Anyone use the Rapid Blaster? Thoughts?
It is amazing :O

The Rapid Blaster main weapon itself deals 85 damage if you hit an enemy directly with the explosive shot, otherwise deals 35 damage in an area around the explosion as long as it doesn't come in contact with map geometry. The explosive shot can travel a fairly long distance, they shoot out fast (for a Blaster) and they deal splash damage. Great for both defense and pressure. I'm seriously quite happy with Rapid Blasters in Splatoon 2 over what they were like in Splatoon 1.

Ink Mines stay hidden in ink and explode on enemies that come near, or if it gets covered in enemy ink. Upon exploding (which is actually pretty fast now) it deals 35 damage and tags any enemies it hits within the blast radius. And you can have 2 of them down at a time. But really what's amazing about Ink Mines is all the extra information they give. You get little speech bubbles on your screen to show where your Ink Mines are and they pop up with a little crossed out Ink Mine in a speech bubble when they explode. Incredibly useful for deterring would be flankers and invaders, and for keeping track of the field beyond your direct vision.

Splat Bomb Launcher is pretty awesome, I don't know how much of an explanation it needs.

No split screen, no bots. That's some half assed shit if you ask me. I love the SP campaign but it's short.
Split screen is a big trade off, the Switch isn't powerful enough to make it a similar experience. I can see, why Nintendo didn't want to give them the headache to implement it.
At least its a portable system, so you can easily play with other people together in one room as long as they have the game too.

Bots would actually be great. It's wired, that they don't have them as an options, since there are bots in the single-player-mode.

Again it's just an extra mode and most people will not play it. Which could mean, that you will waste time in the lobby waiting for other people to join. By making fixed times, limit the mode and give away prices, more people play it at those times. It's a smart way to get people play a extra mode and not have a bad experience by long waiting times.

Then fucking let me wait in the queue for 20 minutes if I want to wait for it, or don't even put it in the game if you don't expect or want people to play it in the first place. Or hey, maybe at least wait until interest does die down before trying to stagger your content like that.

I know some nintendo fans will defend anything, but this is some incredible levels of denial of how incredibly stupid this decision is. Have you played any other shooter on any other system?

Wanna know how to fix this? Make it possible to leave the lobby instead of being stuck unless you close the game or wait forever for it to time out.

Map knowledge is important in every shooter but I don't know of any other shooters that restrict the map pool like the Splatoon series does.

Maybe some people are fine with it but I find playing the same 2 maps over and over again pretty boring. It gets especially bad when you play the same maps 3 or 4 times in a row, which I've had happen to me several times already.
I would find it much better, if Nintendo would include an option to open public rooms. So that people can create their own fun (changing maps and rules) and keep the comparative mode as predictable and limit as they need to be.

Yeah, this is one of more than a few things that make me feel like this is essentially a playable beta. Splatoon 2 frustrates me at times because the core gameplay loop is incredible and undeniably joyous, but the supporting structures are really underdeveloped and I feel so much potential was squandered.

Tomorrow, 7am to 7am. Looking at the schedule it looks like it's on every other day and all weekend, at least initially. I'm guessing they're limiting it to keep interest up in it or something. If it's always there maybe people will get bored of it.

That doesn't make much sense either. A week or two on and then a few weeks off would, like Blizzard does in all their games, but something like every other day forever doesn't seem like it would extend people's interest all that much to me.

i used to stay on 24/7 tf2 2fort servers so eh

i get it though

I didn't think I'd be bothered about Salmon Run being time limited but I absolutely love it and its a bummer that I can't just always play it.

Actually the first Splatoon released with five stages originally:

- Arowana Mall
- Blackbelly Skatepark
- Saltspray Rig
- Urchin Underpass (now a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Battle stage)
- Walleye Warehouse
I think Arowana Mall and Walleye Warehouse came later. I remember that was the moment when the discourse changed and people started realizing how terrifying chargers could be. Suddenly everyone started using them, specially in AM.

