Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

Hell, XIII had a great (sometimes too great) codex.

I think that the whole "A Final Fantasy for new players and old fans" had an impact in how much story they gave you, maybe they thought info dumps would be a turnoff for new players?

XIII's codex was so great that the players are just supposed to know what Fal'cie L'cie or whatever mumbo jumbo the characters speak of right off the bat since "why aren't you reading the codex, you fool?"

It even spoiled the game for me, in Chapter 11 (I think, when the game opens up) I went a little too far in one direction and the game thought I had reached a certain point in the story so the codex started telling me all these spoilers. It was both funny and infuriating.

from Tabata:

I'm hoping that whatever cutscenes they plan to patch in were partly done. The details on anything surrounding Ravus alone seems like alot of work. ugh

It's a good thing they still want to improve the game after it's released, I guess.

I'm excited to see how FFVIIR and the next FF will turn out now that they have finally laid down this foundation for nextgen FFs.

Beat the game a couple of days ago. Overall I really liked it, super ambitious game with some really good shit in it. I understand all of the plot and have watched the movie and anime so Im not missing out on anything crucial (although I guess having just learned the extent of Ifrits involvement would contradict that statement, haha). In my top 5 or so list for FF games. Great.

Yeah I still rate it highly due to what they achieved. Also thank you for including the JP voice track and subtitles, you beautiful bastards. I'm grateful I got to watch that post-credit campfire scene in the original voice.

You kinda can make that a legit head-canon if you choose Noctis to bring a picture of Cindy/Iris/Aranea with him to the afterlife, lol.

I was JUST about to ask this question, haha. I really wanted to choose that sneak-shot of Aranea. What comments do you get if you do so?

Sometimes I really yearn for Final Fantasy to just return to the old style of Final Fantasy storytelling, like "4 crystals guard the world evil guy want the crystal and you must stop them" instead of this whole Fal'cie or Oracle or Astrals or whatever.

Plenty straightforward, simple, and to the point, since sometimes I doubt the current minds of the storyteller in Square is capable of adhering to coherency once things go beyond "simple" and "straightforward".

I don't know, but someone here in GAF actually make the Cup Noodle pic as his chosen pic, lol. You should ask him XD

Well that's Bravely Default for the first two thirds of the game. And then it becomes a batshit meta tale that's all about deconstructing FF.

Man, I really enjoyed the combat, open world, and the bros, but I am in awe of how they bullshitted the plot so hard. I honestly can't process what happened for the majority of the plot. And I watched most of Kingsglaive and Brotherhood, too.

There's just so much off-screen stuff that happens, it feels like a straight-to-DVD budget cut type of thing. It almost feels like false advertising to me, but to a lesser extent.

-Why not show Ignis get his eyes cut off in front of Noctis? Would've had way more impact on the story.

-WTF happened to the Imperial leader and that other crowned guy? They seriously just turn him into a daemon so they can just wipe him away from the plot.

-Aranea was badass and and that first fight was epic, then she just becomes all goody-goody.

-We barely see Ravus throughout the game and he just shows up all fucked up and stuff and we have to kill him off. Was looking forward to him being more of a Seymour-type villain or at least some more interaction with him so that when I saw him all fucked up, I could feel something.

-The whole Leviathan level was a letdown compared to what we saw in trailers before. I know this game is completely different from what was shown in that trailer you're going to keep the scene in, don't downgrade it like that. They had no reason not to make this part a little longer and more epic, especially with how much Chapter 13 dragged on.

-The final battle was a HUGE letdown for me. Easy as fuck and then it goes into that god-awful DBZ tenkaichi mode where I was just spamming circle. Compared to the iconic Final Fantasy final bosses of the past, this one was just lazy. I did like the Ifrit fight, however. I honestly would have been fine if that was the final boss instead.

All in all, I still feel like this was too rushed to come out. I'm glad I got to play it, and had a blast with the first few chapters, but part of me wishes Nomura would've stayed with the project just to see a more fleshed out story. For me, story is probably the most important thing I look forward to in FF games, and they've had a good record with their cutscenes and cinematics since FFVII.

