Did they explain who or what was behind the "restart" of the cycle that destroyed the bunker and took out all of the YoRHa units? I assume it happened because the commander found out the truth since 9S kept dying over and over?
That section was definitely Castlevania-inspired, and SOTN is probably the most famous CV, so I think it's a safe bet.I'm going to reach a lot here, so don't throw too many punches, but I get too many Castlevania Symphony of the Night vibes playing in the Forest Kingdom.
From entering from the forest with the drawbridge into the courtyard into the castle. The 2D layout. Some locations just giving me flashbacks to other locations like right in the beginning when you meet Death and he jacks your stuff. Heck the arches in the background are even there! *reachinggggg*
And maybe I am completely wrong but I just feel pretty confident due to the fact NIER had so many call backs to other types of gametypes/inspiration. We already see it in NIER AUTOMATA drawing from bullet time shooters, the MACROSS Valkyrie design for their ships, Kaiju battles in the ocean and here I believe some Castlevania inspiration.
CV:SOTN
N:A
Has anyone deciphered the weird writing?
I own both the OST and the World Guide for Automata, and this language appears in both. Just numbers and single letters. I was just looking through the book, and the page for the red girl has that same kind of writing. The three pages following that one show images that are distorted, like when system failure happens in Automata, and all three pages have that text. Those three pages would serve no other purpose if the code can't be cracked, so it must be readable somehow.
It's just part of what Project YoRHa is. The wars are in a constant ebb and flow where neither side ever has the upper hand for too long and stalemate is the intended result, because the machines need something to fight and the android command (higher up than the titular Commander) knows they're fighting on behalf of an extinct species. They opened the backdoor and destroyed the bunker because YoRHa was too close to winning.Did they explain who or what was behind the "restart" of the cycle that destroyed the bunker and took out all of the YoRHa units? End of the Unknown (Fight theme with Adam and Eve in the ship) is absolutely hilarious because it stands out so much from everything else in the game.

9S is part of the plan, but his death is just forestalling the inevitable. He's killed to keep from knowing too much at any one time.
That Emil song tho
It is *more* heartbreaking when you fight the 'superboss' Emil in the desert. The voicework in that fight is amazing. It cuts deep.I got to Emil -Despair- and oh my God, is this the track that plays in the Emil fights? I never went to fight him because how could you fight Emil and oh man, this is just heartbreaking.
when you think you ended Emil's despair after thousands of years, it's a good thing
I loved it
But there are still around 85,943,250 Emils left suffering

Yeah, I didn't fight him myself but watched a video (and I also played and loved the first Nier) and that was probably the best ending of Nier Automata for me actually. Best in that Yoko Taro, dark, sad and hopeless way.![]()
You know at first I did not like that song. I though it was merely ok on a soundtrack that could only be described as incredible. I felt it lacked subtlety and lyrics a bit too "on the nose." Then I got ending E and man changed my whole perspective on it. I really like it now.I've been listening. There have been a number of JRPG's that have had these pop power ballads like FF13's My Hands and I've just never really cared for them. But Weight of the World hits all the right notes and I don't really know why it resonates with me so much more than other similar songs.

Someone was translating it but stopped because they did not want to be spoiled. Knowing Taro he hid some good stuff in there I bet.Has anyone deciphered the weird writing?

just fight him you know you want to

If I had GIF skills of any kind I'd take a GIF of the parading robots and shoop them so they're throwing Pepsi instead of confetti
then pod 042 kicks the door downI wish that someway, somehow
That I can save every one of us
But the truth is that I'm only one girl

It is not that. Just roman letters, Arabic numbers, and random katakana saying stuff like タタカイツヅケル (the fight continues). The angelic writing on the resource towers in C path? I think that's Agrippa's Celestial alphabet.
For anyone looking to hear others talk about the game, I'm about halfway through this podcast (featuring our own GAF mod Xander Cage) and it's been great so far. Just a really interesting discussion by the four hosts about the game as a whole, without having to dance around spoilers or anything.

