The Last of Us Part II announced

I'm not in for this unless ND demonstrate that they will be supporting Factions properly.

No peer to peer, and the tick rate needs to be more than 15! I loved TLOU but I'm a multiplayer guy and Factions was a phenomenal multiplayer experience, but it lacked features that are usually taken for granted, really undermining a very well designed multiplayer game.
^ Damn, everyone ignored this post. :(

I don't think they're going to move away from p2p (due to cost reasons), but improving the netcode is definitely a doable goal.

Too bad 99% of the TLOU fanbase doesn't care about the MP and 99% of the MP fanbase couldn't care less about tickrates...

But yeah, there should be more variety. More gradual changes would be great too, It's not like the infected magically jump from stage to stage. Imagine if there's a sort of clicker-ified infected but you're not quite sure if it can still see or not. Or a half-bloater that's tanky as hell but almost as fast as a runner. That's nightmare fuel right there.

I'd love to see the fungus evolve, as in being able to infect some wildlife now. Imagine a sounder of infected wild boars or a bloter-gorilla you have to escape from..

The last of us was my "comeback to gaming" during 2013, had not owned a console for 2 years at that point and I bought a ps3 with tlou and tomb raider. The setting was cool but it felt a bit too linear for me, almost like a chore at Times (game up TR half way through). The ending chapter was awesome! Will be interesting to see what they Will do for the sequel. Just wished I love the ND games as much as everyone Else..(I do Place J&D 1 high on my list thou)

I killed all the doctors because I was so angry and disappointed.

Second time I just killed the asshole who drew a knife on me.

That one doctor even says shut the fuck up to the other doctor.

That's a good one indeed. However, you can't expect Naughty Dog to make every animal known to the animal kingdom into infected beasts. So if you were to put on a speculative cap what would be the number gap that ND would gravitate to? What animal species would they be apt to go with? Somehow, I don't see elephants or foxes being given the treatment. But something like infected wolves, bears, and deers could make sense in this type of world.

Edit: would wild gorillas roaming the United States make sense in this world?

I didnt know gaf's general thoughts was that Joel is an asshole and a villain. When i played it, i totally understood why he did it, and I'd probably do the same to be honest. Here's why:

- He's attached to her just as much as he was to his daughter. In his eyes she is his daughter. No way he'll let her die.

- she is immune... There's gotta be other people immune somewhere and fuck em, use them instead.

- Selfishness is a curse that everyone has when you have to survive and kill zombies for years. Nothing shocking about his decision tbh

Speaking of Ellie's breasts, (am I treading on some mighty thin ice here?) I think it's safe to say that Naughty Dog has been very deliberate with the character design of Ellie. I think many other developers (not all) would design a 19 year old girl and take the "hot" route, but I think Naughty Dog has consciously taken Ellie's character and design a different direction, and honestly a more realistic one. (We're now 25 years past the fall of society) They didn't want her to look like Lara Croft, and perhaps they wanted to create a character that not only young women in general can relate to, but young women who are not happy with their bodies or feel ostracized because of their body type or sexual orientation. Any time we can get a female lead that isn't some busty scantily-clad one-dimensional character I'd say that shines a positive light on the industry.

I agree with you, ND are absolutely top notch.

Thank god we didn't get an Ellie like this.

Naughty Dog is classy.

Agree. He's a lot more complex

especially if they used the flamethrower.

i remember shooting the first doctor who pulled the scalpel on joel because i was actually afraid he would stab me if i got too close, so i guess i inadvertently ended up doing the more merciful thing. the other two i left alone

I was just about to type that using the flamethrowers on the doctors is hilarious. Probably the best way to kill them. I always kill them all.

I was there for minutes trying to advance the game but nothing happened.
Imo one of the worse designed sequences in the game.

Ahhh a Factions 2 would be amazing! It has got to happen. Played it loads and had so much fun with it.

If they can just make improvements to it but keep the pace/style of gameplay i would play it for ages.

No weapons/perks/maps locked behind DLC please though.

No it designed exactly the way it is supposed to work. Why would you just stand there? The first doctor makes it quite clear that he won't just let you take her so he has to die.

Like I said: *some* wildlife. The fungus taking over everything would be overkill IMO, but it spreading to a couple of species that are tied to humanity would work well IMO. Pig's physiology is not that different from our's, hence they are used in human medical sciences every day. They are also commolny used as lifestock, getting a lot of contact with humans and their pathogens... and out in the wild they eat everything (including infected?) - so it wouldn't be THAT far fetched to assume the infection would spread to them. Plus they can be pretty fucking scary as they are - as infected they could be shityourself-tier videogame enemies.

as for the gorilla: i'm thinking of escaped zoo animals and a infected silverback seems like the perfect candidate for a fast bloater like it was mentioned above. Not a common enemy, but as a one-of-a-kind encounter it could be a real highlight, again IMHO.

Concept art for Part I right?

Would be awesome to see as an enemy in Part II. I think the enemy variety is one of the reasons they are setting the game 5 years after the first one. Leaves time for the Cordyceps to mutate and develop new kinds of infected

EDIT: Also, this reminds me of another amazing game ;)

I just found him to be quite dark & seedy.

This is a man who was prepared to murder innocent people in order to get what he wanted (the company of a young girl).

He's been through some pretty tough shit and is capable of doing some really awful things.

I just imagined he would have a snapping point because of how messed up his actions and experiences would have made him.

