Splatoon 2 |OT| Fresh Squids 2 Go

I haven't played a ton of it in Splatoon 2 specifically yet, but if nothing else the preponderance of quick respawn/stealth jump sets being toned way back should hopefully make it more fun than it turned out to be in the original game. Endless waves of chain-jumps kind of broke any joy that mode would've potentially had for me.

It's just a wallop match. I've only had 1 run out the timer. Humpback Pump Track is always over in 90 seconds or less. It seems like close range weapons are highly advantaged which makes it feel very limited.

Is there a strategy for this? It seems like you need some to just destroy other inklings while others squat on the tower.

Ranked is a battlefield. Fun can only be had in destruction.

Chargers are a lot more advantageous in Tower Control considering most of the enmy will try and cover the same general area at the same pace as the Tower itself. Stick bombs, Rain Cloud, and the Tenta Missiles also have good use here.

So I've had this game for a week and playing with the Joycon grip is just hurting my hands. Is the Pro the best way to play for this game? Is it worth it even with the d-pad issues?

Also screws you in splatfests lol since you have to wear the shirt
Yup, I had forgotten that I was wearing the Splatfest shirt and was trying to be all sly swimming about during the splatfest and I kept getting splatted and then I realized that I didn't have Ninja Squid. All of a sudden I wasn't performing too hot.

I know that Ninja Squid reduces your swim speed though, but how many Swim Speed boosts does it take to mitigate that? Can you pair Ninja Squid with one main Swim Speed Up and swim at normal speed?

I'm not actually sure, I have a swim speed up too but I'm not sure how much that mitigates the effects of Ninja Squid, sorry. Doesn't seem to be too much of an issue in my case.

Well, as long as it's close to normal speed it shouldn't be too much of an issue. I just know that I generally prefer to swim back into the fray after I get killed and if the swim speed is really reduced with Ninja Squid that'd mean a lot of extra time of me not inking turf and splatting people.

Damn I really love the look of this jacket but the ability is shit, the balance of fashion and functionality is a tough one. In this case, bye bye jacket.

C- to B- in Splat Zones in about 45 minutes (because it punted me all the way up on the rank-up). Did two matches by themselves and got *stomped*, then came back for revenge (aside from one 3 v 4 matchup).

It always did take me a couple matches to get into the groove on Splatoon 1. But now i'm out of C-rank hell on Splatzones, so the quality of both teammates and enemies should be a little more consistent.

Still about 30% through C- on Rainmaker and haven't touched Tower Control yet.

I played with the grip for the first couple weeks or so of getting the game. It's definitely serviceable(a little above average), and I can still put it on A rank guys with it. However, playing with the Pro-controller feels like tapping into your true abilities, your real potential unlocked.

Sometimes I even intentionally limit myself with the grip, because it gives me a piece of mind knowing that even if I lose a few games, there's still a lot more potential in me to do better. I'd recommend the Pro!

Whole thread here.

Disapprove greatly. The best part about splatfest is how you choose a side and battle for your side -- if you take that away its just some generic event that I wouldn't even care to participate in.

In what I proposed, you are battling for two sides simultaneously - a chosen side and an assigned side. The purpose of the assigned side is to rid Splatfest of team imbalance (team count and skill according to stats).

Not hard to understand. The part that I didn't go deep into (and the solution to this is trickier, but doable) is to get players to where they genuinely FEEL the importance of winning for BOTH sides. I think I have a good potential solution to this too. It lies in competing with teammates by contribution.

Fast forward to Splatfest Results...
There are the payouts for all Assigned Teams (Primary) by rankings according to greatest wins. Simple enough. But what about the Chosen Teams (Secondary)?

Let's say that simply by being on the #1 Ranking Team, Team Ketchup Players would get a +4. HOWEVER, if the Ketchup players on that team were weaker than the Mustard Players on that same team, it will impact the payout for ALL of Ketchup players.

