Enter The Gungeon |OT| Praise the gun

Just do it on a run you get a decent gun on the first floor, then just save up. It's easier with the Marine.

Keys are more numerous now after the update.

Good luck finding it, though.

Or if you really wanna live dangerously, pray at the shrine in the opening room of the first floor. Increases your curse, which leads to more jammed enemies, which leads to more money.

The money's easy, is the fricking key drop rate that's annoying. Not to mention doing the Oubliette means using up 2 keys or chancing the lockpick on it.

pilot is slept on. he's not good at the start, but the start is easy anyway. And you can do a lot with two items, a lockpick and some luck

The Pilot is who I've managed to beat the game with first actually, it was an epic run.

Curious, the people who have problems with this game, whether it be how slow each run seems to start(going off the replies in the last few pages, I'll be starting the game soon), how do you like this compared to nuclear throne? More or less difficult?

Nuclear throne is a blast and I'm proud of how far I can get in that game.

I'll say this: I absolutely love both of them, I have 50h in Nuclear Throne and 105h in Gungeon. While I can see myself doubling my Gungeon playtime, each day I'm more excited to play, I feel like Nuclear Throne has given me everything already.

Gungeon is more punishing than Nuclear Throne IMO, and a ton more difficult than Binding of Isaac.

Having played a bunch with Supply Drop now, I feel that what the game is lacking most at the moment is interesting synergies. Literally all of the ones at the moment are boring +dmg, +clip or +reload speed. Having interesting synergies, especially with crappy items/guns would make the game much more interesting and fun.

If you enjoy Nuclear Throne a lot, keep your expectations in check for this. It's still fun, but its slower and boring at times(ie the first two floors). The chaos never peaks the way NT does and the game can feel more padded out. That's why I have more hours in Gungeon than NT. Bosses are much more difficult but it's a bit like Isaac in that some runs can be much easier since you had the fortune of a good weapon dropping. Anyway, you should play it and share your thoughts with us here!

This is something I also complained about - There are very, very few synergies in play here compared to Isaac. Most builds you end up with are just dull.

Never found the first two floors boring myself. Always interesting trying to survive with just the starting weapon.

Anyway, other than the key rate has the game been made easier in any way with the Supply Drop update? In 45 hours before the update, I killed only the Marine's past. In about 5 hours since, I've killed two more pasts, ending one run with 7 extra keys.

Or is it a "more keys -> open more chests -> more weapons and items -> game feels easier" sort of deal?

I also didn't mind the slower early floors, you just change your objective to not taking any hits at all, since that also gets you better drops.

Yeah pretty much! I usually aim to finish the first floor without taking a hit, boss included, and clear the second floor except the boss with the starter gun. Can't say I've been bored at any time.

To people accustomed to games like NT, it's slow and takes far too long. And it's not challenging at all. Outside of the synergies, it's the weakest part of the game. I'd opt for the floor skip, except you're left underpowered with less hearts and items.

The thing is once you've completed the game it clicks and gets much easier.

It depends on what you want out of the game. Like, I really enjoy the Gungeon setting, just the way the game looks, moves, and talks. That's a big selling point of the game for me, maybe even the biggest. So the early floors are still great fun for me, purely on that alone.

But if you're looking for difficulty (and that's fine), then yeah, the early floors will be weaker. The difficulty curve is shallower than Nuclear Throne's (but still relatively steep), so while it's pretty hard for people new to the game, it might be too easy if you're used to it.

My main gripe with Enter the Gungeon so far is ammo drop scarcity. I've gone through entire second and third floors without getting a single ammo drop so more often than not what I end up doing when I get a new gun is not use it until a boss.

I wish the game was more Isaac-like where there are more passive abilities and weapon traits stacked. Some of the weapon types are really awesome and cool, no doubt, but I just end up hoarding instead of using them.

yep - i love how polished the game is.

The idea is to stop you from relying on only one weapon.

I don't understand the point of the rat. Why let it steal ammo boxes? I don't get it. What is the design decision behind this? I hate that you can't go back to pick it up, especially when you don't have a new gun yet.

Also I think active items need to recharge every new room. Does anyone ever frequently use active items at all aside from the grappling hook? The damage requirement to recharge them is too much that I always forget I have it or I'm coveting it too much in case I really really need it.

The rat is kind of a fun-limiter, I think it's in to push your forward.

I think active items are fine the way they are. I use them whenever it's useful, not a huge issue, you're damaging something most of the time.

Yeah but you're already backtracking for keys, blanks, and hearts. I don't know why they can't leave you ammo either.

The problem with active items is that I don't know when it's gonna be useful more. I use them about as much as I do blanks because some of the damage recharge requirements on them are a bit too high. Maybe it's just my problem because I don't think active items are active enough.

You should use most of them whenever you can. A few are just trash and not worth picking up, stuff like the C4 and cluster mines for example.

Why would you ever leave keys and blanks on the floor? And regarding hearts, ammo can be abused much more easily than them; having an ammo drop ready to recharge a weapon (which would be very often) would remove the risk/reward mechanic of using your best weapons.

You never accidentally left a room with a heart or key in there? Also I read that having less keys in your inventory means a better chance of the shop keeper selling keys and that you should be leaving keys on the floor or use them before going to the shop.

Regardless, why make the rat not take those too? I just don't see much point to the rat other than as an unfun nuisance that doesn't add any challenge.

I won't argue that the rat is kind of unfun and a nuisance, but I simply can't agree that it doesn't "add any challenge". That is factually wrong the second you don't get to use that ammo to refill a gun.

Played this last night for the first time in months - feels like they made the start harder (new enemies and some that I think were from lower floors moved to the opening chamber). With that said I had some fairly decent runs - consistently making the fourth floor.

I did manage to get to the Forge and even found the lady who tells you that you need materials for a special bullet so I guess I'll focus on that from now on.

Also need to read up on general strategies, and focus on being better in the boss fights (after floor one). Wallmonger fucks me up no end in particular.

EDIT: Also I picked up the metronome last night - seemed like a great passive on a half decent gun (I mostly used the Blooper).

Wallmonger is a pain in the arse, if you can get something that avoids fire or flight it's a lot easier to handle.

They have made it harder, especially with Mineflayers appearing.

Thanks for the confirmation. It's been a while as I said so I wasn't sure if I was just rusty or not.

This is one of those games that I can enjoy even though I'm not great at it. It nails the "feel" in a way not many other games do for me - it's the same reason I can play Destiny even when there's been no new content for a while. <3

While there *are* new enemies from the recent patch, I think most of them don't show up until the 2nd floor and beyond. What you're describing happens naturally and has been part of the game since launch- as you play more and get more unlocks the game will start throwing more/harder enemies at you sooner.

Feels good getting the Disintegrator and watching the bosses' health melt away.

Ironically enough I got all the way to the Marine's Past, didn't get touched by the High Dragun once - Elder Blank helped massively in that regard.

I'm at the point now that I'm really comfortable working through the levels (at least up to and including the hollow), but I'm struggling to master most of the bosses. Next on my agenda is to try and routinely no hit those fuckers! Decided to just try to get through the forge once before I worry about other strategies.

First run ever with the
Bullet
, make it past chamber 5, get
dragged to bullet hell for the first time, fight the lich, make it to the third form and my fucking controller batteries run out as the fight begins, game doesn't pause, I jump for my keyboard to pause but I've lost a good chunk of health. End up dying with the lich at about a third health.
fucking hell