I want a little more than the setup of Famicom FF plots... something along the lines of FFVI. There is an aggressive Empire, you rebel against them for a time. But then a previously minor bad guy steals a larger celestial power and terrorizes the world.

But then I realize that's exactly the intention of FFXV lol.

Airy Lies

Literally taking the FF out of the game ;)

XV has a lot of VI homages that they make with love, but they don't quite understand why they originally worked so they fall flat. World of Ruin, Ardyn the 'jester', the empire/magitek, etc.

No, it needs to be clear with the storytelling. I picked up on the Emperor part but it was by no means well done or obvious.

The game telegraphs characters as if they're important and then they get dropped after one or two scenes. That's just poor form.

No amount of codex will make up for proper storytelling, but when you realize you couldn't fit a load of things in game, at least a codex would be nice.

Like Verstael being Prompto's father. It was completely omitted from the game's storytelling, though the lore remains true.

I mean yeah, you're right. It's less of a failure in storytelling if at least people can figure out everything in the game through reading instead of having to go online or watch other media.

Questions I have towards the game up to Chapter 12: (If a post of this length is unacceptable to NeoGAF terms, please let me know and I will delete it!)

1. How was Glauca aka Drautos able to work for both Lucis and Niflheim? Like seriously, how is that possible? Would he secretly drive from Lucis to Niflheim every day?

2. What is his suit made out of? How is he able to magically take it on and off?

3. In Kingsglaive why was there not a single mention of Luna being an oracle? And why was she so reckless when she had yet to awaken all the summons... that's her role right? And her entire life revolves around her duty right? They didn't touch up on her powers as oracle at all

4. What is the ****ing structure of Niflheim? All we get after Kingsglaive is that "evil meeting"

5. Why would Regis trick Noctis on the real situation to the point where all he gives Noctis is 3 of his FRIENDS (only one of which has suitable combat experience) and a car? There's hiding the truth and there's being stupid.

6. So in Kingsglaive, we see that the wall shatters, and the entire city is destroyed because of airships blowing up the city and skyscraper-sized gods and demons are battling it out. The game takes place in modern times. Noctis is literally around 3 miles away. You're telling me Noctis had to find out that Insomnia fell through a ****ing newspaper?

7. Cor's role in the story makes zero sense. Why wasn't he in Kingsglaive? Why doesn't he accompany Noctis for more than 5 seconds? He clearly isn't that productive, since we see him just sitting around in Cape Caem during Luna's speech. He apologizes for not being there for your father.... ok, so why don't you help Noctis out? You can tell Cor had an actual role, they scrapped it, and then they had no idea what to do with him.

8. So what's the extent of communication in this world? It seems like they only get calls and texts when it's convenient for the plot. And Noctis never makes phone calls himself.

9. Why does Luna not have a cellphone? If it's due to the fact that it's "easier for Niflheim to track her down," you could say the same thing about Noctis. They have his home now, after all.

10. How does Ardyn follow them everywhere without getting caught? No airship in sight? And after Chapter 4, if he traveled by car, you'd think the party would recognize his car or something.

11. How did Ardyn somehow know Noctis would have visions, and that he'd want to view the meteor? In fact, how is Ardyn tracking Noctis? How is he able to know he's going to be in the Vesperpool?

12. Why was Prompto defending Ardyn after he opened up a Niflheim border gate and Niflheim ships were literally right on the other side?

13. How in the **** did Ignis recognize "Chancellor Izunia" but not the name Ardyn?

14. You'd think that if Ardyn was going to use an alias until his "big reveal" he wouldn't use his real first name.

BONUS 14. Am I supposed to think that Ardyn picked up Noctis and co., they didn't say a word to each other, then he just dropped them off and said "bye, now!" and took his car?

15. How does the whole "killing an Archaean/but they're still alive afterwards to summon" thing work?

BONUS 15. Why would they not take Cindy's replacement car? Who ****ing cares about the Regalia? What's occurring in the background of the story seems urgent. They shouldn't have time to say no to at least a temp car.

