Would you ever consider abandoning consoles entirely for PC in the future?

I could see it happening eventually if consoles were to go fully digital, Steam is the only digital platform that I fully trust.

I would like to, and after PS4 Pro was announced, I built a gaming PC for the purpose of abandoning consoles. But as of right now, there are too many exclusives that keep pulling me back to PS4 - Final Fantasy XV, King of Fighters, etc. If they happen to make it to PC, it's often months/a year or so out.

If developers released games on PC the same time they did for consoles, I would buy them for PC hands down.

If Sony started releasing their games on PC maybe (not PS Now). I could probably live without a Nintendo console as I didn't really play my WiiU that much.

Over the past number of years my tastes have widely shifted over to PC "exclusive" genres such as Grand Strategy, Mundane Vehicle Sim, Colony Management, CRPGs, creative indie productions (I know that's not a genre) and more.

Combine that with a general AAA-fatigue and I can't even imagine a world where I'd want to buy a console at this point.

If I can buy a PC that it's roughly the size of a PS4 Pro, it's similar in noise, costs about the same and has a similar ratio of performance per dollar and also has some nice exclusives that I'm interested, why not?

But I don't see that happening soon, so...

If Monster Hunter, Kingdom Hearts, Yakuza and other Japanese games that are not on PC start being ported with the addition of same day release as console versions then yeah.

I have considered it but I wouldn't. I love my PS4 and the exclusives it has. Also, it'd mean no more Pokemon, Mario, Zelda. That's no kinda life at all. PC is my main platform but I ultimately go where the games are at. I have a soft spot for Playstation but have no true loyalty.

Nope I hate windows as an OS for many reasons other gamers are starting to realize. Short of a real gaming os existing and much better social features I would never give up console gaming for what the pc realm offers now.

GAF I've been an avid Playstation fanboy since the PS2 days with a side of Nintendo, but more and more I wish I gamed on my PC more. If Nintendo and Sony did not have compelling exclusives, I would probably jump ship entirely to PC. I don't see this happening now, but maybe a few generations down the road, considering the barrier to entry for some including myself might be an issue in terms of money.

I feel like Playstation and Nintendo consoles are only as good as their exclusives and first party ecosystem. For the time being, I enjoy Playstation's IP way too much, but if they were ever to come to PC, that would be tempting.

Thoughts?

That why exclusives exist. I dismiss my ps4 for PC, but there is some exclusive that i really miss. Seriously, how many gamers who love sports games keep their console for that? Is there a Last of Us on pc? Bloodborne?

They are not only good for their exclusive. Some people dont like having the idea to set their PC up couch gaming, where console do that in a second, even id its now more easy than ever to hook your pc for couch gaming.

No, console need to stay.

Nope, consoles are a much more streamlined user experience compared to PC. I'm not sure if PC will ever become as good in a comfy couch scenario. Too many little annoyances and hiccups make the PC experience worse than the console one.

I've thought about that, very seriously latter, but then I went back to appreciating the simplicity that consoles offer.

Also, the PC exclusive games that I like are all light titles so I can play them on my laptop (especially once I upgrade).

Yeah, after TLOU2 and the new God of War, I'm gonna finish some of my backlog in PS4 and move entirely to PC. Been planning this for a while.

Then again, I've got an Xbox, so I would end up with two MS machines? Who knows.

Games that support cards always have a set. Playing a game for a couple of hours gets you a certain number of cards, though never the full set. Crafting a full set gets you a badge for the game, which you can display on your profile. Badges also have a couple of levels, so if you really want, you can craft card sets more than once to level up your badge. It's a good way to show off your favorite games through your profile.

Personally, I find them a more appealing way of showing library favorites that platinum trophies on PSN. Some achievements nowadays get really mindless, and are just fodder for players to sink more time than necessary into a game. Not to bag on those who love platinum trophies, the concept just doesn't appeal to me.

Thanks! This explains a lot. So they are unrelated to the steam achievements?

Sorta been doing that for a while now. I only have a PS4 for offline fighting game sessions, everything else I can usually play on my PC. I don't mind spending a few minutes of my day to get an old game working, either. I find the frequent console and game updates on consoles much more annoying than modifying an .ini file. Persona 5 will likely change for a couple of weeks, though.

No, never. Not until either Nintendo stops making consoles or they start releasing games on PC. Even in the latter case I'd still buy the Nintendo console version.

Nope. That means giving up exclusives from Sony and Nintendo. Some of my favorite games of all times have been on those platforms and TLoU 2 is a thing and we all know Bloodborne 2 is gonna happen at some point or perhaps a new Demon Souls? But Until Dawn was amazing also Gravity Rush. Also Persona 5, Kingdom Hearts etc etc. Also as much as I love PC gaming I find myself actually playing the games I buy on console rather than going into my backlog. When on PC even though I have tons of games I've never played I always end up just playing something like dota lol. Plus I love being able to just pick up a controller and play on my big TV. Yes I know I can hook the pc to a TV but lets be honest you can't play every game on a controller well enough especially multiplayer games against keyboard/mouse users.

