Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

I know his arm got burned in Kigslaive but the dialogue makes it sound like he gained supernatural powers from it, and I wanted to be sure I hadn't missed the explanation.

https://youtu.be/YvD4mzOjwYk?t=2m50s

Well, it's Magitek, and as we know Magitek is basically powered by Daemons. So he gets the strength from it.

Not that it matters much because the arm causes him to mutate into a daemon later on before he does much of anything with it.

Yea, seems like Magitek alone is what gives him his powers. Basically, he's not a normal human anymore or whatever.

It's not really up for interpretation actually. The game made it very clear:

The final defeat of Ardyn does not take place in the afterlife but in the heart of the crystal.
After Noctis gets sucked into the crystal this is what Bahamut explained to him:
"The heart of the crystal, wherein lies the soul of the star. And it is in this place, where the king will gain the power to fulfill his calling. By the light of the crystal and the glaives of rulers' past."
If that wasn't clear enough, the Ardyn defeat takes place in the exact swirl of blue and violett with crystal particles floating around in which Noctis was when he met Bahamut...
It's not only not the afterlife but the bros are also not there in reality when Ardyn is defeated. They are a mere vision of Ardyn. We only see them for a second from Ardyn's point of view. He then shakes his head in agony and they are gone again. It is only Noctis and the former Lucian kings who defeat Ardyn, just as Bahamut foretold. (I think Luna and Regis too were only visions by Ardyn.)
The only afterlife scene in the game (the campfire scene took place before entering Insomnia to confront Ardyn) was the scene of Noctis' and Luna's wedding. Regis was with them (in voice) but none of the bros attended. You would think they were invited if they were dead as well, right? That was also the point of having the bros there in a picture...unless you chose Cindy. ;)

A friend of mine explained it even better:
You can't kill someone in the afterlife, because he would be already dead to be there, duh! :P

Yup yup yup, I don't know why so many people aren't getting this.

Pretty much been like this ever since the point Luna died.

Felt like so many story points/game scenarios got cut for time/cost.

Welp, at least they managed to tie up the ending nicely, despite all the holes in between. And it's thanks to all the work they did building up the bro-love during the in-game moments.

I think the game's a A-; great work on the open world and all the details they put in, too bad on that downwards slide towards the ending. Good job bringing a project on the brink back to life. Good job on being better than FFXIII. I miss Lightning.

-------------
Some random thoughts:

-Great fun traveling the open world on high-level chocobos

-What was the pont of Ignis getting blinded?

-Huh 10 years in prison? Huh?

-Where's the stuff that appeared in the trailers?

-The camera work when warping is.... inadequate and slightly frustrating.

-Also, fuck you game. I didn't put in all those hours grinding, just to get my ass handed to
me every time by monsters at the same level or heck, 10-20 below me. Fuck. The only time I reap the benefits of power levelling is when I face off against small fries like the imperial troopers.

-Only Noctis' face grew old. His build remains the same as his teenage self. Lol wtf. Anyway I like that he sounded older too (though not immediately when we met his older self. Weird)

-Aranea is hot. And she was cool. I was expecting to fight her again and again (FFXV Team: 'Dream on, we don't have that kind of money/time!') but I enjoyed how things turned out. I imagine if they had more resources we would have had the option to join her on some quests.
Which brings me to.....

-Fuckkkkk. I expected to return to the open world one last time to do some power levelling before going to the final boss. WTF!

-Err... this is not a happy ending, you don't get to use FFVIII's ending theme here. I guess that imaginary bit at the end was better than nothing.

Anyone figure out what Cid's old hammer is for? It's obviously something big since it's taken away when you do the NG+ along with the sealed dungeon key.

Love having Aranea back in the party permanently during the end game. She's such a boss!

Really wish there was a way to get in one of the Mechs/Magitech like the turrets in bases.

Just finished beating pitious dungeon.
It's like the perfect dungeon for this game in that it's a weird mix of really good with really bad.

