anything that's invincible until it starts its attack sucks ass.

You can actually destroy a Flyfish after it opens but before the missiles launch, but it requires dodging-a-Blue-Shell-in-Mario-Kart levels of timing.

Question for those who own the game. I realize this is a team based shooter, but how is the single player mode? I've played Zelda to death and want to pick something up, but I don't usually gravitate toward team shooters.
Single player is fun but relatively short. It has some creative level design and gets you good exposure to the different weapon types available.

If competitive team play is a no go, take a look at the Salmon Run cooperative mode; it's 4 players versus waves of enemies and bosses. I'd encourage trying out the regular Turf Wars mode a few times, though; it's not much like other team shooters out there.

There is also Salmon Run and honestly i normally hate team shooters or competitove games but i like Splatoon.

The singleplayer is pretty neat but it's only 6 hours, it does have alot of replay value with the different weapons but if you don't atleast play some Salmon Run too it's imo not worth 60 bucks. If you do like to play salmon run (the coop orde mode) too then it imo is although it sadly is not always available so maybe it's the best to also try turf war it's one of the most casual multiplayer modes i ever played so that's why i like it so much probably.

And ranked mode puts you with equal skilled players based on rank so it's not a total slaughter. Same for turf war it also has some kind of balance with matchmaking.

And i suck terribad at shooters normally but do fine up to fantastic in Splatoon and finish first regulary enough.

And i usually also never gravitate to team shooters or competitive games. Only played the horde/coop modes mostly in competitive/pvp games. Splatoon is the exception in that case for me. And gta and red dead redemption online lol but that feels also more coop like in a way.

So, how exactly does the gear unlock work? Do the stores just have random things, or are they changing when I level up? How do I get the sweet stuff?

Stores update daily, and refresh their items seemingly randomly. Leveling up unlocks new weapons, and if you scroll through the weapons you can see at what level they unlock. If you download the nintendo switch app for your phone, there is another gear store that has (usually) different items than the stores. New items cycle in and out every few hours.

Two Sea Eels, high tides.

Double Grillers in High Tide are no fun either. Those small fry the pump out at so annoying. Especially since no one throws bombs to take em all out.

I will say though, I played a solid 3.5 hours of Salmon run last night. I can see why its time gated. I made over 40k in bonuses and got to the second helmet. If I had time I would have played for the second ultra bonus. That stuff can add up fast and can make getting good gear a little too easy.

Granted, I want more. I'd like a specific Salmon run mode thats just Goldfish and the fast zombie salmon for three increasingly harder waves. I'd like specific boss challenges too and I'd like to see them add new/bigger bosses that come in intervals are are in effect the only boss in the stage.

Salmon run is the reason to own this game and having it time gated sucks. There, I said it.

I also have to admit that splatoon could/should have a king of the hill type mode but the 8 player limit they have makes that harder, but man it'd be neat to have one or two larger maps with weapon spawn points so you could try different gear would be cool.

I guess I just need to focus on getting high enough to play ranked again. I wasn't a huge fan of ranked in the first game but it seems like at some point it is the best place to got to level up in Two. I also hate getting pared with people who have played infinitely more than I have. Clearly they aren't using any kind of skill based match making, or at least it doesn't appear as such when I get pared with people more than 10-15 levels higher and clearly more experienced.

How much of a boost do Opening Gambit and Last Ditch Effort give to their respective stats anyway? I'm more curious about Opening Gambit because apparently that Special Forces Beret is never going to show up on SplatNet, but I'm just wondering if the boosts are really worth not having a main skill in that slot for the rest of a match.

Steel Eels are only bad when people stupidly wrap them up in circles.

That's the main reason Steel Eels are dumb, but they can still be bad if they catch you in a pincer maneuver. Last night on a low tide round me and two other guys ran out to get eggs when two Steel Eels spawned on each side of the round sandbar with no room to the side of them to get past them. We just slowly had to wait for death at that point.

You can also order one item per day that a player in your plaza is wearing (press A to inspect them, then press ZL.) Keep in mind that when buying from Murch (via other players or the app catalog) you can overwrite an item you already have if you like its main ability better, but buying from shops you can't. If there's an item you particularly like the looks of you should be able to pick between a couple different main abilities if you're patient.

finally made it to profreshional ! and reached 110 !
So. good Salmon run today.