16. What in the **** was Gentiana's relationship with Luna? She's seen in House Fleuret numerous times and has a scene with Luna but she's nowhere to be ****ing found when Luna is STABBED?

17. What is the extent of teleportation for Umbra/Pryna/Gentiana? It seems like they don't really have a limit. So can't he give messages to Luna and Noctis back and forth almost instantaneously, like text messages? And have them meet up?

18. How/when does Luna get captured by Niflheim again, after escaping Insomnia? Again, why doesn't Gentiana help her?
19. Why is Noctis so casual about Gladiolus randomly leaving the party? It is absolutely something that would need to be thoroughly discussed.

20. Why does no one even make a "hey you just tried killing us the other day" comment towards Aranea? I get that she's a mercenary, but that doesn't excuse the sheer awkwardness.

21. Extremely unrealistic that she'd somehow stop in the middle of an insanely intense fight because her "shift" is essentially over and she doesn't work off-the-clock. Wouldn't it still be in her interest to incapacitate Noctis? If she was being this indecisive over her position, she wouldn't attack Noctis with such passion.

22. Why do Gladio and Iris not mention their father's death, ever?

23. Why are Noctis and co. so casual about Gladio returning?

24. How does the Vesperpool work? How are you underwater but breathing? What is causing this to be possible, and what is the purpose?

25. What was the point of Niflheim troops bursting through the door pointing their guns at Luna? Dramatic trailer footage I suppose.

26. Camelia made it a deal to have her citizens evacuated. So, please tell me, why is it that right after Luna's speech, literally RIGHT after, the empire draws in, and Luna immediately begins the summoning? You're telling me they evacuated all of Altissia in like, less than an hour, with the help of only Ignis, Prompto, and Gladiolus? How?

27. Why would Ardyn stab Luna? Isn't his goal to fight Noctis at full power? Him injuring Luna and being a major factor in her death only hinders that. And again... WHERE IS GENTIANA????

28. How is Ardyn able to directly **** with Noctis' mind?

29. Why is Prompto so casual about Noctis trying to kill him? Along with the people on the train?

30. You're telling me the train just "happened" to stop by a place where there's one of the super rare Royal Arms? Amazing coincidence?

XV has a lot of VI homages that they make with love, but they don't quite understand why they originally worked so they fall flat. World of Ruin, Ardyn the 'jester', the empire/magitek, etc.

Very true.

I think it was just the matter that the game was rushed to meet a real deadline, and fell short of their original ambitions.

I believe Tabata's favourite FF was VI. I'm sure he "gets" that game. I think he wanted XV to be the next gen version of that... but then reality set in and they were forced to take the pieces of their greater plan and pare it down into something they could sell by holiday 2016.

That XV World of Ruin, for example... Square invoking that concept again. They KNOW that hinted at the last 1/2 to 1/3rd of FFVI. I'm sure their original plans were to make it a sizeable chunk of the game. But as deadline approached, they could keep only the bare minimum of that concept. 2 or 3 areas... a token nod to the concept of a world transformed.

World of ruin couldve worked
If you actually get to see more of it, and for longer

That initial introduction to it was quite frightening and effective. But with the general feel of XV being a rushed hodgepodge of a greater plan, I don't think many of us were that surprised when Talcott showed up and was like "lemme rush to the one place you can stop before you're rushed to the end game....".

It's an open world game. I bet there was once ambition to have an open world of ruin.... 1/3rd of Lucis, if not more.

Imagine you find Iris, Cor, CID, Cidney, Aranea, Weskam, Talcot in the WoR and they help you to take back the thone.

I hope someone is able to answer some of what theofficefan put up. Haha

I still kinda miffed that the very first person that you see on the world of ruin is Talcott, for God sakes. TALCOTT

Why not someone like Cindy or Iris? ESPECIALLY since they teased that Iris has become a fearsome daemon hunter, she could just appear there helping Noct fight something or anything, but noooooooooo, we gotta see TALCOTT.

