Lego City Undercover Switch cover mentions 13GB download [Up3: Full game on card]

Nintendo really cheaped out on that 32GB internal memory. An external HDD will basically be required very soon.

Hopefully we'll get another hw version with an internal hdd.

Feels like Nintendo themselves are going to have to address this. It's hard to believe that publishers are taking these risks to upset customers without a cause behind it. A change to how Nintendo is charging for the cartridges may be necessary or something.
Yup i agree, this could turn into being a big issue if they don't with future releases.

The only news I need is a statement from Nintendo banning this.
I hope that's not what they do because it is partially on them for having such little storage and such higher costs for the carts

where the hell would they fit a hdd inside the tablet have you seen the inside of that thing its packed to the brim.

Umm... that defeats the purpose of being "handheld"

Another switch version most likely would go the route of more portability at a cheaper price point no?
Wouldn't be surprised at a 2DS type of Switch rather than go SwitchPro

A side issue, but Nintendo insists upon price parity for digital/physical releases of games.

Going digital-only is a good solution to this issue, but I can see why a mass-market game like Lego might not want to do this.

Let's not act like WB couldn't afford a bigger cart in this scenario. The margins on this game are automatically bigger because it's a port of a 4 year old game.

Was excited for this, but the fact that only 1/3 of the game is on the cart is gonna make me pass until a deep sale. I was already feeling a little eh after hearing that it would require two sets of joycons for multiplayer, and that it runs at 720p... All that for $60. Yeaaaa... no.

That would raise the power consumption and lower the battery life in handheld mode. Sony ditched the UMD drive on their handhelds, and Apple switched to flash from mini HDDs. There was a reason for that. Hardware failures would also be more common.

Just boycott the shizzle out of this game. Simple as.

Smarter idea would've been to just put it download only to avoid this mess but looks like the Lego/WB guys wanted some more shelf space for their brand.

EDIT: The resolution for Nintendo would be to whack a big ugly sticker saying consumers need a massive download + internet requirement to play the game. That should deter publishers from making this practice common. It's simply false advertising if this became a tend and the only requirement was to put small labelling to spell this out for people.

If Nintendo were to eventually release a revision could they boost internal memory to please developers or does it just make more sense to basically require an ad card?

This is bullshit if the game won't start without the download.

I remember this was "brainstormed" by the Forza devs before the release of the XB1, to release an unplayable disc version without an online download. Of course MS fanboys defended it but the wider game community called it out for the bullshit it was and the devs soon backed down.

Forza 5 was developed while their always online vision was still there. Haven't been an issue since.

Mayne its not a requirement. Instead it is for faster loading. In the end, isnt the min size of the cartridge not 16 gig already?

This is some big ass bullshit. No buy. Hope this doesn't happen with other games. I buy physical so I won't have to download gigs and take up my hd space :/

Nintendo needs to stop with stupid ass digital prices must be same as retail prices policy . Never saw a backward company like them

This is common practice outside of sales prices though literally across the board. Physical retailers wouldn't stock Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo games if that was the case.

Nintendo: "First we follow suit with the season passes. Now some of the games on our platforms will copy other platforms and require a 13GB download. We're current gen now!"

It's kinda fascinating how many people are trying to blame the Switch's small internal storage for this...that's not the issue at all here folks.

So let me get this straight...

They thought "Let's sell an incomplete game on a cartridge instead of making our customers pay more."?

That's a bold strategy.

Yeah, this is down to:

- WB wanting to save money by using a smaller cartridge.

- Nintendo wanting Physical and Digital Prices the same (a rumour still as I'm sure there are some outliers).

This is shitty practice, I'm mostly going digital on the Switch because I dislike physical media for portable systems but going to skip this one regardless. Hopefully a lot of people do too and this doesn't become a thing.

Switch is your first internet connected console?

More fascinating is watching people defend it.

It's just irrelevant to this post.

The issue isn't that just that a game has a patch. It's that the game has a huge MANDATORY patch purely because they were too cheap to put the whole game on the cart.

Regardless of how you feel about switchs intenral storage, it's crappy for a publisher to do this.

Last time it happened was for that all-mighty
poo
disaster called Tony Hawk's Pro Skater V.

It's kinda interesting that no one seems to care that a lot of PC hard copies of don't come with 90% if the data either. option Sr the worst

The telltale games are also kinda guilty. Some of the physical ones (batman for example) are released with only one episode on the disc and then a code for the season pass. So that sucks too.

I don't mind that as much because at least it's episodic. But I still think they should just wait until they're all done.

But crap like this and thps 5 are complete crap. Not sure what the reasoning was with thps. But obviously the reasoning here is worthy of all the hate.

Telltale release their games before they are done. Lego City is done.

Tony Hawk was completely on the disc. Everything else is just a rumor. On the other hand the game was very buggy, but that's something completely different.

Yeah this is some bullshit. It's annoying enough having to download 15gb for PS4 games, let alone 13gb for a system with 32gb storage. No thanks WB.
