Sony X800D well - reviewed, 4k+HDR TV with low input lag

I'm pretty sure the mode is saved on an HDMI port basis and as such the selected mode on one port will not carry over to another meaning you can set a different mode on all of the 4 available ports.
In addition to the 4 hdmi ports I assume the tv cable input is also separate?

Edit: And the apps, which settings are these using?

Returning my 49x800d today because of DSE and will order a new one. As I previously asked, do you think there's a higher/lower chance of having DSE with the 43 model (because of size or different panel type), or does it have nothing to do with that and it's just pure luck?

Mine is arriving tomorrow

I’m nearly sure I saw a post somewhere in this thread with recommended settings. If someone could link me to this that would be great

Also did I see someone mention I should be using HDMI port two for the Ps4 Pro? Is there a reason for this?

I also have a SKY box which will have some football in 4K, is there settings recommended for this too?

Thanks as always

You need to use hdmi 2 or 3 as they're the only ones that do 4k@60fps with rgb colour.

You also need to enable enhanced hdmi in the settings too.

Link me to a good cloth.

I personally bought a 6 pack of these. Very soft and plush, sure they are meant for cars but they were designed not to inflict any marring or scratches on car paint, very big and durable. I use the long fiber side to get dust off the screen lightly, then if I see fingerprints or other marks, use the other side to get clean. Again, I only use a little distilled water.

This will likely be the 4K TV I'll buy but it seems stupid to put down the cash on it now (which I could) when there is a newer model on the way and thus a potential price drop. Think it's best to wait for reviews on the xe80 series and make a call then but this thread has pretty much convinced me.

ports 2 and 3, when enhanced hdmi is turned on, are the only hdmi ports than can do 4k @60 with hdr.

hdmi ports 1 and 4 can still do 4k, but itll be 30fps.

good luck with that. you could end up sending the tv back many, many times before you find a panel that has limited clouding or perfect uniformity.
its the nature of lcd's. larger the screen gets, the more its likely to happen.

I'm not looking for perfection, but I can't justify paying 800€ for a TV with a picture quality that I find worse than my 5 year old 42" Philips for gaming, which had a bit of clouding, but no DSE at all. I may go for a 43" this time if there's generally less DSE on smaller sizes...

Just had my 49 inch delivered today.

Havent tried much yet, been watching HDR youtube videos on the HDR Channel. OMG the colors on this thing is amazing. Super impressed so for. I have not changed any picture settings yet, will dive into that later.

Now to try out some Xbox and PS4 games.

The apps have their own. I think there is also another separate one purely for 'Video' apps. I don't know how it identifies these.

Wait, did the Android TV YT app get support for HDR? I was under the impression it was still limited to Samsung, Chromecast and maybe some other brand.

I figured it was? It looks amazing.

*edit guess not. The brightness does not change.

Yeah I had this problem with my first purchase. It was out of control with my first purchase. The second was much much better. There are small parts that have that problem but it's not that noticeable.

Lets discuss settings. I tried the rtings settings but they look so bland compared to the "standard" mode. Is it just because I am used to the exegerated colors? I would prefer to deactivate all picturr processing options but especially the "color brilliance" setting really makes the colors pop out more.

Play around with them a bit. rtings does note that panels will vary and what the lighting conditions of the room are will also influence things.

Whats the concensus on best tv for ps4 pro? Ive seen a samsung ks8000 thread and this one. Not sure which better
Both have similar picture quality. The KS8000 has better input lag and local dimming IIRC which was why I was looking at it initially. I ultimately decided on the X800D because it was cheaper.

hdr isnt meant to make colours pop.
its really meant to make stuff look more like real life.
youve got adjusted to seeing over saturated colours over the years and now dont like the look of hdr or anything else at correct settings.

its your eyes, so you can do what you like.... but your eyes are wrong. ;P

The biggest upgrade, besides resolution, for this TV was the colours. I came from a Samsung Plasma TV, and the colors on the X800D even blow that plasma out of the water.
Blacks though... That's a different story, haha

Yea the colours are intense.

So is there also no HDR in Netflix or Amazon video? I notice it does not seem to come on in those either now.

HDR definitely works in Netflix. Not everything 4k on Netflix has HDR though, so you have to look for the shows that have "HDR" labeled. I've watched both Santa Clarita Diet and Luke Cage in HDR on this set, both of which looked phenomenal for different reasons: Santa Clarita was very muted, natural colours, whereas Luke Cage was very dark, but the flashes of light through the darkness were amazing (Cop car lights at night, etc...).