Questions I have towards the game up to Chapter 12: (If a post of this length is unacceptable to NeoGAF terms, please let me know and I will delete it!)

Some of what you ask about is explained, most isn't. Pointing out which is which is kind of spoilery though, so I don't know if you want them answered.

That Iris tease was cruel.

It makes sense. He's a link to Jared, the central character of Final Fantasy XV.

I have noticed a pattern in all of Tabata's Final Fantasy games and not just
tragic endings
. FFXV and Type-0 are especially similar in how their stories are delivered. So much stuff happens off screen or is badly explained. It's all very disjointed and has an air of rushed development, especially in FFXV's case.

If you can't find successful ways to explain or show important plot elements, you are doing something wrong. Whether it's through cutscenes, extensive dialogue or heaven forbidden an actual gameplay segment, if the story being told isn't being delivered effectively, you should do some serious rethinking or go back to the drawing board entirely. Also I am not against hands off storytelling ala Souls series, Team ICO etc. But games like this that already have story telling at the forefront and as a driving force for your actions should be more coherent.

In saying all that, I did enjoy both Type0 and XV, as well as Crisis Core. Despite their many flaws I think Tabata has potential but needs to change some fundemental ways in which he develops his games.

Plenty of important shit happened offscreen in Crisis Core and 3rd Birthday too. His style is just tragic, I don't think he has good directorial chops when it comes to telling a full, cohesive story. And FF15 is missing the codex/datalog to further explain things that Type-0 had.

I also think SE needs to stop with this multimedia bullshit. FFXIII series had lots of novels with plot points, but it wasn't nearly as bad as having a shit movie and anime being required viewing. SE just seems to suck terribly when trying to expand a game's universe to other ventures, but at least FFVII and FFX had their story told in-game before the multimedia bullshit began later on.

Go for it

Ok. Be advised I have a poor memory when it comes to some of the details you're citing.

1. How was Glauca aka Drautos able to work for both Lucis and Niflheim? Like seriously, how is that possible? Would he secretly drive from Lucis to Niflheim every day?

I think that the idea was he was working for Lucis and defected along with a lot of the Kingsglaive, not that he was actively working for the empire in Niflheim.

2. What is his suit made out of? How is he able to magically take it on and off?

Idk. Magic?

3. In Kingsglaive why was there not a single mention of Luna being an oracle? And why was she so reckless when she had yet to awaken all the summons... that's her role right? And her entire life revolves around her duty right? They didn't touch up on her powers as oracle at all

I thought there was talk of her being an oracle in that movie, especially in the early scenes explaining her past. Regardless, I don't think it explains why she's so reckless there.

4. What is the ****ing structure of Niflheim? All we get after Kingsglaive is that "evil meeting"

Not sure what you mean by structure. Like, the power structure of the leadership? Pretty sure Tabata explained it in one of those updates a while ago, but the game doesn't really get into it because
it's not that important for the plot/this game is not good at the whole backstory thing.

5. Why would Regis trick Noctis on the real situation to the point where all he gives Noctis is 3 of his FRIENDS (only one of which has suitable combat experience) and a car? There's hiding the truth and there's being stupid.

If this is you saying Cor should've gone with, I agree.

I mean, you can see that the city is decently far away in the game when you go to that cliffside where you see Insomnia on the horizon. I don't think it's that implausible for word to arrive of the invasion through the next day's news.

Yeah. They were probably too afraid to cut him cause they'd already shown him off or he was a serious victim of plot/story cuts in the final year. So instead he's just kind of there being useless.

8. So what's the extent of communication in this world? It seems like they only get calls and texts when it's convenient for the plot. And Noctis never makes phone calls himself.

Cell phones exist. That's not hard to put together. What is hard to put together is...

9. Why does Luna not have a cellphone? If it's due to the fact that it's "easier for Niflheim to track her down," you could say the same thing about Noctis. They have his home now, after all.

...this. You could probably come up with some reasoning about them both being busy or something, but that doesn't really work or explain why they still felt the need to communicate by dog.

