Would you ever consider abandoning consoles entirely for PC in the future?

I already do. Not supporting closed platforms anymore, for the same reason I would never buy an Apple product.

No. In addition to have great exclusive games and standard controls for all games, I like to buy them and forget about buying new HW during around 5 or 7 years, and to don't need to worry if my HW is enough to run X game properly, drivers, compatibility issues, etc.

I only would move to PC if the console market instead of keeping growing as it has been the recent years and will do in the future gets destroyed and abandoned.

I think I'll always have a Nintendo console but have/will happily drop Sony and MS going forward as I have almost no interest in the types of exclusive games they make. PC and Nintendo is as good as it gets.

I kind of have already, though not intentionally, in this current generation. Haven't bought a PS4 or XBox One yet, no interest in the Wii U (we'll see about the Switch). It's not a conscientious decision to eschew consoles, and I still intend on buying a PS4 at some point in the future, but I have other priorities right now. I would never commit to a mindset of "no consoles ever again," but I am enjoying that it's gotten so much easier to play games on the PC with a wireless controller (10 years ago that was a pipe dream, and now some games all but require it).

I just sold my PS4 for buying a new processor. One year ago I would consider this move as dumb, but now, I think is the better.

Better prices, free online and having all my games one click away made me take this decision. Ah, and now I can play Street Fighter 5 local with my xbox arcade stick against my friend's ps4 arcade stick. n_n

If every console exclusive was on PC, yes. Or if I could pay Sony/MS/Nintendo a licensing fee to just play all their games on my PC, also yes.

Consoles are truly useless outside of the fact that their manufacturers tie exclusives to them, which I totally understand. But in the age of SmartTVs and powerful/small form factor/easily upgradeable PCs, consoles just have 0 value proposition outside their exclusives.

That'll never probably happen though, so I'm glad to continue buying the PS5/XB2/Switch.

I imagine all gaming will be cloud based apps ala Playstation Now eventually, so at that point it will be easy to just game on one device. That's a fair ways off though given the state of broadband availability, speed, data caps etc.

Before then? I probably could as my time and interest in gaming probably doesn't really justify more than one platform and Steam is my biggest backlog. But I still have a PS4 pro for exclusives, and may get a Switch for Nintendo games if the price and library are enticing for me. I just hate missing exclusive that I really want to play, so I've not been able to go to one platform yet. If I did, it would be PC for sure.

PC is already my main platform and I think I can do without stationary consoles but I spend too much time on handhelds to ever go PC only.

No simply because I prefer controller over M/KB. Hence I would be at a disadvantage for MP games. Wouldnt mind building one in the future just to use it for single player games.

No. 15 years ago I considered abandoning PC gaming entirely for consoles. And I still couldn't be happier, PS4 keeps on delivering and the games look even more stunning on the Pro. I'm not itching to spend my time tweaking settings to get a game to perform properly and messing around with drivers again.

And Sony and Nintendo have too many incredible exclusives under their belt.

Nah

Need them Sony exclusives and Japanese third party titles.

Also like playing games when they come out instead of waiting for ages for who knows what reasons.

I have as of 2011, when I got rid of the 360, Nintendo Wii and DS, but even back since 2007 I'd stopped using the 360. I used to have every Nintendo system since the NES - day one, same for Xbox, same for portables, but not anymore.

I borrowed a PS3 to get through Last of Us and some of the MGS games I missed (3, PW, 4) back in 2014; but in essence I'm just using PC and mobile platforms right now. It seems likely that at the end of the console cycles this time I'll do the same for PS4 and perhaps a Nintendo system.

If Nintendo or Sony can demonstrate consistent perpetuity for their games at the very least together with solid digital purchasing policies - then chances are I would happily pick one up when there are enough titles I want and the systems are suitably priced vs what I buy. The problem here is that neither do a good job now and there will need to be several years of proving they can do it right before I get involved. I found it better for me to just invest the money on PC gaming side of things and spend all that is saved on other things.

I went with PC at the start of this gen but the troubles with AMD and R9 290 really left a bad taste so I switched back to consoles last year. Might switch to PC again some time end of this gen but I'm never going exclusive PC.

Only if Nintendo or Sony did something so anticonsumer and untenable that i could not support them on that basis alone, similar to MS's DRM scenario.

Maybe making everything always online or getting rid of all retail channels, or perhaps getting rid of hardware entirely and making everything a subscription service?

