So you can't play party games with friends until like 10 hours in to the game? that's lame as fuck.
I actually cancelled my order a few minutes ago when I learned about this. Incredibly dissappointing that Nintendo can't make proper party matchmaking happen in 2017.

I'll pick it up sometime down the line when it's cheaper as it is really fun to play, and I'm glad impressions from here are so positive, but yeah, really not understanding some of these online decisions

You can still create private lobbies to play with your friends at any time. League battle is specifically playing with friends on one team versus strangers.

Maybe I missed something, but you can't matchmake in those private lobbies. So unless you have 7 friends, it's going to be a boring game.

Man, I feel as if I should be enjoying more weapon types, but the Splattershot is my most preferred. The balance of range and damage is just convenient for me personally. Allows me out to outrange the brush types, dual pistols in ranged encounters...and still lay down solid ink coverage.

The hovering ultimate leaves something to be desired, but it's a fair tradeoff.

Never thought I'd say this, but I've also mastered and prefer the gyro controls.

EDIT: Finally level 10. Took a while...but it was a blast nonetheless.

On any of the Off the Hook broadcasts, have they talked about which weapon Marina uses?

From the first game: Callie- Roller, Marie- Charger

Pearl has talked about the dualies, but I haven't seen anything about what Marina uses.

Edit: The game doesn't make you watch the broadcast every time it updates, just when you first start the game. That's neat.

So the only way you can play matchmaking with friends is through League Play...

First, you have to grind to level 10. Then you have to grind C- to B-. This is made more difficult since the modes are switching and you also lose points.

That makes a lot of sense.

This game is so good. Love that feeling of splatting someone and then stepping backwards and shooting off those Tentamissles. It's been interesting trying to figure out the ideal distance for them, to take advantage of that mini-Echo.

Starting to feel like the outer ring is the key to Humpback Pumptrack Turf. You control the outside, you can kinda take over the middle whenever you want. Feels like it should be the other way around, but the middle hill is super exposed and dangerous.

I haven't seen a single japanese name yet in turf war lobbies. This is weird.

I'm getting kind of concerned... Did Nintendo region-lock the matchups? I feel like they would've announced that in advance, but it is extremely bizarre. I used to have entire lobbies of Japanese players after 9 PM Eastern in the original Splatoon. Lobbies are taking awhile to fill up.

GGs, by the way. Thanks for the games!
(I still have no idea what I'm doing on Port Mackerel, lol.)

Same with me on the splattershot. I'm using the aerospray and the lack of damage on the opposing team is pretty bad, I'm just going to go back to it.

they're probably just ping dependent. trust me, i've been getting slammed by jpn players all morning

So what's the best first upgrade to buy in the ' ammo knights Enhancifier?

Bigger ink tank. From there you can get the level 3 tank or just sit on resources until you get stuck on a level and need to buy the upgrade.

Realistically I would just max out your ink tank and then save up to upgrade whichever weapon you want to unlock in multiplayer.

i've seen about two Japanese players in my entire time with the retail Splatoon 2

looks like matchmaking does lean more heavily on region

That sucks, then. I get the latency thing and that is a huge concern, but I am concerned that I don't have access to, like, half of the Splatoon playerbase now.

I miss Japan. :(

How long do they ban you for disconnects? I got booted from 2 matches today due to connection issues and I was met with the message. I like the idea of it but sucks when there's legit issues, like a thunderstorm going on.

I think I like Salmon Run better than PvP. Figures that Nintendo would be dumb and pointlessly restrict it though, after all we wouldn't want players having TOO much fun!

Holy shit this is beautiful. Been playing all day in handheld and the battery just died. Need to get to level 10 to get my ink brush on.

Goddamn I've missed this.

How do I get amiibo items? Only have the head pieces for OG amiibo, but I saw a dude at only level 9 with full squid cyber set on.

.

I'm really glad they make you fight each of the boss types during the tutorial for Salmon Run. Wasn't expecting that but it was good to make the player learn how to play the mode instead of just tossing them in. Only managed to get one run in today before it closed but it was fun.

Unknown. I doubt it might be for a long time. Can't see it being more then an hour personally but I don't think they've used a system like this before. We might have to wait and see if someone gets hit with it.

So, how soon before newcomers realize how sick this gun for turf war? Then we see Aerosprays everywhere.

I partly forbid myself from using it in the original game, but I took it for a spin today. Felt as great as it ever did!

Patiently waiting for Tentatek with suction bombs sub. Gonna sorely miss my inkzooka though. :(

aerospray was always ridiculously popular in the original so thatd be nothing new

I think you have to unlock all the slots for the head piece, at least once I did that and scanned my amiibo I got the rest of the set
edit: or like that yeah^ wasn't sure myself, couldn't find a guide for it

Hoping it's not super long. I generally don't have issues but every so often late at night my internet will just randomly cut out. Happens with my roku and wifi quite a bit. Guess it's a waiting game. Hopefully the counter resets after so many hours.

Rookie question: how do I get to the "enemy base" in Humpback Pumptrack? I can get to the "lip" of it, but all the surfaces seem to be paint resistant. I know it's accessible, though, because I've warped there when more knowledgeable players have blazed the trail.

I hope the answer isn't too embarrassingly obvious! Thanks!

This was always going to be the case for me. I much prefer co-op experiences over competitive. I'm gutted I can't play this mode all the time.

I had really severe internet problems tonight and got disconnected 5 times in less than an hour (everyone on my teams, I'm really really sorry), but I wasn't put in online timeout (got the "this is suspicious" message tho). So they seem pretty lenient.

Does anyone else keep instinctively looking down to check the map? And not even at the end of the game. After getting splatted, I keep looking down at my hands, expecting to see the map being inked.

It's fun playing around with looking at the mini-map when swimming back from spawn. On Port Mackerel with those long, empty hallways, it's really useful to look. Moray too.

Despite my earlier assumption that I didn't think I would be able to play this game in handheld mode, I've gotten used to it,

This is probably a bad thing. I have no excuse to not play splatoon at all times.

Question about using a UK card to buy from the SA store - if I switch my region to SA, purchase, then switch back to UK, is there any chance of my current eshop balance being wiped? Also, won't there usually be bank charges associated with converting to the currency?

How do food tickets work? Their effects expire, right? So I should probably stock up on them and save them for sometime when it matters that I win?
