People have these stories for every vendor. It's really hit or miss for everyone. Overall, I still think Best Buy and Amazon are much better bets than anyone else.

Amazon has missed multiple release day deliveries for me. But then they sent me horizon zero dawn a day early.

Best Buy has never missed a release day delivery for me, but usually I wouldn't get the game until the late afternoon or evening. So I've changed to in store pickup and have never had a problem. 20% off on any new game (not just near release date like Amazon prime) as well as amiibos has been pretty sweet too.

And both Amazon and BB have come through for my switch orders, as they're on the truck for delivery this morning.

GameStop is probably the most reliable for in store preordering (usually), but their online store can really suck for launches.


Point is, everyone will let you down at some point. No single vendor is immune to shipping delays or being shorted supply. And sometimes it really is just UPS's fault too.

I preordered one from both Best Buy and Target, did a pick-up for BB since Target has historically been awful for me with release-date delivery. Lo and behold, the Target preorder is showing as delivering today. Lucky.

TheHut/zavvi went downhill years ago and since deleting my accounts with them I never looked back, since they power the nintendo store it's honestly expected.

I mean, up until this, I've had no problems with pre-orders from them.

Games generally arrived day before. When I got my New 3DS Ambassador edition from them they delivered it next day via DPD.

Considering they're being contracted by Nintendo, you think they'd care a little more since if they fuck up, Nintendo could drop them. This looks terrible for Nintendo, them fucking up their big new console release.

I ordered my switch from Gamestop at 3am with the first wave of preorders. Without thought, I selected the free shippping. There was my rookie mistake...

My Switch shipped yesterday afternoon and will be delivered on Monday. Waiting the entire weekend when preordering on a system launch day blows.

In retrospect, I should have just done instore pickup and I would have it already.

I'm worried as well OP but Best Buy did its job, it's UPS I can't fucking stand. Such a shitty company. Best Buy was weird in that they shipped my 3 orders separately. Granted I ordered all 3 items separately (as they became available actually) so the Neon Switch, SE of BotW and the Pro controller.

I had 2 orders (the Switch and Zelda) both sent to my UPS access point. Zelda I got yesterday, the Switch is currently in "destination scan" and isn't out for delivery yet. Pro controller is out for delivery but I wasn't able to schedule it to go to my UPS access point. I really hope I can get my shit today.

I'll get on support chat soon and be nice before I start chewing some ears out over at UPS.

Zavvi didn't send my Switch at all, having seemingly forgotten about my order, so I cancelled that. Fuck 'em.

Nintendo UK (who are of course run by TheHut/Zavvi) didn't let me cancel my Pro Controller despite me sending an email asking them to do just that, and sent it anyway afterwards via low priority courier to arrive sometime next week.

I put in an order with Argos this morning and they're going to ship it to arrive sometime this afternoon, so hopefully today can still turn around.

The entire scenario has been a bit of a shitshow and killed my excitement a bit, honestly. Still, it's been a learning lesson- don't use Zavvi/TheHut/Nintendo for launch hardware, if ever. I've worked in logistics almost all my working life, so I know about the pressure of big consumer launches, but Switch's UK launch hasn't been the best in my experience.

Basically what happened here is that I preordered the Nintendo Switch, Zelda and the official case at Fnac.com. Wednesday my stuff started to move, but they broke it down into 3 different shipments. Zelda got shipped and its tracking started to work almost right away. It got here today. The console is marked as shipped but almost 48 hours later, the tracking number still doesn't pick up anything. Because it hasn't been actually shipped. But I have been charged. They say it's the carrier's fault. Which I don't buy, but there's nothing I can do about it, except enjoy the weekend without the Nintendo Switch and with a copy of Zelda I can't play.

FYI as of 8 am Walmart of Caguas (and I guess the others around the island) had many consoles available for walk ins. I canceled my amazon ordered and got it there.
