God, I hate those Suction Bombs on Tower Control.

You have to wait until after you've spawned before you can jump to a teammate. You're not actually spawning on them, you're just teleporting to them after you've spawned. You can do it at any point in the game you are alive, not just after dying.

Um never mind. I guess in the last half hour I actually did half decent in Tower Control?
I did switch to the N-ZAP later, but mostly because I was trying out half a dozen different weapons and it ended up feeling the best.
I think sometimes people misunderstand that I don't mean to say that you have to do this or that to win. You can absolutely win just going for points, ignoring fights etc. But to win consistently against good players you need to learn that there is more to the game than just racking up points. Control, teamwork, attention to the map, knowing when to push and when to retreat, staying alive, specials, kills, points. These all add up and without them you will struggle.
Will you win everytime? No. Team comps and skill vary and so will your success. But understanding the elements of success will help you immensely.

I should probably expand on that sentence because I don't think that getting a bunch of kills is required to win. However it can really help. Killing spreads ink from the blast and allows your team to gain a better position as well as taking a player out of the game for over 8 seconds. This affect adds up and can mean minutes of lost time. What matters in turf is control. Kills (or rather more correctly, deaths), special use, and points/turf all help towards gaining control. If all you have is one of those things it is very hard to gain and keep control of the map. In that image I quoted the enemy team had a good amount of points, 3x the kills and 3x the special use. They should win 9/10 games with that performance. I don't think he'd have won even if his whole team had over 800 points because the enemy had the most important thing. Map control.

Yupyup. To add to what Catvoca said, after you highlighted a target with the dpad or with your gyro cursor, press A to jump to the target. Down on the dpad will always jump to your spawn pad, and the other three directions will be your teammates.

Ohhh okay thanks! The process seems confusing, I thought you could CHOOSE your spawn location, at least that's what I thought was the cursor for in the map screen. I am pretty sure I tried all the available dpad directions and nothing worked, I will give it another shot.

How? I haven't seen any indication I can join Salmon Run. Is it in the lobby? I thought it was blocked until I reached level 10, but I just did that today and nobody has mentioned anything yet...
Well, I'm already done for today. I guess I'll check tomorrow.

Salmon Run is a timed event. Like 8am est to 8pm est.
Go to Grizzco (either by Menu or by going to the left side of the lobby area). That's where you can play Salmon Run.
It's not level restricted btw like the ranked mode. It's just scheduled.

You just need to be level 4 to start Salmon Run. It's just off to the left and up the ramp of the main multiplayer lobby.

The schedule varies a lot. Check it on the menu.

Splat Roller used to be an instakill for me, but now I can bump into enemies or whack them several times without killing them, and then they splat me dead with their dualies, what's going on...?

Even in S, no one's pushing left with the rainmaker on Sturgeon Shipyard. Does no one realize it's possible? It's so much easier to defend the rainmaker that route...
EDIT: Also, there's definitely something going on with global matchmaking. I haven't seen a Japanese player once, and now I'm having trouble filling an S lobby. Something's weird here.

Possibly ink resistant clothing, at earlier levels most didn't have any.

or maybe aussies are just lucky to be in Jpn timezone and regional preference. but honestly that should make your path through ranked even easier assuming you're in NA cos all the splatnewbs should be grist for your mill

There's a regional preference? It seems like a straight up lock to me. Can't fill an S lobby right now, which was never in issue in the first game. (For reference, it's 4:50 am here on the east coast of the US. I should really be going to bed anyway, but this has me curious.)

I'm wondering about the numbers too. There's like 5-6 people everytime before we time out, and 2-3 of us are the same each time lol. I haven't seen a Japanese player at all, having played everyday since launch, which seems suspicious.

Aight, I'm going to bed now, but PSA: If you're playing ranked right now and don't know the left route for the rainmaker on Sturgeon Shipyard, I strongly suggest you go try it on recon. I've won a couple games just because I was the only guy who knew the route. It requires a couple jumps, but it's well worth finding.

Painting the base towards the end of a Rainmaker match can be okay if you're defending a lead. It takes less Inklings to delay progress than make progress, so you can have some risk insurance by making the potential fastest paths that much slower. I mean, not everywhere, but doubling back to cut routes off is decent play.
Sorry for the meltdowns, it's just incredibly frustrating that I can't play the mode I actually want to play because of this ranked bullshit. It's especially frustrating when the other team seems to always know what to do but your team doesn't. I don't understand this matchmaking.
