^It's so bad at times I'd actually be willing to have Japanese audio and read subtitles. It actually hurts the game - 3 characters so far have been grating for me: Zelda's dad, Zelda and Mira. Maybe they were going for an 80s fairytale storybook vibe...it's not good.

---apparently it's possible with Cemu. I'm going to do that for my second run down the line.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The developers really like golf it seems. I've been liking it in this too but the motion shrines control so poorly. Not sure if it's the weird rotation they make you do on purpose or if it's input lag or what.

I was wondering if the other languages are as bad. Its like they didn't even listen to it. I don't understand how a huge game like Zelda, wouldn't have the best voice acting team on it. The actors are fine, but the direction was so obviously "eh say this line, okay thats good next line"

I'm not sure which bothers me more, the acting or the fake accents.

The only accent that really bugs me is Zelda, the voice place crappy reading... oy...

I can't believe BOTW comes from the same team and same director as Skyward Sword. The games are so different and, frankly, BOTW is so much better in every way. They are nearly opposite of each other in terms of linearity, structure, gameplay interactions, controls, etc.
This is something I find hard to believe, too. Not only are they different in goals, BotW is like 10x as ambitious in general.

Just one example: BotW has multiple towns and they're all more interesting than Skyward Sword's one town.

I think the main focus of Skyward Sword's development is how to make the gameplay using motion controls interesting, while BotW's development focuses on the vast world and open nature of the game. Different priorities from the same team will lead to different results.

So I've at 62 shrines and just got to the final main town
goron city, assuming I complete this and the gerudo dungeon, am I at a good amount of stuff to beat the final boss? Whats a recommend number of shrines before doing so?

I don't think that's what makes BotW such a different and surprising game. Yes, SS is linear and BotW is open. Yes, one emphasizes motion controls and one doesn't. That much is pretty obvious. What's fascinating is that BotW, more than any other Nintendo game in recent history, has been designed in a way that respects the player and believe he or she is smart enough to figure things out for themselves. It's a completely different approach than Skyward Sword (or any 3D Zelda, really) and it goes far beyond a focus away from linearity or motion controls. It's a revolution for the entire franchise.

I beat him with only 40 shrines done and only stamina upgrades.

If you learned to parry or activate flurry rush you'll be good. I didn't do any dungeons tho

So long as you have
the master sword
and know how to reflect guardian beams the final boss shouldn't give you any trouble. Especially if you do all the dungeons before heading over.

Without major spoilers, should I be doing everything before heading to Central Hyrule? Is there a point of no return?

There is at no point in this game a point of no return.

On this note, I kinda what to add to why this is surprising. Zelda is quite complex (perhaps the most complex Nintendo Game yet in terms of core design) in terms of the wide set of rules that the player is expected to learn often without a direct tutorial in a not dissimilar way to Dark Souls (they pretty much both give you the basic controls and say figure the rest out however you can). There's still hints and signposting, but that's to lead the player's mind so that they trick themselves without showing the designer's hand too easily.

Most other Nintendo games don't have tutorials per say because they're so simple at their core and if they do, they're like 2-3 minutes long for more complex games (with a couple rare exceptions like Xenoblade).

Do the Rito (bird) beast first. The ability you get from it makes navigation vastly easier.
It's also by far the easiest of the Beasts

People seem to recommend the Zora chapter as the first, because it's the easiest to find, but it's also one of the longest chapters and one of the hardest. Portions of it really mess up inexperienced players, meanwhile the Rito dungeon is pretty straight forward and easy and gets you used to Beast quests. It's also super light and short and the reward is great.

My order was Zora, Rito, Gerudo, Goron. But if I were to actually make an order based on what appears to be the "proper" difficultly curve, I'd go Rito, Goron, Zora, Gerudo. If this were a linear Zelda, I believe that would likely have been the order the missions would have been set in.

What order is the best way to do the divine beasts?

The Rito one (the bird) has the most useful reward and it isn't too tough to get to. The Zora one is pretty close to the start, has a cool armor reward, and introduces some good concepts.

The Gerudo one probably requires the most gear / food to get to comfortably so probably isn't great for starts. Likewise the Goron zone.

I'm bad at the former and great at the latter

I do have that, sounds like I'm good to go.

Alright, thanks.

Beginning to feel like I'm getting too strong and whatever is there will be a cakewalk.
You hit that point eventually, where you get strong enough where the game becomes really easy

I don't even remember the last time I died. Like 20 hours ago. I've recently just been messing around with weak gimmick weapons like mops to try and at least bring back some of the challenge from the early game.

JUST WAIT you ain't seen nothin yet

Everything about the great fairies is hilariously bizarre. So good.

Prepare yourself for the 4th one.