This comment says more about you than anything else.
Get help.

I blew away all of those doctors in a fit of rage. Can't say I condemn Joel because his natural reaction was basically in line with mine.

Scene must suck though if you can't relate to Joel.

Christ... Reminds me ofthe alien morphing process from The Thing but nastier. I'm gonna have a very hard time beating the game of they put an enemy like this in a dark basement somewhere...

The basement level in the first game had me shitting my pants. I'm so weak when it comes to horror games :(

Yeah, I'm really dreading that part on Grounded. I will probably die a lot.

Maybe Uncharted 4's multiplayer will be a lesson. Sure people don't care about tickrate, or even know what it is, but they still manage to constantly complain about the symptoms of a low tickrate, the lack of peer to peer. Complains regarding lag, white plugging and other nonsense are incredibly prevalent in the Uncharted community, more so with Uncharted 4 than they've ever been in the series.

You'd be surprised at the popularity of it...there was a big community on PS3 and on PS4. It's the best MP I've played, personally, so I'd be happy with just more of the same; the gaffer was saying "this MP mode was AMAZING but if they don't make a couple of small tweaks I'm not buying the game at all"...hyperbole doesn't really engage.

They should have learned lessons from Remastered and then U4 MP that would improve the netcode so hopefully they do deliver.

EDIT: I guess I'm in the 99% that doesn't care about the tickrate!

Well after reading Neil Druckmann's wikipedia page, I found an interesting quote from him:
While working on The Last of Us, I had this secret agenda: ... I wanted to create one of the coolest, non-sexualized female protagonists, and I felt like with The Last of Us there was an opportunity here to change the industry.

I don't necessarily agree that in order to make a non-sexualized female character you just need to remove her breasts and be done with it. I imagine there are other, more sophisticated and better ways to it.

You mean before killing the first doctor?

It's actually a bit of a problem overall in TLOU. Some encounters get really awkward, almost broken, if you try to deviate from the path ND wants you to take.

For example, the only thing you can do in the sniper encounter is to just walk through the door into the ambush. You can't kill the guy from outside because there's no enemy model there to kill and you can't see the ambush coming because the guy literally isn't in the corner where he jumps from, he spawns there when you walk in.

Another big one is when Ellie gets the rifle and ND really wants her to use it. So if you manage to perfectly sneak kill everyone, new groups with full armor just randomly spawn in.

My first playthrough I didn't even hesitate. That doctor had something shiny in his hand pointed in my direction, so I shot him in the face.
What about the other two cowering in the corner? I'm surprised that so many slaughtered them without hesitation. My Joel is not that vindictive.

We should hop on survivors soon. I think you will love it for the same reasons you like LTS.

I had serious misgivings when I reached that section, so I threw a brick at the doctor's head instead of using a lethal approach. It bounced right off his face, unlike against hardened combatants where it's quite effective. That felt like a missed opportunity by Naughty Dog to allow a slightly different approach to the encounter.

Predictions?

1. Length - I hope again around 15-20 hours
2. Difficulty settings - Easy/Normal/Hard/Survivor/Grounded
3. Trophies - please no MP trophies for Platinum :)

and that you need 2 runs to full update Ellie, her equipments etc.

Maybe they wanted joel to kill him. Joel is not reflective of you and he doesn't have to be. They could have made it a cutscene but it works better if the player does it. I didn't want to kill the boss at the end of mgs3 but snake had to pull that trigger and i'll be damned if that wasn't one of my most thought about gaming moments. Like i said, joel took over and there is now way my el diablo bullets were going to waste. He wasn't going to lose ellie like he lost sarah. Don't hate ND, hate joel. He is a lot more complex than many vg characters

I think the doctor sequence was put there as a check to see if you were on board with Joel or not. It'd be kind of interesting if they got some metrics out of that scene. Like, how long did the player wait after entering the room before attacking the doctor? Did the player kill none, either, or both of the other doctors? And from that you extrapolate some rough notion of how well you told the story based on a ton of player data.

TLOU 1 spoiler

You only have to kill the doctor who is threatening Joel. A lot of people assume you have to kill all of them but you don't (I didn't) which, in my opinion, changes the morality of that particular situation.

They kinda give you an "out" if you don't want to personally kill the doctor blocking your way. Joel will grab the scalpel and stab him in the neck if you walk close enough to him.

AFAIK snake pulls the trigger by himself after some time.
Afair I didn't want to shoot her either.

And a cutscene would have been a hundred times better.

Or they should have made it so the doctor actually attacks you.
But he isn't doing anything.
So why kill him?
He is just a human trying to safe mankind.

I see it like some kinda test to see how invested you were in the characters which is why this is near the end.

On my first playthrough I was angry and sad so I let nothing get in my way. I pulled out my 9mm and gave them one shot the head. That's how my Joel handled the situation.

The point is that Joel would kill him, and you're helpless to stop that. He's a surgeon who was going to operate on Ellie and kill her in the process. And Joel isn't beyond putting a scapel in the neck of someone who's a threat to Ellie. This isn't the same Joel who pleads with people, like seen at the beginning of the game. He's a cruel dude. He kills people because they are better dead than to be an inconvenience.

The entire last segment of The Last of Us is an illustration of how Joel is far from a good dude.

Hmmm, when i played it at launch, OG Mgs3 witout online, i waited for quite a while because i didnt realize the game gave back the controls. Also, i heard the doctor attacks with the scalpel if you wait, is this true?