Questions about Ardyn should probably wait until you're done with the game. As of right now, I think you know that he's a man of influence and power that could probably get to places he wants to pretty easily.

12. Why was Prompto defending Ardyn after he opened up a Niflheim border gate and Niflheim ships were literally right on the other side?

I'll be honest. I don't remember this detail.

13. How in the **** did Ignis recognize "Chancellor Izunia" but not the name Ardyn?

Is it that preposterous that someone would recognize "President Obama" but not recognize a weird dude who you encountered once who introduced himself as "Barack?" I don't think so. The whole thing that bothered me about that was Iggy apparently never seeing a photo or video of the man.

14. You'd think that if Ardyn was going to use an alias until his "big reveal" he wouldn't use his real first name.

I'm not sure he was that set on hiding his identity from the crew.

BONUS 14. Am I supposed to think that Ardyn picked up Noctis and co., they didn't say a word to each other, then he just dropped them off and said "bye, now!" and took his car?

I'll be honest. I don't remember this detail.

15. How does the whole "killing an Archaean/but they're still alive afterwards to summon" thing work?

They've done this a bunch in previous Final Fantasy's too. I think they try to explain it with the tokens of power you get from them or something? Also I think the Oracle's role is involved somehow. I'm not sure if I just don't remember or it never was explained in detail.

BONUS 15. Why would they not take Cindy's replacement car? Who ****ing cares about the Regalia? What's occurring in the background of the story seems urgent. They shouldn't have time to say no to at least a temp car.

When was this?

16. What in the **** was Gentiana's relationship with Luna? She's seen in House Fleuret numerous times and has a scene with Luna but she's nowhere to be ****ing found when Luna is STABBED?

I thought Gen's role is explained by the part of the story you're in, but I guess not. There's more information they haven't given you about her character yet.

17. What is the extent of teleportation for Umbra/Pryna/Gentiana? It seems like they don't really have a limit. So can't he give messages to Luna and Noctis back and forth almost instantaneously, like text messages? And have them meet up?

Were Umbra/Pryna shown with the ability to teleport? I don't remember that.

And yeah, hold off on Gen questions for a bit. But much like the Luna cell phone question, I don't think this ever gets answered satisfactorily.

18. How/when does Luna get captured by Niflheim again, after escaping Insomnia? Again, why doesn't Gentiana help her?

They capture her at some point in Altissia I think. I wasn't really super clear on the timeline of that whole chapter. As you point out later, it's a bit disjointed.

19. Why is Noctis so casual about Gladiolus randomly leaving the party? It is absolutely something that would need to be thoroughly discussed.

Because DLC baby!

20. Why does no one even make a "hey you just tried killing us the other day" comment towards Aranea? I get that she's a mercenary, but that doesn't excuse the sheer awkwardness.

I seem to recall some awkward/tense dialog between the party and her when she joins up. None of the guys seem the type to directly call her out though, with the exception of Gladio.

Ok.

22. Why do Gladio and Iris not mention their father's death, ever?

Because this game doesn't deal with backstory very well.

23. Why are Noctis and co. so casual about Gladio returning?

Because DLC baby!

24. How does the Vesperpool work? How are you underwater but breathing? What is causing this to be possible, and what is the purpose?

Magic?

25. What was the point of Niflheim troops bursting through the door pointing their guns at Luna? Dramatic trailer footage I suppose.

You answered your own question, I suspect. There's also the fact that the Empire wanted to make sure she summoned Leviathan, so making a show of force might be an attempt to intimidate her into complying (which she was going to anyway.)

How?

Yeah, the timeline of the whole Altissia chapter seems really disjointed. I suspect this was heavily affected by cuts.

27. Why would Ardyn stab Luna? Isn't his goal to fight Noctis at full power? Him injuring Luna and being a major factor in her death only hinders that. And again... WHERE IS GENTIANA????

This is another thing where you're gonna have to wait.

28. How is Ardyn able to directly **** with Noctis' mind?

And another.

...I think.