Damn, looks like I need to go bowling so I can get to the 4th fairy asap.

I wonder if they still run away from bees.

latest

I totally forgot that was a thing.

I usually combined it with the Hylian Hood and the Hylian Trousers, dyed blue. Not perfect, but I liked the aesthetic as someone who will make every outfit blue in every game.

If you go by the official art or the Memories, Hylian Trousers and either no hat or the Hylian Hood.

I put on the Hylian Hood and Trousers imidiatly after I put the Champion chest piece on. I thought that those would have just been a place holder. Guest I was wrong.

On another note

I used to love the cooking mechanic. Now, not so much. It's the one thing I'm tired of doing but need to do incase I run into a strong oponent and not die. Kind of sucks.

I wonder where they go from here. I think i do want future zelda games to be open world, but I also want more and larger temple style puzzle areas in the next game.

Could they actually change the setting from the faux-medieval period that the series has stayed in for so long? Or would people hate it?

An old western zelda with guardian style technological monsters?

A Zelda set in primeval human era with dinosaurs??

idk just stupid ideas. I do feel like they can't just make this game but bigger again later.

I am surprised they didn't stick with the zelda 1 type theme and have the temples be "underworld" underground to explore. It might even have been fun to have the underground temples be interconnected somehow.

I'd like a world this big with 2x the villages, 2x the sidequests, a traditional dungeon in each region, and the ability to board all sorts of animals to stables.

Its super unrealistic but it would be the best game ever. Well, better than BoTW which is currently the Best Game Ever™

When should I hit Eventide Island? Save it for post game? Or after I finish the final beast? Not sure what to expect there but it seems challenging so I'm treating it like a dungeon.

It's challenging it you got like 5 heart, otherwise it's gonna be a cakewalk for you at your proposed points.

I'd like a Hyrule of this scale (or smaller) but not a post apocalyptic one, I want to experience a bustling Castle Town with the depth and care that Gerudo Town has been given.

This is probably not feasible, though, I have no idea what the setting or hook of the next Zelda game will be, or whether it will even have the scope and freedom of this game.

Completely stumped on how to unlock a shrine. I'm at
Veiled Falls in Zora's Domain
and I've tried everything I can think of to solve this damn riddle to open up the shrine and I'm not getting anywhere. I've got the
Ceremonial Trident
but I don't know what I'm supposed to do with it.

Any hints?

Has anyone tried making a hard save, then starting a new game and on the new game only saving it via autosaves?

In theory, this should let you have two save files when you start a new game. Only thing is when you go back to your hard save it'll erase your new save.

If that worked for anyone then let me know. I want to try a new game soon but am too afraid to erase my nearly 100% Shrine/Sidequest save file. I don't want to start a new profile. >_>

Anywayz: only 8 more shrines and I know where they all are. Feels good. Saving Eventide for last. Still missing like 30 sidequests somehow.

Where I'm at, only one enemy in the world gets me to pause and mark the map with a skull. I feel I don't need to specify which enemy that is.

Honestly, now that the hard stuff is out of the way, a lot of this is probably pretty realistic for the next game. Maybe not 15+ traditional dungeons though lol

Well, what can you do with a Trident?

Reverse Excalibur that shit

Alright, thanks.

Beginning to feel like I'm getting too strong and whatever is there will be a cakewalk.

If you can survive a guardian laser blast and you've cleared more than 2 dungeons, Ganon will probably not be much of a challenge at all.

I feel like I'm tremendously underpowered.
Waterblight Ganon
is kicking my ass and one-shotting me. Any tips?

Phase 1:
Learn to dodge at the right time to activate the flurry rush. If you really can't do this, run really close to him and take a few swipes, then run away and he will almost always do his AOE attack. Keep repeating this and you will keep him in a loop of doing the same attack which you can easily dodge so long as you're not too slow with running after attacking.

Phase 2:
Use cryonis to break all his ice blocks except one, then use stasis to on the last one to hit the block back at him for a knock down. Use cryonis to create ice blocks to move across the water more quickly as well.

If he's going to shoot a laser at you, you can parry it, but if you're not confident in your ability to parry try shooting an arrow right into his eye to stop him.

Quick question: can another profile on switch play a completely separate save? Or do different profiles share saves?

You can use another profile to create another save file.

This is a great point. I'd love a bustling Castle Town full of people from all corners of the world. Out of the 80+ hours I put in, at least 30 of those were interacting with NPCs. I cant get enough of Zelda NPCs and side quests. Theyre so much fun.

I did think the post apocalyptic concept here was nice. I stumbled onto the ruins of a large village near Lake Hylia. I wonder how Link feels looking at all these burned homes and things knowing it happened because he failed to save the world 100 years ago.
