I organized a lan-party at the office, there were 6 of us at the office and 1 remote. We got into a bunch of issues to get everyone playing together. So I have a bunch of questions.

1. When trying to join friends online, it seems that you cannot join if 4 of your friends are already playing together in a game. It doesn't put them on a wait list, just kills it. Is that a known limitation?

2. Playing on local wifi worked, but private online lobby did not (we had a friend remote that wanted to join the fun). Are there different router expectations for private lobbies than for regular online?

3. Is there a way to play all together online and still level up?

1. Not sure here, but this being limited wouldn't surprise me.

2. Can you elaborate further? What do you mean by local wifi? How did the private online room not work?

3. AFAIK, no, not past 4 people.
 
Is there a point to splatfest other than re-rolling the shirt? As far as benefits go. I haven't been able to play much today and probably won't get but an hour or so in tonight. Am I gonna miss some shit?

As mentioned above me, Super Sea Snails, which are used for rerolling gear, and adding ability slots to gear with only 1 or 2 slots.

You can unlock all ability slots for any clothing item using sea snails. So if you have a favorite clothing item that isn't 3 stars, well there you go.
 
I'm really, really liking the Inkbrush lately.

It's such an awesome weapon when you like to rush. I'm making it my main from now on. So much fun rushing around getting peeps in the back! Especially snipers are fun. Most of the times I just swim and strafe/run towards them then slap 'em in the face :P
 
Got to Ketchup King finally. Teammates were doing me no favors. Got somewhere in the 1800 point range for power level, but I maxed out at around 1900. Felt like the game was punishing me for picking the Splattershot Pro as much as I did by pairing me with people incapable of putting down ink well. Come on guys. The Pro's good for killing first and foremost. It can't compare to stuff like the N-Zap or the Aerospray when it comes to ink.

Just based on my matches though, I'm feeling like Mayo's taking this. Ketchup will win the popularity contest easy, but there are so many bad Ketchup players.

I felt the same way through the whole Splatfest. Teammates were doing badly, Mayo kept winning more often, but I did finish up as Ketchup King.

Also, Mayo teams constantly had Tri-Slosher/Inkbrush combos and it made me hate life.

Basically. So far today I have gone 5-17 and I had to stop before I permanently quit this game. Constantly getting matched against teams anywhere from 50-150 points higher, and even for just starting this game in the morning, I am consistently outperforming players on my team at double/triple the level.

Is matchmaking always this much of a joke?
 
My god PLEASE stop following others into areas they clearly have covered.

And CHECK YOUR MAP, people. You can easily see where the enemies are.

EDIT: Why are all three of you on that same area aaaaaaaaaaaaaaGGGHHHHH
 
Spent all day in a LAN session, had some fun battles and by the end we had a ninth Switch on spectator mode with a capture card to record matches. Once the initial hurdle of getting everything together, sorting out the wiring and labelling EVERYBODY'S STUFF was passed, everything went smoothly.
 
LOL 3 times in a row we get kicked out of the lobby because it says there aren't enough people. I'm watching my gf queue up right now on her Switch XD

I remember the splatfest matchmaking being terrible up until they implemented power in Splat 1. So no.
 
4 losses in a row now because my team are too busy holding each others hands to bother covering more ground or taking care of the enemies inking our base.

Killed 3 of the team in quick succession and teammates didn't even move up.
 
As a ketchup player (EU) I have to admite our team sucks. Whenever I face a Mayo team we either get steamrolled or win with very little difference and after insanely taxing matches. However,whenever I face another ketchup team my team almost always wins rather easily.

Edit: And just as I wrote this I got destroyed by an amazing ketchup team and barely won another match against a different one, though they had a teleportef lol

Edit2: And now we steamrolled a mayo team. I think I'll just shut up
 
I think Europe has gone to bed. =/

Remember everyone: Splatoon is a game where you and your teammates swap bases for the whole match despite it always ending badly.

2. I create a private lobby from the game with no password. My friend who was remote was able to join but none of the friends in the office were able to join. So I'm guessing there are router expectations (open ports?) to join an online lobby?

Yeah, you need UPnP on your router to host lobbies.

I'm getting matches fairly quickly now

Yeah mate, this is the best time to try the charger. That's right just stay on the base the whole match, but make sure to die whenever any enemy decides to approach the base. God, he wven gave up for the last minute and just walked around the base!
 
Mayo King. 2,150 power.

Ketchup needs to work on its kings and queens. Played against a bunch of buckets who just auto-walk into my squelcher thinking that spamming the ZR button is going to win them the game. Not this time.