29. Why is Prompto so casual about Noctis trying to kill him? Along with the people on the train?

The people on the train? No idea. Prompto? He seemed pretty freaked out.

30. You're telling me the train just "happened" to stop by a place where there's one of the super rare Royal Arms? Amazing coincidence?

Yup.

The sole heir of Lucis, their future king, should've been equipped with better information protocol. Particularly because we were shown that he has a cellphone, which ironically never used for any hunts or sidequest completion.

But then again, the promise of the game is sending a Prince with minimal protection but his bros on a road trip to his own marriage. Somewhere along the production the story got really messed up (I think we were supposed to see Insomnia invasion in Noctis's eye before it was relegated to Kingsglaive?) so they had to sew all these loose points into something.

You know, up until the final fight with Ardyn, I was absolutely convinced that his master plan was to use the crisis he had manufactured to unify the power of the Kings and Astrals into Noctis, who Ardyn felt was too weak to handle the power and responsibility, and then exploit that weakness to banish Noctis (and the power he had accrued) within the crystal indefinitely. Ardyn clearly didn't think Noctis would survive a confrontation with Bahamut and Ardyn clearly didn't think the power of the Ring of the Lucii posed any threat. Meanwhile, killing Luna ended the line of Oracles and their power, as well as further demoralized Noctis.

But then the final fight happened and Ardyn said he had been looking forward to the fight with Noctis all along and I just threw my hands up with a "fuck it, I stop trying to figure it out".

I'm looking at Sunhi's gifs...I thought Insomnia wasn't based on Tokyo anymore? I see a bunch of Japanese text everywhere in Insomnia. Or was that a mistranslation?

I remember Nozue or someone saying for Kingsglaive they wanted it to have a culturally agnostic look (like a metropolitan city that could be anywhere) but in the game, Chapter 14 it is decidedly Japanese looking. Lots of Japanese signs (and many, many FF references in them)

Isn't the meteor what brought the Starscourge to Eos?

Nothing I've read suggests that. The plague is like one of the first things to happen in Eos

Yes the guidebook was helpful in explaining this but I am very disappointed this was not in game for us loremongers to find. Big oversight in my opinion, especially since the Starscourge is so important.

Now you see, Ifrit being the one that caused the Starscourge should have been explained in the game proper. It should be an information that you can get while playing the game, not when you read a guidebook or something. And since that information is important, it should have been placed in a place where the player is guaranteed to come across it.

lmao. I did not even know he was the cause of the starscourage. Holy shit SE

Actually, meteor is indeed the cause that brought the starscourge (and not Ifrit). This information is missing in the English translation as I figured out.
I made a reddit-post about this.

So annoying that hardly anything is properly explained in the game. :/ It would have so much more impact if we knew more about the meteor/crater when we actually were around it. Would it be so difficult to have Ignis say one more sentence about it when he talked about it anyway.
Now it all makes sense. So that's why Titan was beneath it holding it up all this time. As one of the gods more fond of humans he must have tried to save Eos from the impact and complete contamination.

So a meteor brings with it a organic lifeform capable of turning people into twisted monsters? Hm, seen this somewhere before

Where does the meteor even go once Titan is killed.

edit: Lol, isn't Lestallum crushing meteor shards for heat? Probably spread the infection around even more. Exineris confirmed for antagonist after all.

I don't think Exineris is crushing shards. I think they are using the large amount of shards around the powerplant to do what we basically do with coal but removing the initial step. Its probably more to do with using the heat to generate steam than it is anything else. lol

Edit: So I've been raking my brain trying to figure out how the parasites could blot out the sun AND create hosts sensitive to it. They I figured that its not about the UV or the light itself. It could very well be that Vitamin D3 that causes the sensitivity rather than the light itself. If each daemon is created from humans and animals, then they'd probably still develop the vitamin under UV.

idk I'm overthinking it. Just knowing its not 100% improbable of an explanation is enough for me. lol.

Technically FFXIII was about the Crystals giving the good hero role to the heroes of the games. Only the Crystals in XIII are assholes and that "role" they gave to the heroes are the cursed, "looked down on" role.

