail is a bit much, you can see Ellie not leaving just leaving blood, but a fingerprint of her blood. I'd be surprised if this kind of stuff is sustained for an actual, whole game to be honest.

Ah fuck it, ordered the TLOU Remaster just now. Didn't like it very much initially, but I'll give it a second try and hope I'll like it more so I can join in on the TLOUp2 hype.

I am planning to play it again sometime as mine was on PS3 and I forgot much of it

Late 2018/Spring 2019 is my guess.

So I got 3/4ths of the way through on a grounded playthrough of Remastered. Lost the save somehow in the meantime.

Not looking forward to the basement. That said. Just playing the intro now and I forgot how fantastic and tense this gameplay is especially on Grounded. 3 bullets, a brick, and overwhelming odds.

Game is perfection.

I always dread going through the basement and doing the cabin fight

Sony stopped releasing their big games in the holiday season so it's either spring 2018 or spring 2019. 2018 seems too soon :(
Didn't know Summer and Fall didn't exist in your world. :P

On a more serious note, I've repeated several times I expect this to release in September 2018. Let's see if I'm right, haha. Almost two years from reveal would line up with Uncharted 4. The E3 2014 tease to release was almost two years apart.

Late 2018/Spring 2019 is my guess.

I'd have to agree, and honestly I'm very okay with that window. There's plenty to do in the meantime.

Oh, and Hi GAF! Just validated after returning to the US! Wouldve liked to show you guys our reaction to this games announcement from the middle east. It was awesome, and lifted plenty of spirits.

What basement? Where you are split up from Ellie and have to turn on the generator and as soon as you do a bloater enters? If so I remember dying so much in that area. I always thought I had to kill all of the clickers and the bloater. Turns out when I replayed the game for a third time I simply took the keycard and ran for the door as soon as I powered the generator. I wasted no ammo and completely avoided the enemies.

A little bummed they didn't go with a subtitle

The Last of Us Left Behind was a fun name. They could have continued down the dark road of puns.

Late 2018/Spring 2019 is my guess.

First half of 2019 is my guess.

This game is probably really fucking and ND still have a lot of people working on that Uncharted story DLC. TLOU2 probably wont really kick into high gear for another few months. Then once that happens it will take at least another 2 years depending on how much groundwork has already been done.

Everyone at ND is such a stickler for the tiniest of details.
It's never ceased to amaze from UC1 (when they went realisitc), the guys and girls there are a cut above the rest with this sort of thing.

It's reaaallly easy to dial up the nuance to 11 on a 4 minute trailer, we've seen such things before. As for an 8+ hour game, we'll see.

Subtitles give the impression of prequel or spin off, better to avoid that

Main trailer over at the Playstation YT channel is now at 2.4 million views, but total views inclusive of all the top mirrors/channels hosting the trailer is currently at more than 10 million views.

I mean. You're right.

That said, we have quite a few examples of that attention to detail in their actual games. TLoU Part I was filled with it, as was Uncharted 4. (And 1-3).

I have no reason to doubt they wont skimp on detail here.

Completely agree.

it makes it sound like the planned second part of one continuous story instead of "hey its that thing you liked again!"

you make it sound like that's a bad thing. maybe they never planned a sequel. it was a new IP after all. the game had a good ending but it also left it open for a sequel. i don't know why so many people are against more of it. if i like something then i want more of it. it's only the second game lol it's not like we're on the 4th game or that. a good example would be Uncharted. I felt that over stayed it's welcome. really didn't need 4 games. 3 would've been just fine.

Don't expect stuff like that outside of cutscenes.
They would be wasting their time with superfluous details that no one will notice while playing the game.

One of the best games of all time getting a sequel will get that sort of attention :)

Haha, you got some fiddle skills.

Johnson says "[Ellie has] gone through some shit" re the shaking, with a laugh, so I guess it's all about the aftermath of the stuff which led to the dead bodies and all.

Good for him. Neil Druckmann is more than suited for the job.

