Currently I'm playing Splatoon 2 and I'm having a blast, I'm not that good but sometimes I need to carry my team to win and it feels great. Currently I'm using Aerospray MG for Turf Wars and a Roller for Ranked Rainmaker.

I'm using stick controls because you cannot control the vertical Axis using motion.

All I hear in the lobby

That man took me backpack
Chocolate in ma backpack
That man took me backpack
Makes me wanna beatbox

I heard Splatoon 2 is almost too good.

I heard it makes the first one obsolete

_________

Anyways, first time playing Ranked Mode and...

I am deceased!

This is hard as nails lol, so competitive ;_;

I want to shrink down Pearl and put her in my pocket. She is precious.

Actually, probably don't need to shrink her, she's such a shorty.

Welcome to Neogaf! Always glad to have another stick user here to stand up against the hordes of Gyro users.

How's the Aerospray working out? I've heard some people swear by it in Turf War, but I'm always put off by how low the range. I figure you're gonna get murdered by anyone with a decently ranged Splattershot.

I've been using Aerospray for all of yesterday, amazing weapon. You just need to get in close range as a squid, get out and spray. The rate of fire makes for almost instant kills if you are in close proximity. And it's pretty wide so you don't have to have perfect aim.

is it me, or whenever i do the squid jump i'm immediately killed by the enemy team when i land?

From my short time playing the game you should be careful with who you're jumping to, pay attention to where the players are on the map and if a lot of enemy ink is showing up on that spot. Also, swimming along pathways doesn't feel like it takes that much longer to get back into the game.

I figured that was the case. I guess it's like a Pseudo-Roller or Inkbrush then? Just sneak up on dudes and gank them?

I'd try it, but I still like having a bit of precision with my shots. That and the Curling Bomb launcher seems eh to me.

Opponents can see where you are about to land, so they camp the spot. Either get Gear with the ability that hides this marker, or be smarter about when and where you super jump.

There's also the gear ability to let you roll as you land from a super jump. Can throw people off too. Probably won't work against more than 1 guy but hey, it's something.

Am I supposed to be constantly buying new multiplayer gear even if it has bonuses I don't want? 20k seems so expensive for pulling out ability shards. The progression on that stuff feels really slow. Am I missing something?

It's 20k to pull out the ability chunk, and then it takes 10 or 20 chunks to affix them to a piece of gear. So yes, definitely very slow. Crafting your own custom gear is end-game content. There are people (ahem, like me), who logged 700+ hours on the first Splatoon and had maxed money and 100+ super sea snails with nothing to spend it on. So the 10 chunks thing doesn't faze me at all.

If you're just starting out and not sure what your end game will be like, I wouldn't worry too much about the gear. Just buy what looks nice - buy 3-star equipment when you can since they have more sub-abilities.

If you have extra money lying around, I would buy every shirt, hat, and shoes when they become available in the store. New equipment is rotated in everyday, so you might have to wait a while for the equipment you want to become available again if you pass it up the first time

Just played a few hours for the first time. Played Splat1 quite a lot (90-100 hours? Mostly turf wars), I am LOVING Splatoon 2. These new stages and specials make me feel like I'm learning the game all over again. The specials so far (I'm just lvl 6) are taking me a while to get used to, but I really want to use the baller. Another note, I really wish the dodge roll of the dualies was on L or something instead of replacing jump when firing, ugh.

The controls are taking me a while to get used to as well, who knew I'd miss the bulky Wii U gamepad so much. At the end of every match I look down expecting to see the map, haha. Split joy cons have a lot of freedom, but I find my aim isn't as steady. Grip is surprisingly good, but it's just so LIGHT. Think I'll be ordering a Pro controller tbh.

The other side can see you coming; if they're in range of your landing point, you're dead. Superjumping into an active firefight is just dumb. Honestly, super jumping in general is rarely useful, since the area you can safely jump too is often reachable with the same speed just by squidding from the start.

You will be murder by any weapon with range with an Aerospray 9/10. 7-8/10 if you're really good. The trick is surprise and ambush. If you use Ninja Squid, it works very well with an Aerospray.

Hold on... Where are all the Japanese players? I saw one the other night and didn't think anything of it. In the first Splatoon I almost never had a match without a Japanese player in it. I want to see names I don't know how to read damnit!!!!!

That's a damn good point. Those fuckers are fierce too! :o

Or get a weapon that Special is the drive bomb ink move. There is also a weapon that allows you to roll when you Super Jump.

Haven't won a single game in the splatfest or the main game on Humpback Pump Track. Always seems to be one team absolutely steamrolling the other.

Am I wrong in thinking that the plain ol' Splattershot is just a solid, well rounded weapon?

Great ink coverage, and pretty decent range and rate of fire for 1 on 1 fights.

The Tentatek edition is superior to the original. The Pro depletes its reservoir too quickly for my taste.

I never super jump, y'all fools if you think there's ground worth jumping over, always something to paint on your end. Now if we've pushed them all the way to their spawn point? Then you jump to apply pressure.

How effective is the super jump -> SplatDown move? Pretty much everyone I see super jumps from spawn to get back into the fight, and you wouldn't have a full special meter if you just spawned.

Are the versions actually different in terms of stats? I thought they just had different bombs and specials.

Nope! It's always been solid, just more will gravitate to the Tentatek due to the inkjet. At least this time around the kit isn't absolutely bonkers in being hard to stop in this game.

How do you extract abilities from gear?

It has its uses in ranked even without Stealth Jump, but yeah, turf war i never ever superjump. Even getting splatted only takes a few more seconds.

Did they bring back Stealth Jump as a skill or did that get voided?

I'm remembering how bizarre and catchy the single player's music is. They seem to have lifted it whole-cloth from Splatoon 1, and it's just as odd but mesmerizing as it was before.

You're right. I guess that's what I had in mind when I thought that it was the better weapon.

Stealth Jump is there. I have it.

I don't think I'm using the motion controls properly since I'm moving like a kid playing Mario Kart.

I agree, but there's plently of people that attack the spawn point quite dumbly, and I've done a LOT of kills by super jumping and attacking just on landing.

I wouldn't try this in ranked, but during splatfest, it's doable...