Yes. I bought two consoles this past generation (PS4 and Wii U), but given my indifference to all but one or two Sony exclusives,* if Nintendo left the console business, I would happily leave it too.

*The PS4 was really just a bridge to when I was ready to build a PC. With that done, I don't see myself playing my PS4 again any time soon.

Outside of Nintendo, I'm already heading in this direction. I currently own a (very full, launch day) PS4, and have no interest in a PS4 Pro. The exclusives just aren't pulling me in anymore.

I did this almost 6 years ago and don't regret it at all. I can deal with missing out on a small amount of exclusives that I miss. Getting PS4/PC multiplats as well as XB1/PC multiplats makes up for it

I basically already did, if we exclude the 2 or 3 games I play on consoles every year.

I might even sell them all and just rent/borrow one when necessary.

No because I don't feel PC gaming is near as strong as we want it to be in it's "golden age". The biggest benefit to PC gaming is it's cheaper and you can get certain genres usually only on PC (mainly RTS). And of course, if you get a AAA game that's not a console port, you can have the best looking version of that.

I have a really nice rig and I rarely touch it. There just doesn't feel like any games are coming to PC that aren't watered down ports. And Steam is so flooded with mobile games and indie flops, I don't even see a reason to check it out anymore outside of the sales.

As a long time PC gaming, I just don't see the PC as a main contender for me. Nothing on PC looks better than Uncharted 4. That's just sad.

I abandoned console gaming in favor for PC gaming a long time ago. I haven't bought a console since the XBox 360. There are very few console exclusives that I want to play, and most of those games are on the PS4 and Nintendo systems. But on the Xbox One side, there is very little reason to own that console.

I might get a Switch just for the unique Nintendo titles... But otherwise, I don't really miss console gaming at all.

Honestly, around the ps2 era and earlier, there was no chance i would even consider this.

Now? It has kinda already happened. I still have a ps4 and owned a wii u/xbox360/ps3 last gen, but the exclusives i care about are getting less and less.

If Playstation's IP's came to PC natively, I would stop buying consoles altogether.

I very much doubt that will happen so I'll stick with PC as my main platform and consoles for everything I can't get in PC.

I haven't abandoned consoles entirely, but I have moved to PC almost exclusively for multi-plats. I used to at least buy local multiplayer games on console, but I've moved over to doing that on PC as well with a setup that allows me to sit at a desk or at the couch and use my tv.

I still have my consoles for exclusives, but my day-to-day gaming is now PC/Nintendo.

Probably not entirely? At the very least, I'd probably be able to do Nintendo/PC, but I couldn't ever give up having the current Nintendo hardware.

Nah

PCs have gotten a lot better than they were in the old days in terms of user friendliness for gaming, but that's like saying brain surgery has gotten easier with more advanced medical technology. It's still not as lol EZ as I would like. And PC games still seem to launch launch late/broken with more regularity than consoles (Arkham Knight), which might not be an issue if it's a game I pick up 2 years after launch on a Steam sale for 5 bucks, but would drive me up the wall if I was buying a new release.

And to get "PC performance" you still have to pay more than a console would (And if you're not getting PC performance, what's the point?) so it's not exactly the most financially pleasant option.

Also Japanese games aren't on there with the regularity I require. And even when they are they aren't always optimized too good.

And then there's bandwidth considerations. I still get shit on a disc because I wanna play it right away (or after a half hour installation) and not after spending 4 hours to download it. And that's without worrying about BW caps that could be looking in the future.

PC is stronger than it ever has been, but it's not quite in a position to win this console boy's heart yet. That being said, I see my PC as my game "library" where I rebuy all the stuff I played once and then moved on from/no longer own the hardware for. If Nintendo was smart, they would use the "digital collection" approach with the VC, but I think they prefer the short term profits of having people pay 3 bucks to buy Super Mario Bros. 3 for the fifth time than the likelihood of them buying the new Nintendo machine because they know they'll have a huge built-in collection of games...

Nope, as far as I'm concerned my PC remains and will continue to remain my RTS/strategy game machine and nothing else. I prefer to play the bulk of my games on console.

When the console market stops existing(meaning my quality of life starts getting bad)...I will have to see where the games are going then choose the best alternative.

No, I play on both and I'd keep it that way.

PC for strategy games/MMOs/MOBAs/Exclusives/etc

Console for everything else

For the moment I'm rather expecting that I'll have to abandon PC gaming if Microsoft wins and establishes their monopoly uwp store as the only source of games.
