Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

Oh Cor, there's another character I thought would amount to something. Then uhhh he came back before the boat trip to take a photo I guess.

hi, i read it but don't understand why noctis has to die in the process to kill him.

and reading the link that Ardyn wins in almost every way, what happened when luna grabs him in death. so he dies while he's dead? he seemed surprised and didn't seem like he won but erased.

There's some important stuff that guy left out of his explanation. The LARGEST reason that Ardyn helps Noctis along and ultimately guides him into the crystal is because it is required to fully power up the Ring of Lucis with light. By allowing Noctis to absorb all the power into the ring it would:

1. Allow Ardyn to kill the last of the Lucian line AND wipe out the light of the crystal or at least rid of the ring in one stroke. This is revenge against the gods for forsaking him and casting him off as unworthy as well as ridding of the only means of purging the deamons and the darkness.

2. Grant Noctis the power to end Ardyn's life. As the article said, Ardyn wanted to end his cursed immortal life and finally move on and better yet, even if Ardyn loses the battle to Noctis (which he obviously does) in order to wipe Ardyn out completely and from the afterlife, Noctis must wield the full power of the ring that the crystal provided and such power is what requires Noctis to sacrifice his life. This means the Lucian line ends either way and I think in the event Ardyn defeated Noctis in battle, Ardyn also would have been alright to a lesser degree ruling the world of darkness. He'd at least have wiped out the Lucian line and obtained revenge on the people and gods of the world.

Back to the sacrifice, Bahamut tells Noctis that this ultimate power provided by the crystal will end his life when wielded. You just have to assume it's too much power for a mortal to handle or that the spirits won't provide their assistance unless he joins them. I prefer the former.

Getting to bed but hope that clears things up for you.

Sad thing is they never showed his newly acquired "Powers" in the fight against Ardyn

So I figure I'll give my level 1 playthrough progress reports here.

Finished chapter 2. Loqi wasn't particularly difficult, but I've learned how to dodge roll efficiently. Figured out that I can confidently take out some level 20+ enemies assuming I have enough time, like that one scorpion (only used 1 item on that fight).

So far its been interesting and good fun. Doing some level 17 hunts can be tricky but if you know how to dodge its fun. Since I'm not the type to item spam, I've been having to be very tricky with my tactics, techs, and timing + positioning. Link sticks are more important than ever with my low damage output. I need to get those 2 and 3 accessory slots asap.

Later chapters are gonna be hell. So far so good!

Seems like you should probably scrape together some money and visit the Guardian HQ asap to get strong weapons?

I'll have to find where I read this but somewhere said that the Japanese script is different and what Ardyn says isn't so vague. I'll have to find it to be sure but in Japanese it's basically clear that Ardyn is actually Noctis' distant ancestor. Who knows at this point
Can anyone verify this? I'd REALLY like to know if this is true.

There's gotta be someone who knows more.

I'll definitely see what they have after I'm done getting a chocobo (deadeye at level 1 might be tricky lol)

They have the strongest weapons you can buy, and I don't think there's much better you can get for a very long time or without trying to cheese dungeons.

Oh I know what they sell, I just wasn't sure they were available at chapter 3. As it turns out they are. Hurray!

That said, they're like 10,000 gil a pop so I can only really get one. Probably gonna go with the sword first.

Thank you for this fantastic text! It was really a joy to read this :D.
There are 2 details that are missing. I figured out these are not in the English translation of the game, but are mentioned in the German translation (but I don't know how it's in Japanese, the true canon version):

1) Ardyn mentions that the parasites/the starscourge actually come from the meteor (hence the name starscourge, I guess?)
Actually, meteor is indeed the cause that brought the starscourge (and not Ifrit). This information is missing in the English translation as I figured out.
I made a reddit-post about this.
If there is a connection between Ifrit and the meteor, I don't know.

2) The jealous king also ordered to kill Ardyn in addition (thus, the betrayal towards Ardyn is even bigger and his hatred towards the Izunias(?) is more comprehensible)

Okay so upon getting that light sword at Hunter HQ, I decided to try out a level 29 hunt at my measly level 1.

Mistake to a high degree, but not for the reason you'd thing.

Sure they hit hard, but I expected that, there are 2 problems with this fucking fight (yes I'm seriously frustrated).

1: Understandably, they are VERY hard to hit with my current armory and ability set. Basically pistols and Piercer and maybe a lucking warpstrike or 2. They hit hard and are hard to hit. Basically I should get back to these things only when I get Osmostrike and airdance.

2: (NOW THIS I FUCKING HATE. I've hated this in the main game my 100 odd hours in, but this fight made me downright livid about it) Zoning in this game is fucking BULLSHIT. An enemy should NOT be able to exit the battle area and I should NOT be able to warpstrike that enemy and exit the fight as a result. I HAVE NOT RAN AWAY, I AM CURRENTLY ATTACKING GAME! OH, and you wanna know some MORE FREAKIN BULLSHIT? If you exit the battle area (even accidentally), It heals up the enemy. So a lot of my damage (which as stated before was hard to deal in the first place) straight up gets healed away because this game can't do zoning fucking correctly JESUS FUCKING CHRIST is that annoying.