They are just using the heat from the rocks as power. Or at least that is what they say. It does look like the rocks are getting crushed in the plant but that could just be normal, non magic disease kind. Like how you give them the mythril ore and they process it.

Pretty sure all of FNC (though I haven't played type-0) is about Crystals and Gods just being the worst of dicks.

It's the same in Type-0. The crystals and
allmighty beings
have their own interests and don't care for each individual, but are dependent to them.
Altough it could be that they love mankind and the folk as whole, but I don't know.

It's an interesting concept alright. Too bad XIII didn't execute it well.

I'd like to see the reverse next time. You're the Crystals looking for the heroes lol.

really? Did Ifrit summon the meteor though?

they are the worst. Even the one that likes humans causes horrible damage trying to help.

Yes, in the German translation it's been indeed explained like this. Although we need to check the Japanese translation if it's really canon as there's a small chance that it could be a mistranslation. But someone told me that it's also stated in the French translation.

Did Ifrit summon the meteor though?

That's one of the theories that I discuss with people. It could indeed be that Ifrit summoned it. I personally thing that this is not the case though.
I think that the scourge actually started the war between the gods as they have differents interests (saving mankind from the plague vs. let them suffer and die in the doom). And since the parasites are from outside of Eos (aliens), the gods couldn't really handle it and save magically the mankind immediately (since they are also beings of Eos). But this is only a theory! I could be totally wrong. The downside of this theory would be that the war would actually have no greater importance in the greater picture. The outcome would be the same, with or without a war.

I hope that Ultimania or the DLCs give us more information.

What happened to Pryna anyway?
Pryna died, atleast it's stated so in the German translation. The servant in Tennebrea says something like "as Luna passed, Pryna had also to die". But it isn't explained exactly why.
I think as Pryna and Umbra are some kind of saintly beings, Pryna's duty was to be with Luna and when Luna dies, she will also die. But again, it's just a theory :P

Now you see, Ifrit being the one that caused the Starscourge should have been explained in the game proper. It should be an information that you can get while playing the game, not when you read a guidebook or something. And since that information is important, it should have been placed in a place where the player is guaranteed to come across it.

As it is right now, it seems like Ifrit is like just a random boss who played second fiddle to Ardyn.

Sigh... this game.

I still don't get Pryna dying but not Umbra. Unless Umbra also died and him showing up at save points post Luna death is just non-canon. Pryna and Umbra are both magical messenger dogs and both tied to Luna. There isn't any indication that Umbra is linked to Noctis or his messenger or anything, other than he is black and Noctis wears black and has black hair. Umbra and Pryna are shown together with Luna all the time, except that time in Brotherhood when baby Pryna somehow ends up in the suburbs of Insomnia and stays with chubby Prompto who must've just escaped from Nilfgard fat camp.

18. How/when does Luna get captured by Niflheim again, after escaping Insomnia? Again, why doesn't Gentiana help her?

IIRK, the empire didn't capture Luna. Altissia is owned by Niflheim, so she went into their territory. But in a radio report, Camilla says that Luna is under her protection respectively was granted asyl.

22. Why do Gladio and Iris not mention their father's death, ever?

IIRK, in the German translation, Gladio comments slightly about this. After his first phone call with Iris, one of the bros says somethink like"I'm very glad that Iris is safe" and then Gladio replies with "but it doesn't look like that everyone was lucky like her".
But yeah, they really don't go deeply on this topic.

30. You're telling me the train just "happened" to stop by a place where there's one of the super rare Royal Arms? Amazing coincidence?

It's explained in one of the download screens. Someone (I don't remember if it's Cid or Cor) told them that there is one of the Royal Arms. Camilla ordered the train conductor to stop at this station (what it normally wouldn't for normal passengers) and to wait there until the four guys accomplished their task.

I had to wrestle my teammates out of a room in costlemark.... All 3 got stuck on a floor tile and I only realized when they weren't helping fight a couple battles.