Still. Had one match wih 3 flyfish and got destroyed.
Another loss happening at the absolute final second of the final wave.
Both were some painful losses

Can someone please explain why it is so incredibly common to have teammates who simply do no have a clue how to play Salmon Run and yet have somehow reached the top ranks. How does this happen.

I found a new 'joy'. High tide and fog. Geez, how did I survive it?

I have never ran into half of these terrible players. When I lose, it's usually because we got overwhelmed, not because the team was dumb. Except for a few where people won't put the eggs in the basket.

I want to see a Salmon Run mode where they give everyone curling bombs instead of splat bombs and introduce bosses with slots you have to slide the curling bombs into to destroy.

Cool, I deranked after 2 straight wave 1 wipes. Can't wait to derank all the way back to the beginning and then smash this fucking piece of shit game to pieces.

Soooo I'm not sure what unique abilities are... Do all weapons have one unique ability + 1-3 abilities and the difference is that I can't ever change the unique ability of an item?

My hope would be that at some point, they adjust Salmon Run and make the flyfish's recycling bins larger. It'd make it a bit easier to lob bombs at him to take him down without really sacrificing what makes them dangerous.

Them and Drizzlers are both a pain to deal with because their moments of weakness are fairly short and their attacks can launch from anywhere and affect the whole field without necessarily revealing themselves, making it really easy for one to spawn unnoticed and quickly wreck the game unchecked. At least the Stingers immediately reveal their position by attacking, and other bosses have to get in close. The combination of long periods of invulnerability, long distance and high ink-coveage attacks, and high resources needed to kill (in either time, ink, proper/lucky positioning) make those two bosses a particularly big pain in the ass to deal with.

So I was a C- when I first started Ranked in Splat Zones. I ranked up once and went to C+. That seemed odd. Also there is a little yellow line on my rank up bar now and when I got past it it just said "ok". I am confused lol

drizzler missiles also are a bit too short imho and very difficult to see, esp on the handheld screen

also the fucking things don't auto-blast back towards the drizzler? you have to aim them back! utter shite because positioning is near-impossible while you're getting swarmed.

Drizzlers are more fair than Flyfish because you can at least shoot the rain generators out of the sky if you're on point. Flyfish are total bullshit. They're one of the only bosses that a single player can't kill before they get an attack off or in a reasonable amount of time, and because they require bombs you can't be shooting other smaller salmon that inevitably run up to harass you while you're waiting for it to open up.

Seriously, when I had the .96 Gal last night, I was basically useless against any of the Flyfish because each normal shoot takes so much ink that trying to fight off normal salmon meant no ink for bombs. Flyfish take at least two people to fight, which most of the other bosses don't really require.

Salmon run is awesome to farm chunks... once you're over 1.5k points (or so... I think) you get the gear over and over and over and since you already have it it will ask you wether you want 3 chunks or the gear replaced...

You can jump ranks now. I went from C- to B last night in Zones mode.
No clue about that yellow line though, but I got the same.

are they invincible to inkzooker missiles?

flyfish suck ass.

I hate the Flyfish, too! They shoot across the whole map and are actually a little challenging to kill - compaired to Stingers who can shoot across the whole map but are really easy to kill.
Once a second Flyfish spawms before you took out the first one your team is DONE.

The Drizzlers are evil since they give you death by a thousand cuts. I can't tell you how many times I died because I stood in the toxic rain too long because the path way was filled with the enemy's ink and I couldn't swim.

Also, after two games in which my team just barely survived, seriously we should have wiped, I reached 90 on Professional and decided not to press my luck and called it for this session of Salmon Run.

Best session so far thanks to good teams and the weapons.

You can shoot the Drizzler thing when he shoots it up in the air - didn't know that and it makes dealing with them at leas a little easier!

No, I've sniped a few flyfish out of the air during the turret rounds before. You have to hit the inside of their bins to actually damage them, though.

Oh ! Didn't know that works! Thank you!

i wouldn't mind if their damn baskets were always open or some shit.

things you can't deal with until they open up fucking suck

I had a Gal and took out a Flyflish by myself. Then again, I know the Gal well since it's my main weapon next to the Aero.

Fly Fish opens it's missile launchers. Two grenades sail right into each bucket. Dies immediately. Such a once in a lifetime experience

Happened to me, too! ...
in the tutorial. In real life 4 grenades fly towards it.
two of them land in the same bucked the other two on the floor.