Had no problem with it this weekend because it was basically available all day saturday and sunday but it stings even more since you have to stick with it a bit to get prizes.

At least it seems like a good way to earn money and this month equipement had 3 sub capacity slots.

All you're points are much worse in comparison to just have fixed times. People don't need to wait, they can include an extra mode, which doesn't die off right away, and they don't need to save it after its died off.
So you want a worse overall experience or no extra experience at all, just for the trade off you could maybe play it at all time. This is very narrow minded.

I know some nintendo fans will defend anything, but this is some incredible levels of denial of how incredibly stupid this decision is.
And i know, if people run out of arguments, they just try to position them as superior to undermine the other party. I would love, those kind of attacks would be bannable on NeoGaf.

Have you played any other shooter on any other system?
Yes and like i said many side-modes just died off, since people were waiting too long to find enough players. It makes sense to limit the mode, so that players find enough players.

Wanna know how to fix this? Make it possible to leave the lobby instead of being stuck unless you close the game or wait forever for it to time out.
This doesn't change anything. You still have an extrem unpopulated mode all the time, instead of an highly populated mode a few times.

So that you have people to play with. Salmon Run isn't the main multiplayer mode, so most people will not play it. But if you only make it available at some specific times, the chance of getting enough players, is much higher.
I know other popular games, were some modes were wastelands, since they weren't the popular ones. Making those limitation is great to keep the whole game alive and make many players happy.

"You cant Play the Mode whenever you want so that you always find Games whenever you want to play!"

This Argument doesnt make any Sense, especially this close to Launch. Maybe, maaaaybe after 2 years, when the Servers get emptier? And even then it would be shitty to take the choice away from the consumer.

Just curious, what's the HP of inklings?

I like the Rapid Blaster but I suck at aiming it.

It's 100.

I think for blasters it's easier to aim if you fire from a distance of about the max range, since even if you fail to land a direct hit, the blast will go off and hit the enemy.

It's short sighted, reacting to a appreciable problem only after it becomes a problem. Also "2 years" is pretty much just a guess. It could also happen in two weeks. Who knows. Better be save then sorry.

I find it very bad, that people see "limitations" as a negative element for "consumers". Limitation are a great tool and can create much better experiences overall.
Nintendo is sometimes very stupid by enforcing those limitations (as a Smash fan, they can be very annoying), but i argue, it's a good idea in this case.

Salmon Tun should be 24/7 it earns mad god gold so no way it will die out anytime soon and with only 5 or so total modes in the game searhig for players won't be a problem.

Heck cod and bf sometimes have 10+ modes. Sure their playerbase is bigger but Splatoon 2 is gonna sell multi millions wich is enough to sustain 5 modes.

I have no clue how the top for Splatzone is made. I just had a game with 15 kills and 5 times using the curling bomb special, each time taking the zone back and I was last in my team although I practically turned around the situation in this game.

If it is anything like the first game, your position on the scoreboard in any Ranked Mode is based on your recent win percentage (last 10 games in splatoon 1), not on your Kill /special performance. You being lowest on the scoreboard means that you have the lowest win percentage on your team.

They implemented this change partway through Splatoon 1's life to better emphasise consistency in performance over kill/death performances per game.

But consistency has no relevance when the teams are continuously randomised. So I'm penalised for getting poor teams beyond those games too. Nice.

This game is pretty addicting. My major frustration so far with turf war is everyone focusing on killing each other instead of getting that ink out.

Those who say the Aerospray MG is bad at ranked is fucking kidding themselves a team of 3 Aerosprays can curling bomb spam a splat zone endlessly and there's no EMP or anything to stop this bollocks the matchmaker hits you with

Those really need to learn this ain't team deathmatch and start inkin some turf. Lost most of my games due to this issue.