Ok. I tried Netflix, Jessica Jones. I noticed the brightness did not max out like on other HDR content. Prettty sure it was HDR. Will try Luke Cage.

It can work in the Amazon app from the TV. HDR content on Amazon's annoyingly difficult to find however. (The Man In The High Castle seems to be the only one I've found, and I had to add that to my watch list from my PC's browser since the serch function would not bring it up in app.)

Doesn't work from the PS4 Pro yet.

The grand tour is HDR.

This is what I've had mine set at since the early days of getting this TV. Haven't touched them since, and I'm quite happy with them. I have no light control in the room where I use it, so it goes from very dark to direct sunlight sometimes, so that's why it's higher than rtings, which were just way too dark/dull for me.

Got my 55 inch today. It's a monster

Can anyone explain to me why HDMI 3 is also got The word ARC after it?

Also when changing inputs it's got the same input twice but also have "player 1" or player 3 beside it?

Finally. I have HDR activated for PS4 pro, the screen adjusts briefly when turning on a HDR compact game like Uncharted 4. Is that normal?

ARC [Audio Return Channel] is a feature of HDMI 1.4+ that enables TV to return audio back to a receiver. It simplifies things and potentially removes the need for additional [audio] cabling.

Would it be possible to have the PS4 in HDMI 2 and a cord in hdmi 3 going to a receiver for HD audio?

1. Yes, you may be accustomed to exaggerated settings. However, I think even for people like that, "good" settings should still be appreciable.

2. So, rtings' settings may not be right, for your panel. Calibration settings are meant for that specific TV, as done by the calibrator.
In my experience, panels tend to come in "batches". Settings from one site may be way off, for your particular TV. Whereas two other sites' settings may give you good results to work with.

See if you can find settings from another site.

But, in the end, trust your eyes. If some pro settings have a quality you dont like, adjust to your taste.

How is default standard settings exaggerated though

How is default standard settings exaggerated though

for number 2...

that user is referring (or getting confused with) the panel specific white point, and rgb values that are listed at the bottom

all the other settings like sharpness, black level, brightness, contrast etc etc. are absolutely correct on rtings for all panels.

brightness adjust to suit environment. contrast as high as possible without clipping whites. (the default of 90 will suit if you dont know how to check a calibration website)

Ok guys. God this bad bod yesterday. Did the OP tipps (enhanced HDMI) and adjusted with rtings for best quality.

I have the OG PS4 and tried Horizon. When I boot the game, the picture mode shows a little "HDR" in the upper right corner, so I guess that means im fine. I found the colors to be less vivid but the biggest concern is when I use the home button to go back to the PS4 menu. It really looked wahsed out then. Is this because I booted an HDR game and while still having the game in the background the PS4 menu looks different to when I just boot the PS4 without any HDR content?

I have everything regarding HDR on auto, brightness adjusts automatically so I see no issue not detecting the HDR signal correctly. I just want to make sure that this is it and this is how it is supposed to look.
Since this is OG PS4 I do not have the picture information menu where I could check.

So am I fine when I see the little HDR icon in the picture settings?

Yeah if you see HDR in the TV menus then it's all working fine, but as mentioned, there is no HDR support in the PS4 menus unfortunately.

I bought the 43' X800D today, Horizon looks fantastic on my PS4 Pro. HDR is a lot more understated than anticipated but looks really natural. Gonna take a bit of getting used to but I'm loving it so far. I'll try out the settings tomorrow and get everything dialed in.

There's something weird going on. I have a Fire TV stick in hdmi 1 and the PS4 in hdmi 2. However, it labels the hdmi 2 as "Fire TV stick". What gives?

Ratchet and Clank is some of the best HDR.

Does this TV save separate SDR and HDR settings while in game mode and switch between automatically?

no.

the settings are per hdmi port, but not per sd/hdr content.

only difference that hdr does is automatically max the brightness (as it should) when hdr content is being sent, and then automatically lowering it back to your settings when the hdr content is finished.

the tv will automatically switch over to hdr mode, increasing the brightness to max in the process.

thats all that happens. and all that needs to happen.
also the ps4 will automatically alter its output to yuv422/limited range, and set it back to full range after youve finished with hdr.

also, after youve finished playing whatever hdr game it is and quit out, the tv will flick back to sdr content mode, reapplying you brightness setting automatically.

its all very seamless and hands off. it works like a charm.
