Something that occurred to me while reading some reactions:

How does JEJ's Vader sound? Any improvement over his kinda-tired-sounding Rebels portrayal?

Sounds good, though i think Jones age can be heard a bit.

I reckon his portrayal in Rebels is due to direction rather than Jones not bothering, but what do i know.

Just coming from theatre and it blows my expectation. Its way better than the force awakens and i think the closest things to empire strikes back. That ending scene is impressive, most impressive.

Just saw it.

Absolutely loved it.

The only things that brought it down were the awful CG Moff Tarkin and Leia.

Oh, and Vader's one-liner was shit.

Bobby was the Vader voice spot on or off?

There are a couple line readings where you can hear that old-age wheeze sneak in. But it's pretty brief.

If you wanna be super-nitpicky about it though, while the look is pretty much dead on 1977 (yes, robes over armor) the vocal processing is Jedi, not Star Wars.

I'm looking forward to someone compiling a list of stuff in the trailers that didn't make the cut. I don't mourn the loss of the 'I rebel' line, but boy I was looking forward to see Jyn versus Tie Fighter shot on top of the radar dish on the big screen.

Here you go ;)

Mind you, it's entirely possible I simply forgot about one or two of those scenes, so no guarantee. This is what's missing from the trailers as far as I noticed - it's quite a lot:

From Teaser Trailer

0:32 "I rebel"
1:09 Forest Whitaker's whole monologue (he's also wearing a wig in the finished movie as in the later trailers)
1:21 That one action scene with them running (plays out completely different in the finished movie, these characters are never at this place in this configuration. A detail I find really interesting:
You can see Jyn running with the Death Star Plans attached to her belt, the sattelite dish is further back. The reshoots apparently changed a lot about the last act, since there she gets the Plans in the radar dish's building and never takes them outside.
)
1:28 MC looking past camera (not 100% sure)

From Official Trailer #1

0:38 - "Good?" Good."
0:48 "You destroyed our hope!" (not 100% sure)
0:59 "I will not kill you"
1:23 "There is a 97.6 chance of failure"
1:28 "He means well"
1:35 "This is our chance to make a real difference" (not 100% sure)
1:43 Walk on the catwalk, Fighter rising up (scene play out completely different in the movie)
1:56 Vader (seems hard to imagine this awesome shot is missing, so I'm not 100% confident, but I don't remember it from the movie at all and I wouldn't imagine I'd forget it)

From Official Trailer #2

1:15 Vader (see my last point above)
1:16 "The POWAAAH we are dealing with here..."

Yea I'm not going to spoil myself with video or gifs. I don't mind knowing but seeing it is a whole different experience. I gotta see it in a theater with a crowd

I quite liked it myself. Pretty much the reviews were right about the last act. Probably the best action ever in Star Wars. Maybe best looking one as well? First two acts seemed kinda shaky to me, but that may improve on rewatches/discussion.

On topic, I though the Tarkin CG was great. But great just isn't good enough for real, living, breathing people. The discussion about the character in the weeks to come is gonna be interesting. On the other hand the rest of the CG is spot on, with certain shots really calling to mind the models from the OT.

Music was great, Vader was everything I wanted and I'm really happy with the stylistic changes to traditional Star Wars movie.

Awful? Really? I thought it was really good. Both the looks and the voice.

Tarkin certainly wasn't perfect, but I think they did a very good job, Leia was pretty darn good. Saw the movie with 5 other people and I was the only one that even realised Tarkin was CGI and Leia just kinda broke their brains even though they knew she had to be CGI.

Now I just want a new X-wing game, holy crap that space battle stuff.

Speaking of Vader quips, apparently he has a few in books set between EP3 and ANH. Guess he lost the habit just after Rogue One...

My brother didn't notice Tarkin was CG either. I did right away but also appreciated how well it was done. Didn't bother me one bit and it felt really natural in the following scenes.

Why would you spoil yourself? I don't get it.
Gets me more hyped to see it. It has never affected my enjoyment since I want to know how amazing the scene will be. It was for a few seconds so I'll still be surprised when I see the whole thing in another week or so.

Does it really matter? For some it doesn't ruin the experience.
This as well, I've been spoiled by certain movies for years and didn't affect me at all.

Here you go ;)

1:09 Forest Whitaker's whole monologue (he's also wearing a wig in the finished movie as in the later trailers)

He's bald in his first appearance in the film, rescuing young Jyn. So I'm wondering if there was another scene with those two, where she's older? Or something?

0:48 "You destroyed our hope!" (not 100% sure)

I think the line is "they destroyed our home!" and it's not in there.

1:56 Vader (seems hard to imagine this awesome shot is missing, so I'm not 100% confident, but I don't remember it from the movie at all and I wouldn't imagine I'd forget it)

It's kinda in the movie, but not? The camera cranes down as he's coming through the smoke, but it's slower and more deliberate, and I don't think the angle is the same when he finally breaks through.

I wasn't blown away by the movie, but it was entertaining and it fixed some of Force Awakens's problems.

CG Tarkin looked off. They should have used less of him. Some of the other ones were ok, probably cause the were seen in so short scenes.

Can someone link that GIF or vid to the Vader scene? Or is that not allowed?

I'll PM it to you just in case

The acting wasn't that great, and there were a lot of cliche death scenes but it was still alright. I liked the force awakens more than this . Something I really liked is how they actually basically killed every character . This is going to be a trilogy right ? They're not going to magically survive somehow are they?

The sequels are. It's called the Original Trilogy.

It won't have a sequel.

This is a stand-alone film like the upcoming Han Solo film is.

Nobody survived the end. You watched them all die.

This was never going to be anything but a standalone film.

(of all the questions, I don't know that I expected that one. Everyone explicitly dies on screen, and then they get hit by a fucking Death Star blast, and dude's like "this is going to be a trilogy, right?")

You probably already know this but...

In Rebels season 1, Kanan, a ex-jedi padawan, was capture by Tarkin and almost send him to Mustafar, where "they send capture jedi's and never have seen again". Shit, they made Darth Vader a villan livel Sauron/Mordor right now, when you tink it is problaby the most dark place in all Star Wars galaxy. It is scary to tink about what could hapend there, and give more meaning when Dark Vader tell Luke "it is to late for me now".

Wow.

I actually missed that episode, so thanks for sharing!

I have issues with Rebels, but it's nice to see things like that come out of it.

Oh cool. I thought this was going to be a trilogy alternating between the other ones.

I know I saw them all die , but I thought it was going to be a trilogy and the characters would have somehow survived the blast . Sorry I don't keep up with all Star Wars news

Sorry I don't keep up with all Star Wars news

You don't have to keep up with Star Wars news to realize there's not gonna be a sequel when every main and supporting character gets shot to death and/or vaporized by the Death Star on screen.

The main characters are engulfed in pure, blinding destruction, man. That's their exit.

But I'm sure there was some input. I had read Vader was watered down during the reshoots.

there was input, when Kennedy & the creative team took it to Iger and Horn to get that input. But Lucasfilm is not the glove Mickey shoves his hands into when he gets the itch to make a Star Wars movie.

These are Lucasfilm productions. Not Disney ones.

It's funny how nobody just automatically assumes Bob Iger and Alan Horn are muscling Kevin Feige around over at Marvel, or literally pretending he and his creative teams don't exist. Wonder why that is.