Anyway... despite all that fuckery, I managed to kill 3 out of 9 of them... I think I'll hold out on the rest until I up my ascension tree a bit... Fuck those fucking birds and fuck this game's use of zoning.

Those weapons, Durandal and its ilk, they are only really effective against Daemons, correct? Because unless I am mistaken IIRC for example if you use Durandal against non-Daemon enemies, even if Analyze reveals those enemies are weak against Swords the damage you do is still blue regardless...?

Some guy in YouTube actually was knocked away by Adamantoise out of the battle zone while it has only a sliver of Hp left and the game healed the turtle to full health again when he reentered the fight, lol.

heh, I cheesed that mechanic so much. Exit the battleground a quick second and it rezzes all my bros for free, but not slow enough that the enemy heals up, or if they do only about 3-5%.

2 different issues tbh, but uh... yeah still frustrating

I mean i like the idea of being able to warp or run from battle and enemies won't hunt you down, but the implementation in this game is so half-assed (we know they can make instance-battle zones and that zones stack, and yet they don't use those functions at all)

We attack enemies w/o a battle zone, we attack enemies with a battlezone only to accidentally be forced out, etc etc etc.

shit should straight up not happen. this should have been fixed in early, and straight up shouldn't have even crawled its way through QA. It sickens me that the parts are all there to make zoning effective and good, but its never used ffs.

this was also a huge issue against those 2 malbodooms in the secret area. zone was way too small and i would constantly accidentally leave the space.

Ha ha ha, I had this very same random thought this morning. I find it hard to believe he never meets the guys at Hammerhead in chapter 14, at least.

He probably got the biggest shaft out of all the characters. He was almost a 5th party member back in the 2013 trailer, with a promo art showing all 5 of them. Now he's just some high ranking officer that just becomes a local hunter. Maybe his name is Cor the Immortal cause he's so nonexistent

thanks! that explanation of why getting noct to the crystal makes sense.

so i'm going to assume that Noct's dad didn't have the ring fully powered up with that wall erected around the city w/ the crystal in the blu yay movie. kinda hard to believe bc noct had no cooler powers when he woke up 10 years later but a mustache.

He just becomes a hunter

All of Cor's key scenes were cut.... it sucks but he's nothing more than a stupid tour guide to make sure Noctis is strong enough to be king.
i was hoping he's some DLC down the line

Sad thing is they never showed his newly acquired "Powers" in the fight against Ardyn
That's because it isn't an over all power-up, it's more of an ultimate attack. That cinema where he's on the throne after saying goodbye to the bros is him using this power and you see him eliminate Ardyn in a cut scene using it as well.

Correct, Regis didn't have the ring powered up. It took 10 years for the ring to full charge so my guess is Regis felt he couldn't afford to disappear for 10 years as Noctis was too young to run the kingdom and power the shield surrounding Insomnia and no one else there had the royal bloodline that allows them to tap into the crystal's power to protect the city. Noctis is said to be the chose one, the chosen king to end the scourge but if you think of it from a practical perspective, it could simply be because he's the last in the line of Lucis when the scourge fully takes hold and thus, the only one that can do it. If the empire didn't pull the stunt it did, Regis probably would have just done it once he felt Noctis could handle running the kingdom.

As I said to the other poster in the first part of this post, it wasn't like some power up for Noctis, he just obtained an ultimate attack that would rid the world of darkness and destroy Ardyn the Accursed One for good. He was literally the only one in the world that could do this (once Regis knew he himself would die due to Empire treachery) and that's what the point of stressing all the importance of accomplishing this journey for the crystal is.

So Cor regrets not being there for Regis & rectifies that by...not attending to his sworn duty.

Instead of being there for Noctis he deemed it more important to do odd hunting jobs here & there.

Great!

I really hate it what Square Enix did to him. My goodness. Should had died in Insomnia.

So, I'm been wondering... Is there a reason why the whole point of the Empire invasion in Kingsglaive was to steal the crystal?

What were they hoping to achieve by doing that? Was this part of Ardyn's plan all along?

So, I'm been wondering... Is there a reason why the whole point of the Empire invasion in Kingsglaive was to steal the crystal?

The Empire wanted to steal the Crystal for power. Their plans and ambitions were simpler than Ardyn's. Iedolas just wanted power and to expand Niflheim's rule to the entire world.

But Ardyn clearly instigated the whole thing. Apparently Ardyn began influencing Iedolas 10 to 12 years before the game (You can overhear conversations between NPC's where they state the Empire has gone even crazier in the last 10 years, and I think even Accordo's president mentions it).

Remember, Ardyn's plan including fucking the world up as much as possible and to completely shatter the Lucian line. Influencing and advising the Empire to steal the Crystal and to deliver a crushing blow to Lucis was clearly a part of it.

