The Last of Us Part II announced

Not digging Ellie's design at all. It's funny she looks nothing how i pictured her next gen makeover looking like, especially at 19 years old. Her hair is short and doesn't look right for that age, the tattoo is so out of the blue that it feels trashy for some reason.

That tattoo isn't out of the blue. If you notice she never wore anything but long sleeve shirts or a jacket in the original game. That's because she always had to have her bite covered. If anyone saw it she'd be killed on the spot. By comparison, in Left Behind when she goes out with Rily she's wearing a tank top. The tattoo will allow her to lead a normal life, well as normal as you could possibly have in that world. It's a pretty smart solution for that problem.

Yeah, I really love that. The tattoo is such a clever solution. The additional character insight we get based on the symbols she chose is also a neat touch.

And now that we know its significance it makes the Mondo print so much more meaningful for me now too. At first I just had to have it as a collector, now I stare in awe. You sneaky, sneaky peoples, ND.

Yea, but how young could you make Joel? Early 30's? The time leap in Godfather 2 was so striking because of age and era difference. Young Joel couldn't be that much more different than Joel in the first game.

I can still foresee similarities to the Godfather movies though. In the first movie, Michael Corleone acted organically and out of duty to his family. In the second movie, everything around him crumbled because of his greed and avarice. I can see a similar tragic arc in this sequel with Joel. Especially since Druckmann emphasized that the theme would be "hate."

What would be really interesting from my point of view would be to see/play as Joel in the immediate aftermath of Sarah's death. We can see how he deals with the loss (feeding into the whole hate aspect of Part II) amongst the backdrop of the initial weeks and months of the infection breakout and how he uses hatred and rage to carve his path through what is a dangerous time. His recklessness and lack of caring causes several, near-death out of control moments.

Meeting Tess helps Joel reign in his emotions and accept what has happened.

This whole idea could be used as a symbolic metaphor for Ellie's journey throughout Part II.

It's pretty obvious what he wants her to look like.
You're wrong, its just something that caught my eye, thats it.

No, we don't know what you're talking about. What are you talking about?

Could you be more vague?

Her design's not weird, but your post sure is.

In what way? Looks pretty much exactly like I would have expected.

Well, I'm not sure what you're getting at, do you think she's too tomboyish or something? Why are you beating around the bush? lol
Im being vague cause I dont want to make the wrong impression and get banned or something.
Im talking about the design decision to make her completely flat chested.

I never cared about these kind of stuff, but its definitely something that looked weird to me right away.
Im alone in this right? godammit.

So let me rephrase that a little bit.
I dont care about a breast size of a fictional character in a video game.
I do care about the thought process that went into making her that way.

Well let's think about Ellie as a character. Does she strike you as someone who would put a lot of effort into how she looked? In the first game she makes it pretty clear that she has little interest in such things.

So what thought process do you think they went through to make her look like this?

Edit: I misread your post, even if my point still stands. I somehow completely missed the part about her breast size. :p

Because Skeleseer said so in Left Behind.

Lol this.

Joel always gave me the vibe he could lash out and do something 'bad' to Ellie on a dark and desperate night.

You get a rapist vibe from Joel? I honestly never got that. But I guess people pick up on different things. I remember there was some writer at Gamespot that was convinced that Joel was a drug pusher during the pre-outbreak because he and Sarah live in a nice house and he comes home late.

I could kinda actually see that. The house was pretty damn nice for a single construction worker.

Yeah, I got the impression that Joel was some kind of higher-up in a business. Like, he was talking down to someone about contracts, or something.

Based on his giving up everything to keep her alive, or what ...?

If anything I'd see Joel being an overprotective father to Ellie.

Joel may be a monster, but he seems to have a bit of a soft spot for children. Whenever you come across dead children in the game such as the sewer, the babies grave, and the camper, he always seemed depress. He's probably reminded of Sarah and the things he did as a hunter.

Speaking of Ellie's breasts, (am I treading on some mighty thin ice here?) I think it's safe to say that Naughty Dog has been very deliberate with the character design of Ellie. I think many other developers (not all) would design a 19 year old girl and take the "hot" route, but I think Naughty Dog has consciously taken Ellie's character and design a different direction, and honestly a more realistic one. (We're now 25 years past the fall of society) They didn't want her to look like Lara Croft, and perhaps they wanted to create a character that not only young women in general can relate to, but young women who are not happy with their bodies or feel ostracized because of their body type or sexual orientation. Any time we can get a female lead that isn't some busty scantily-clad one-dimensional character I'd say that shines a positive light on the industry.

I mean, I didn't look at Ellie's character model and think, she's finally legal and damn where are her large bosoms? Why the fuck would I think about that?

I just found him to be quite dark & seedy.

This is a man who was prepared to murder innocent people in order to get what he wanted (the company of a young girl).

He's been through some pretty tough shit and is capable of doing some really awful things.

I just imagined he would have a snapping point because of how messed up his actions and experiences would have made him.

Sarah was the drug pusher. She confessed :P

I mean...the tattoo is there to cover up the bite mark.

And her look is understandable as well.

What game did you play? Because it sure wasn't the game I played.

A snapping point that makes him want to rape a 14 year old girl that reminds him of his daughter?

Not a fan of that hair. What is she a witcher??

(I hope no one made that joke already)
A co-worker of mine wears her hair like that daily.

I like Ellie's current design. She looks just how I'd imagine an older Ellie to look like. She already had little hints of Ashley after her slight redesign due to the "she looks like Ellen Paige!" comments. Now she looks closer to Ashley. :)

What?

First, if he would have snapped, it wouldn't be after losing his daughter and going through literally 20 years of hell.

Second, he didn't murder innocent people in order to get the company of a young girl. I can't imagine that you're doing anything but trolling here, but if you're not... That's some shoddy-ass interpretation of the story.

And lastly, there's nothing pointing towards him being that type of person. In fact, it's laid on pretty thick that he's protective of those he holds close.

The guy is crazy.

Just because you play as him doesn't make him a good person.

we get it, TheMagician

You really wanted to rape Ellie

If I had one, I wouldn't want Joel anywhere near my daughter.

To be honest, I think he would have been fine pre-outbreak but he's a pretty dark character after it.

He murdered doctors which could save the human race just so he could be with her. That's pretty ****ed up.