Found the post that gaffer made trying to translate some of that stuff:It is not that. Just roman letters, Arabic numbers, and random katakana saying stuff like タタカイツヅケル (the fight continues).
So I've got this artbook and just can't resist deciphering he rest of the code hidden in it, even if it might mean spoiling some of the game, because the thrill of being The First To Read It outweighs that.
And fortunately without context it doesn't feel like anything is spoiled -- though I may feel differently when I get to the end of the game.
At the very end of the artbook there are what looks like those Magic Eye things that were popular a decade or so ago (someone tell me if anything is hidden in them; I don't have the stereo vision to see Magic Eye). Along with that is a bunch ofhexadecimal numbers. Reading that as UTF-8, we get :
ワタシタチハチイサクヨワイシカシワタシタチハタスウデムテキデアルアンドロイドヲホロボスマデワタシタチハタタカイツヅケル
オロカナリシアンドロイドオロカナリシエイリアンオロカナリシジンルイヨ
ワタシタチハオオゼイデアルトドウジニヒトツデアルワタシタチハエイエンノセイメイデアル
This says (and boy does Japanese written in all katakana look creepy sometimes):
we are small and weak we will continue to fight the numerous and powerful androids until they are destroyed
foolish androids foolish aliens foolish humans
we are legion and at the same time we are one we are eternal life
Man, I love Nier. They sure do know how to hide secret stuff!
That was my experience, too.
Ending A- "Man, this song is bland as hell."
Ending B- "Ugh, they used that shitty song again? What a letdown."
Ending C- "Well, I guess it's pretty good."
Ending D/E- "BUT THE TRUTH IS THAT I'M ONLY ONE GIRLLLLLLL"
In addition to her final message, the blatantly sexual imagery and all of the Eva references make it clear that 2B loves 9S, but I will point out that CBO is 9S' weapon, the pronouns are gender neutral in Japanese, and 2B is more likely to be described as mysterious. It could fit either character, but there is more evidence in favor of it being 9S speaking.Great discussions, though I'd say that 2B pretty clearly loves 9S just from cruel blood oath and her final message.
But is it the Dark Souls of video game songs? Its the "Go Tell Aunt Rhody" of this generation IMO

A number of scenes in the game are strongly evocative of EoE, including that scene - especially in Route B when you have Spooky Ghost Voyeur observing the whole thing. And 2B gets on top of him, they stare into each other's eyes, she strokes his cheek, then she pushes him down, and they moan together for a minute. The sexual imagery would be comically overt if it wasn't so tragic. What Eva references? And I didn't take her sitting on top of him as a sign that she loves him, it was just... her sitting on top of him.
Even so, it'd be more sexual attraction than love.
How so?Eh, it doesn't really make sense for it to be from 9S's perspective though?

Haha, sorry. My fault for being lazyOh, Evangelion. I thought you were talking about the biblical character, and I was like "but Eve in the game has nothing to do with 2B", haha.
I never watched that anime, I wouldn't know~

When you then include the context of Taro's last "love scene" - Kaine beating the shit out of Nier - the evidence is stacked heavily in favor of 2B being romantically attracted to 9S.
How so?
That last part definitely sounds more like 2B speaking, but as you said, it can be seen as 9S accepting his role, and I don't think it's enough to overcome the opposing evidence. The last part especially. Unless it's about 9s accepting being brainstorm to be close to 2e which if so then, huh.
Why, when talking about 2b being in love with 9s do some just ignore them straight up planning a date? Smh that on its own is sooo blatant you would have to bend yourself over backwards twice not to see it.
I assume he's referring to the t-shirt date.Wait, when did this happen?
Wait, when did this happen?
No it's when you go there the second time.In the commercial center just before they first meet Emil.
I wonder if Yoko Taro would consider doing NieR 3 as a single ending game? I've only played the NieR games, so don't know if Drakengard games have single endings, but I'd like to see how Taro would pull it off in NieR.