This way, Ardyn could:

1) Using Niflheim to destroy the last stand of the Lucian Kingdom. For him this is essential.

2) Secure the Crystal for his own plan, having access to it in a place he fully controls.

3) Get rid of the Niflheim Empire, since he no longer needed them after securing the Crystal.

Iedolas, Ravus, and all the rest of the Niflheim Empire were simply puppets for Ardyn. He used Niflheim's military might to destroy Lucis and secure the Crystal to put his plan in motion. Once this was achieved, he simply destroyed Niflheim from within.

Some screens I took on PS4 Pro using the High Detail settings (improved hair, yay!). All screens are uncompressed 3840×2160 PNG files.

The characters is this game are so pretty! First, for you Aranea fans:

And for you Luna lovers (I love the lace pattern on the shoulders of her dress!):

Here are the Iris shots I took previously:

I have Cindy shots, too, but they're 2 hot 4 GAF.

Plan to go back for Ardyn next. He has some great shots where he looks into the camera.

Those are interesting details! Is it just in the German localization, or in the original Japanese script as well, I wonder?

Also, speaking of Ifrit...

awesome, please PM me dem Cindy pics

We really need JapanGAF to come in and let us know how the plot goes in the Japanese version.
I played with Japanese audio and I didn't hear them mention a meteor or anything, but I could have easily missed it.

awesome, please PM me dem Cindy pics
I'll have to transfer them to my PC first. The Cindy pics are 1080p PNG taken on a vanilla PS4 (unlike the 4k screens I posted, which were on Pro), but her hair still looks perfect (really, everything still looks perfect).

I really like her character. It's obvious they designed her to look titillating, but at least the NPCs remark on her looks, showing the game is self-aware, and suggesting perhaps that Cindy does it on purpose to bring business to struggling Hammerhead. Cindy herself is a very well-written and well-acted character.

I keep going back to earlier chapters, one by one, and taking pictures. Like I said, I want to get shots of Ardyn first (like the exact moment he scowls when Luna tries to heal him in Ch. 9, and the sad look in his eyes in Ch. 13 when he talks about how he was once a healer of the people). Ardyn is wonderful visual design.

I find Gladio to be very striking visually, as well. But it's hard to figure out where to start with him because there are so many photo opportunities throughout the game!

Just finished. Loved the game, despite its many flaws. The story was overall pretty great, but it most certainly wasn't told all that well. Loved the bros (tears were shed during that post-credits camp scene), and Ardyn was a really compelling villain with a great backstory.

I hope FFXV Final Mix gets ported to Switch so that we can justify adding Noctis and Ardyn to Smash Bros (not that they need a game to be justified, although Cloud I suppose was justified by his now-legendary status)

Seriously, Noctis is perfect for Smash. His phase animation could be his dodge, warp-strikes for up special and side special, cycling through his Royal Arms with his down special, etc. And off-hand, none of the anime swordsmen in Smash have black hair by default, so there's that!

I was already thinking that the English localization of XV was a step back from XII due to the random name changes and inaccurate characterizations, but if it outright omits important plot details it's an even more huge step back :/ It's like we're back in the 16-bit era!

Something doesn't add up...

if 'time traveling to the past' is just memories, the car should have those flight upgrades I got post game, probably would have gotten to the palace easier no?

Here's one of the royal arms....BYE!

Cor Leonis DLC Pack...

(....!)

It's just a gameplay convenience thing so you can go backwards.

Kind of like Squall and friends being able to go play cards during time compression

this mother fucker

God prompto is the best FF character ever

was there ever a reason to use royal arms in gameplay?

didn't seem worth the self damage for slightly more damage... that can't be chained?

- outside of Custards, no enemy is strong to a royal arm. its the most consistent weapon type for this reason
- whether you have them equipped or not, they offer high stat boosts (maybe some downgrades as well...)
- its risk/reward nature can be effective for some fights. each weapon has some really nice unique properties (sword of the wise's normal attacks basically being free warpstrikes) so you can alter your play style a lot with them.

the damage you take is only proportional to the amount of hits you do, not how much damage you do.

I've beaten the game, but have a few questions about earlier events. For starters, who the hell was that Loki or Loqi guy who showed up as a boss in chapter 2 or 3? It seemed like the game would build him up into something, but nope. He was there in a 5 second cutscene and then gone forever.

Same deal with that general guy. Why was I tracking him down again? I played some shitty Assassin's Creed tailgating mission for the sole purpose of tackling the guy. He then apparently escapes off camera immediately afterwards. Nothing is learned and he's never seen again. What was the point of this?

out of all the fights in the 'story stuff' ravus's was the most wacky in terms of balance.

Was there something I missed? He had his slow charging super moves that were easy to dodge... except your AI friends didn't dodge so the whole fight was mostly pot chugging.

This is my favorite Ifrit design by far. He's the fucking devil.
I liked all the summons a lot in this game, but Ifrit takes the cake, yeah.

The only one I don't so much like is Shiva's summon form. Her Statue of Liberty form seemed way cooler
pun intended