To paraphrase a famous quote: the better you get, the luckier you get

Yeah, but first I need some damn luck in matchmaking to get out of the C- cesspool in splatzones. Which is the rank mode I like the least. In the other modes I'm already feeling pretty lucky.

Those who say the Aerospray MG is bad at ranked is fucking kidding themselves a team of 3 Aerosprays can curling bomb spam a splat zone endlessly and there's no EMP or anything to stop this bollocks the matchmaker hits you with

Aerospray MG is pretty nice in splatzones because of the curling bomb spam which can take back the zone, but pretty useless in the other two modes.

Man, I just found out that since Salmon run only runs from 8AM - 8PM in my timezone that means I can't play it before I go to work and I'll only get about a 2.5 - 3 hr window to play when I get home.

On top of that since it runs every other day I'll only get 1 weekend day to play it.

I love the game but this time limit is really silly.

I hope they change it in the future.
They won't

Guys, do abilities stack?

Also, what exactly is the freshness bonus?

Abilities stack but with diminishing returns. Freshness bonus is what you get the first time you hit a number of freshness levels, which is a per-weapon performance tracker that goes up with victories and down with losses.

It's a brand new game where you have a mix if seasoned vets, people with an OK understanding of the game, and complete newbies. Of course the distribution is going to be whacked in the first few weeks. It works as intended when the ranking system starts hitting steady state and people are actually in the ranks they belong at. Be reasonable.

Don't think too much of it right now and just focus on playing the game instead of blaming your team, even if it IS their fault. The only variable you can control is yourself; if people want to use your scoreboard position of all things to judge you, that's on them, not you. Focus on what you can do and forget the rest.

Tunnel visioning on any aspect of the game is indeed a bad idea, but a dead squid can't put down turf or counter pressure from the enemy team. 2 players Vs an enemy team of 4 will have a much harder time holding back an assault into their half of the map than if the whole team was alive. And even when the whole team is back, they then need to fight back and push through the territory they lost.

Don't discount the value of slayers... provided they actually lay down SOME turf every now and then as well. lol

If 3 aeosprayers can get off their specials in one go consistently it's your fault for not killing them before they built it up.

There's a balance, though. I mean, I don't go looking for kills but I see a lot of people advising disengaging from firefights to focus elsewhere and I'm not sure I agree; it's important to hold territory. Also, I do sometimes start scouting for kills in the last third of a match if we're defending a lead, since that respawn time becomes increasingly critical.

Lmao, in the non-skippable banter announcing the new arenas, the following dialogue happened regarding league battle:

"I like to just roll around on that stage."

"I know, but there is such a thing as victory conditions."

They're watching the games, apparently.

Weird how they're handling it in different regions, it appears to be running 7am-7am tomorrow for me.

Yeah agreed, i play in a balance way too that is the best i think. But focussing too much on the one or other can work out badly.

Walleye Warehouse was at launch.

Nah, they were definitely all in at launch. Port Mackerel was the first new map, followed by Kelp Dome.

This article has all the maps along with their launch dates.

Port Mackerel was the first DLC stage. This information can easily be found online.

http://splatoon.wikia.com/wiki/Stages
I was wrong then, it was Port Mackerel where chargers became apparently useful for Turf Wars with those long corridors and when a lot of people started using them for the other maps. I remember people saying it was "Nintendo's gift to chargers".

Yea man just kill them!

Bullshit.

The gun is basically unmatched up close and what's the point trying to outrange them when curling bombs beat any attempt at inking towards ay sort of target.

It's probably the quickest built up super in the game

But I don't worry about me. I'm worrying about others getting the wrong message. For example in that game I was talking about on the first position was a guy who had 1 kill and no specials used. And at the end of the game he got the message that he was the best of the team so he should keep doing what he is doing. And we won, so he will be still up there for the future games too.

Holy shit how the fuck are you supposed to ever be able to level up in ranked? All my teammates are idiots who don't understand the rules.