Uhm. They worked in partnership on the best ND games. I adore Druckmann but it wasn't all on him. Bruce's remit included making sure everything worked well in gameplay terms. He obviously did a phenomenal job. You want to lose that?

There's clearly more going on, otherwise she wouldn't be so cagey about it if the answer was that obvious. It's actually somebody else that says "she has gone through some shit" and she just repeats it in a rather suspicious manner. :P

I know it's still a long way off, late 2018 or early 2019 I'd guess, but I am wondering what to do about it since I sold my PS4 last month.

A) Buy a new PS4 for just 1 game unless more interesting exclusives come out. By the time Part II comes out then PS5 will most likely be not too far away. The positive here is that I would get to play the game Day 1.

B) Wait for PS5 and hope that it supports true backwards compatibility with PS4 games, that Part II is available on PS Now or that it gets a remastered version just like Part I did for PS4. The negative here would be that I would need to wait until the PS5 and try not have the game spoiled for me.

The ideal situation would be that I can hopefully get a loan of a friends PS4 so I can buy the game to play it Day 1 instead of waiting until I buy a PS5 and it is playable on that.

Uhm, Part II is the subtitle.

I'm sure that poster means a subtitle that gives it more meaning, so as to hint at what's to come. Personally, I prefer "Part II".

Although, for shits and giggles, I like to imagine what a proper (or improper) subtitle would be:

The Last of Us: More Last Than Before
The Last of Us: How Last Are You?
The Last of Us: Last Harder
The Last of Us: If We Are The Last of Us, Are They The Last of Them?
The Last of Us: Last But Not Least: Us
The Last of Us: A Lasting Impression
The Last of Us: Everlast
The Last of Us: Last Call, Joel
The Last of Us: Trump's America
The Last of Us: It's About Ethics in Videogames
The Last of Us: Picking Up Where Some on GAF Said We Shouldn't
The Last of Us: Joel's Dead
The Last of Us: *chuckles*
The Last of Us: Dem Feels
The Last of Us: Season Simulator
The Last of Us: Featuring Nate's Murderous Sister, Ellie
The Last of Us: Ain't Nobody Got Time for Clickers
The Last of Us: The Giraffes Are Dead
The Last of Us: The Somber Guitar Hero
The Last of Us: Su fo Tsal Eht
The Last of Us: Savage Starlight Teaser
The Last of Us: Crunch Time
The Last of Us: A Moral Superior's Worst Nightmare
The Last of Us: Death Simulator
The Last of Us: Again
The Last of Us: Straley's Locked in a Room Upstairs
The Last of Us: I've Seen Some Shit
The Last of Us: So Generic

I know, the thought of it is doing my head in. I just hope I can somehow play it when it launches without having to buy a console that I'm gonna just get rid of when I'm done with the game.

Yeah, objectively speaking, it probably is a bad decision to just buy a console for a single game.

... That being said though, speaking subjectively, I literally bought a PS3 on a whim for TLOU alone, and I don't really feel bad about that decision whatsoever. I did end up playing some more games on it like SOTC/ICO etc, so, are there really no exclusive that exist/are on the horizon that might be to your interest?

I like naming it Part II, though I still thought TLOU ended so well it should have just been left alone and take the game to separate story.

It's also nice to see Ellie resemble Ashley Johnson now.

First thing I noticed when I saw her face.

The shot with the blood dropping down the side of her face - her mouth movements are exactly those of Ashley Johnson's.

It's because they now have tech that can mirror the actors facial movements exactly. During the panel, Neil pointed out that before they wouldn't get closeups of a characters eyes because the tech wasn't there to make it look right. But now they can do that. He also said that Ellie is the most complex character model to come out of any SIE studio.

when the game comes out there will prob be some deals for the Pro, I may upgrade if it is 1080 60fps solid

If it's 1080p/60 I will buy the Pro no doubt, as a predominantly PC gamer I really miss that level of performance when I play console games. If it's like UC4 I'll be happy if they can remove the dips because when UC4 was running at 30fps it felt better than any other 30fps game but it didn't stick to that throughout, the last fight felt so choppy for example.