Similar size - check. MAny alternatives
Similar noise - check, sounds less than ps4
Price - check. Unless you go for better cpu, gpu, ssd etc
Performance - Check. 2-5 times depending on what level of performancs you want. You want 60@1080p@ultra setting? Done
Perhiperals - check. Use console stuff if you want

Personally i have a gtx1070 + 6700k under my tv controlled by a xbox elite controller + steam controller. Just blows my ps4 pro away in EVERY single category. For example witcher 3 initial loads is 2-3 secs and runs in 60fps@ultra setting

If the Switch turns out to be really really really shit (aka don't think so) I basically do this already. After Pokemon I have nothing left to play on 3DS and I don't think that'll change in the future.

I never made the decision to do it, I simply wound up that way. I had all the big consoles from childhood onward after my time with the Nes. The rrod fiasco with the 360 nudged me in the direction of the pc at first. I had a pc, but instead of reinvesting in another Xbox again I went for good pc parts after the last rrod episode I suffered. 360 / Ps3 / Wii was the last time I had all the consoles. The 360 ate it one too many times, I gave my Wii to my brother so he can use it as a netflix box and I loaned my Ps3 to a friend of mine... Who put it in his entertainment center on top of his receiver. And it yellow lighted. Surprise surprise. I never saw the point in investing in the new systems, so the only leftovers I have are my DS and 3ds.

I have my eyes on the Switch and remain open to other consoles as well. I just remain completely unsold for now.

I am headed that way. But I dont see myself giving up a Nintendo console. As long as Destiny is console only I will have to keep a Sony console as well.

Don't think so, that would mean less money for console manufacturers so less great exclusives. If they start porting all games to PC I would abandon consoles but don't see that happening, and I'm fine with that.

The PC feeds all my gaming needs but Nintendo's. As long as Nintendo is in the console business I will buy their hardware in complement to the PC.

I want bloodborne and a couple other sony first-party games. I need most nintendo exclusives. the pc might steal all my third party business in the very near future but as long as those two are making first-party games I won't be able to switch.

You're funny

How much did you pay for your GTX1070 alone? 400 bucks?

PC is my preferred platform, but I'm really enjoying my PS4 Pro on my 4K HDR television. I just wish analog sticks weren't so comparatively garbage against a mouse & keyboard. Ideally, we go to a world where you build your own console (PC) and all games are scalable.

Already have, sure there are some console exclusives that looks interesting, but with the amount of games already available on PC I simply don't have the time.

I'm being forced into it. I won't pay for online, so XOne and PS4 are already non-starters. I bought Wii U but was not happy with it overall. Without even realizing it this might be the last console generation I'm a part of. They had a good run though.

I basically went full-PC this year. I'm keeping the PS4 for exclusives as of now, but I can see it being an easy decision to not purchase any of the next-gen consoles.

One thing's for sure, I'll never buy another console at launch. Get burned every time.

Did that between 2009 and 2016 without too many regrets. Persona 4 was my last console game in 2009 and now it's Persona 5 to convince me to get a PS4.

I missed some supposedly good games but life's too short to play every single good game out there anyway. I didn't get close to playing all the good PC games either.

Only if traditionally exclusive projects took an agnostic approach and released on PC as well. I sold my Xbox One a while back prior to the s release because I no longer had a need for it. But I have a PS4 for exclusives or titles I'm not sure how I'll like (FFXV for instance) so I'm able to basically just get my cash back if I don't like it or if it's a short title.

But yes I already have in many ways. I do like options though, and I don't want to see the artistic license big budget exclusives are given go away.

I do 90% of my gaming on PC but I will keep buying Playstations (at under $300 mark) as long as they keep putting games I want to play on Playstation.

Nope, I love consoles too much anddont enjoy PC gaming.

Idk why, it's not mouse and keyboard or anything else, just barely ever play games for longer than an hour.

Yes. I've always been primarily a PC gamer, but also had a console for local co-op. Ever since I bought a Steam link and can use my PC for 'Living Room' local co-op, I've found less and less of a reason to use my PS4. The recent price increase on PSPlus probably means that I'm soon done with the PS4 entirely.

Honestly reason I haven't is that some games I like don't come out on PC(like Persona 5). As long as those games don't come out on PC I'll still have to buy consoles to play them.

The only way that will ever happen is if Sony drops out of the Video Game business.

Nope. Too many awesome exclusives coming from Sony's first party developers for me to go PC only. Right now, I'm set with my PS3, PS4, Vita, PC, and 3DS. More gaming than I know what to do with, honestly.

Now, if every video game publisher (including the three console manufacturers) decided to go PC only, of course I'd follow the games.