It's really big and I found the level and platforming design to be top tier. I've played lots of puzzle and platforming games that aren't as well designed as this dungeon. Visually, while too dark at times, I also found it really cool.

BUT it was just as much frustrating as it was amazing because neither the movement nor the physics in this game were designed with precision platforming (or anything close to that) in mind.
Going through the dungeon was a mix of amazement and frustration. One moment I was amazed by a new location and the complex way it was designed, the next moment I was thinking about giving up because the games wants me to jump between tiny metal bars with controls that were never ment to be used for that

Also I was expecting at least some sort of spectacle for the ending. A tiny cutscene, some short dialog or at least arriving at some trasure room or something. It's kind of anticlimactic to just ride an elevator to an empty room with the final item on the ground.

Still, I had a lot of fun with this. Much like some of the content in Dragon Age Inquisition I think this is one of the cool parts of the game that will be forgotten in a sea of "all the side content is shit" comments in years to come

That's how I felt about it. Like, so close to being an epic gaming experience, but just too frustrating. Even getting there is really cool:
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii... oh, I lived.

And I just love this picture I got there. Little nondescript building hiding a vast, controller breaking dungeon - and my Chocobo photobombed it.

This entire segment was perfect... except for the completely idiotic decision by Square to interrupt SOMNUS each and every fucking time you're in the proximity of enemies and one of the battle themes starts.

How about letting Somnus play for a few minutes without getting fucking interrupted every 15 seconds?

Zero fan-service. Literally.

This actually would have been a perfect place to keep the field music playing through battle like in FFX's Zanarkand. Damn. Now I'm upset by this.

Just noticed that in the beginning of chapter 11 when Ardyn is walking onto the train after the bros he's quietly humming the chocobo theme. That kinda cracked me up.

1) Ok, I got that much already. But can you explain why the fight begins 1 second after the speech aka all of the citizens are in the city? Am I supposed to assume they magically evacuated 30 seconds later? Or did I miss another "several days later..." transition for this evacuation to have actually taken place?

2) That's what I figured.

3) The empire came in right after Luna finished her speech, then Noctis says "look after the citizens" to Ignis, Prompto says "so... it begins..." and then the very next scene is Luna summoning Leviathan. No transition whatsoever, so if anything it's the game's mistake for not making it clear at all. It makes it seem like the speech and the summoning were moments apart. Mind you I am rewatching the cutscenes right now on Youtube. The game really makes it seem like the speech and the summoning are seconds apart.

The scene transitions from the end of the speech to Luna at the altar summoning Leviathan and beginning the rite. So it's safe to say Luna didn't just teleport there a few seconds later. In the time Luna made her way to the altar, the citizens were evacuated.

Looks like the sealed dungeons are designed by masochists eh? Jesus, I just did the 2nd one and all I can say is SCREW those ice bombs.... and it was super long. I'm gonna have so much fun with the others >.>

Music implementation is wonky in general.

I didn't like how the menu would repeat its music and interrupt music every single time its open.(which happens a LOT)

If they make another game using this engine, every dungeon needs to be a mix of fighting enemies and Pitioss platforming (with better controls).

Because after experiencing Pitioss last night I was like "why the fuck is the rest of the game not like this".

-What was the pont of Ignis getting blinded?
To create some drama between the bros & have some dire consequences because of their reckless actions (not that it prevents Ignis from performing exactly as well in battle as before... >_>; )

-The camera work when warping is.... inadequate and slightly frustrating.
I didn't have any problems with it? It kept up with Noctis pretty well. The camera was a problem with bigger enemies when you got near them and in small spaces, but otherwise it was ok. Could've used some improvements but all-in-all I could still follow the action most of the time.

Noctis isn't a teenager in FFXV.

So question.

When Noctis was absorbed by the crystal? Why did he spent 10 years in it?

Also what did he do in those 10 years? Or did it felt for Noctis it was just some moments later?

The character design always seemed a little funky to me, but that was never really a major reason why I didn't give many a shot. The stigma for me around JRPGs was long and boring. Put that label without even giving them a shot.

As for how I picked up XV (100+ hours later...) it was Gaf mostly. Don't post too often but lurk a lot. I try to read up in every game because you never know. Saw the combat, heard good things about how the game plays and watched a trailer or two. At that point I knew I needed to try it. Like I said before, now I've even watched KingGlaive even. The game definitely drew me in. Even though I thought the story was a little disjointed like most, I think with KingsGlaive it at least made sense. Hoping to get into the other games you guys posted. Seems I've missed some amazing games just due to stupid stigmas.

That is so cool. It's really good to hear that you are now interested in this genre because of this game. I think everyone can agree whether you love or hate the game that something like this is pretty awesome! I look forward to seeing what you think about other JRPGs as you play them! :D

He lost his arm in Kingsglaive from trying to wear the ring. iirc. his arm is Magitek tech or something.

The game does detail that Ravus was injured while in the Crown City and got a "Magitek prosthetic". They bring it up a few times actually.

Wait that random dude from the old trailers is Prompto's father? When was that said in the game? And was he even in the game at all?

I thought he was in one cutscenes near the beginning, when Nifilheim was having their evil meeting.

And tbh I thought Prompto was a robot. I didn't even know he had a biological father!

That part went by so quickly...

I find it weird how the main entrance to Altissa is on the south side, and we go all the away around the city to enter it on the boat when the wide open side is much closer to the mainland.

I remember seeing a map where the entire city as turned around and that entrance made more sense.

This. Always loved those moments in JRPGs because they created such a special mood. The boss-battle in Chronopolis in Chrono Cross comes to my mind, too
best Chrono game, btw
.

The whole pre-leviathon thing is so obviously Ignis's dlc it's painful. Just like Gladiolus is when he excuses himself and Prompto's when he's off the train... But even with those three gaps covered, it's still going to be painful.

Take a nap while the crystal cooked its powers into him

A 10 year nap ...? Well in that case such a huge timegap was a little bit unecessary. The should have made it a couple of months.

---
Loved the game btw, but it's so sad that you see the potential of the story but you have the feeling so much is missing.

With only one hour of extra cutscenes, the game would have been so much better. They should have improved on things like this:

- Flesh out the relationship between Luna and Noctis more. So the impact of her death is much bigger. Make her what Yuna was for Tidus in FFX
- Show more of Jared, he was just a nobody.
- Show a lot more of The Empire. Show more scenes like we saw in Kingslaive. In Kingslaive you really felt The Empire was a dangerous power.
- The could have for example showed an incredible CGI-scene where we see the Empire with a massive army taking down Shiva. That would have not only been cool to see, but it would have really show how dangerous the empire actually is.
- Show some scenes how Ardyn overtook 'The Empire'. Because in the end it felt like only he was The Empire and everything else was gone
- Show what happened to the bro's during the fight in Altissia. How Ignis got blind.
- Show more of Ravus, he also felt like a nobody who suddenly had a big impact on the story.
- Show a scene with the bros after they know Noctis won and died. Show them happy but also very sad. Could have been a very powerful moment.
- Show more scenes that hint to Prompto being born in Niflheim. Now the revelation had no impact at all.
- Show us more after the 10 year absence of Noctis. How did the whole world change. Show us the terrible destruction, so that we know what the stakes are.
- Show the reaction when the bro's suddenly realize Noctis is still alive and there's hope. Now it was just like: 'ow cool you're back, let's go on our journey again like we saw you 5 minutes ago'
- Give us more Ardyn, he was actually a pretty interesting villain. But he needed more backstory. The 6 lines when he talked about his past wasn't enough
- Flesh out Aranea, give her more screentime. Show for example how she leaves The Empire after a fight
- ...

---
I really had the feeling this FF was very short in story in comparison with other iterations. If the above was added in, it could have been actually a quite decent story.

On the Leviathan summoning timeline: what confused me was why didn't they just evacuate the citizens beforehand? Like, they know this is going to happen days in advance, right? Why do a panic evacuation at the last second?

To be fair, Somnus really didn't seem as though it was designed for loop play. So it's a good thing they had a specific battle track for that section, it would have sounded silly after a while.

My issue was that the menu music cancels Somnus. That was dumb.

The main menu music sort of started to get on my nerves. It's actually a great track but every time you even so much as open the menu it interrupts whatever is playing even if you just open the map for 2 seconds. I do recall the music wasn't always overridden by the menu, but I can't recall the specific instances.

Only during battle, and maybe some of the post ch.9 areas. I actually love the menu music, but yeah it's just one of those really small QoL changes that the team overlooked / couldn't get to.

A more serious offense though is the Chocobo music. It's gotten to the point now that i'd so rather listen to the ambiance or my personal music player that I won't even jump on my chocobo unless I have to.

Not being able to play the MP3 player while on the Chocobo was a strange decision IMO.

Wait until you do the 100 floor one...

I stumbled upon it by accident and wanted to kill myself for four hours.

At least Aranea was there by my side the entire time.

Are they all like the keytrich one?

They are all floor after floor of battles, yeah. I think some have a different aesthetic though.
Word of warning though, make sure you stock up on magic. Custards are fucking annoying
Just a quick question...
Are Prompto, Gladio and Ignis dead at the end ?

Up to interpretation, but general thoughts are that it wouldn't make sense thematically if they were.

I agree that Somnus as it is wouldn't have been as natural a fit for being the only piece of music playing; but separate battle music wasn't the best method to resolve it.

An extended arrangement with exploration and battle variants would have been ideal; but failing that a longer single piece which used the Somnus motif and could accomodate both aspects of gameplay tonally; like Dust to Dust, would have also been an improvement.

I'd like to know why Ifrit sided with Ardyn, why Titan was holding up Meteor, why Bahamut has such feminine eyes....I want to know more about the Astrals really: where did they come from and why are they helping us. Where are they getting the Eos timeline from in the guidebook?

wish they went into more specifics about prompto... like wait he's a 'zombie'?

They don't seem to touch on it much, and the anime just had him as a normal fat kid so it felt random?

Sunhi can sell FF15 better then square can with those gifs

lawd

Since my eyes are too weak to tell, i really want to know what exactly he's adding to the gifs to make it look so smooth and sexy.

Because although the game looks amazing when I play it...it's never looked that good lol. those gifs almost look like CG.

It was just as inconsequential as his fatness, ultimately.

The Magitek Troops are made from daemons, the daemons are made from people. A note in the lab stated that human clones were greenlit for use in creating MTs.

So Prompto was likely a clone, who escaped before he could be processed into an MT. That sweatband thing on his wrist (that he has in brotherhood) is just covering up his barcode / identification marker, likely just a tattoo of some sorts.

I think what they are going for is that he is a MT, which are created via cloning in the lab. Vestrael probably screwed up making him and that was why he was so chubby as a kid.

I'd like to know why Ifrit sided with Ardyn,

Ifrit released the same plague that partly caused Ardyn's eventual decent:
Ifrit is a hostile Astral who played an important role in Eos's history. In the Old Calendar Era, he betrayed the rest of his kind and caused the downfall of Solheim. Ifrit began the Great War of Old; this killed millions of people when a parasite turned them all into daemons.
In the end they both hated humanity and the gods.

why Titan was holding up Meteor,
It's just some rock that fell to Eos he decided to catch it and then decided to sleep while holding it

why Bahamut has such feminine eyes....I want to know more about the Astrals really: where did they come from and why are they helping us. Where are they getting the Eos timeline from in the guidebook?
Bahamut could be more human, like Ifrit. Not sure.
Alot of this stuff is in the guidebook or wiki's