Then we look at Popularity Bonus. If the Ketchup players on the top ranking ASSIGNED TEAM were most popular, then their bonus will be larger than those of teams who ranked lower. Finally, we can consider extent(s) of contribution. Let's say Ketchup players of the winning team outperformed Mustard players in K/D (and maybe more). That too will impact the overall payout for Ketchup players.

#1 = 4 + Popularity Bonus (Across All Teams) + Ketchup vs Mustard (Team) (K/D)
#2 = 3 + PB + KvM
#3 = 2 + PB + KvM
#4 = 1 + PB + KvM

So with all of this under consideration, the combined stats of Ketchup vs Mustard will come together to determine the final payout (the victor in the secondary war of Ketchup vs Mustard)

No, I'm not trying to perfect a formula for this now. I am simply expressing the importance of players being made to feel they are still fighting for their CHOSEN SIDE as well.

Yes, complex behind the scenes, but not on users' end.

do you use the motion controls?

Also the 'd pad issues' are there but over blown. It is a prefectly fine controller. Hell, I have had no issues with it in Splatoon2 or any other games except Zelda.

If you are using motion controls, ditch the grip and play split hands. You use the right stick for left and right but you can easily move your right hand up and down too. it offers a much better range of motion.

Map control. Turf wars are a great way to learn how to the ranked modes because the same strategies apply. Maintain control of the map and you control the zone, the tower and the rm.

Wait so Team Mayo gets to keep the OP shirt? Nice balancing Nintendo. Also I screwed up and rerolled my best shoes by accident. GG. I'm done for a while.

For those who haven't noticed, you can play around with the music on the matchmaking screen while you wait for a full host to join. Here are the controls, with 100% official lyrics:

Face buttons (mansquid vocal)

A: My mom is an aardvark
B: Your mom is an aardvark (low)
X: Your mom is an aardvark (high)
Y: Minnesota theme park

D-pad (femsquid vocal)

D-pad Right: Take a bus or drive the car
D-pad Left: You can take the bus, we'll drive the car
D-pad Down: Ah ah
D-pad Up: The bus the bus the bus didn't stop

Right stick: Control Phase
Left stick: Control Speed
Shoulder buttons: Background sounds

It sounds cool when I push the left stick all the way up and the right stick all the way down. I like to wail on the shoulder buttons while doing this.

I hate the person who first pointed out that it sounded like "I have a dirty diaper" and "Just a dirty diaper" because that's all I can hear now.

This was really funny, thank you lol.

Ninja Squid is so good, being able to attack a player, duck into the ink, swim around him and behind him as he's flailing about trying to figure out where you are and splatting him is so fun, or doing that but instead of splatting him instead just moving past him to another part of the map undetected. For me it's a necessary ability for attacking and defensive players, I can't play well without it. Ninja Squid is a main "unique" ability that only appears on tops/shirts/jackets so you can still pair it up with an ink saver.

I'll give it more of a chance. It seemed like a great ability, but when I played around with it I feel like it didn't make a big difference- but I'm more of an in-your-face person when approaching someone and I should try utilizing the environment more.

Did people just forget how to play the game after the splatfest or something?

I'm on a 9 game win streak in ranked and they've all been complete stomps.

So other than the Firefin Splatterscope, do we know which chargers are actually viable in ranked?
Well, Firefin Splat Charger, for one. Scope advantage isn't as cut and dry as it used to be, and not just because of charge storing.

The E-Liter is still viable in ranked as well, but it definitely fares better on some stages then others. Ink mines, while not 1HKO's anymore, have a point sensor effect and a huge blast radius now, so they're incredible for combating flankers.

LOL. When I noticed I could move the buttons, sticks and d-pad to make additional things happen to the song, I felt like a DJ with my own turntable. Especially in handheld mode.

A rank still has people that continuously super jump to their death. I really hope they're just throwing the game because if they got to A rank with no brain then I have no hope for the matchmaking system.

How does ranked work??? Do you fill up the ink in he box area ???

Thanks they don't exactly tell you

There are 3 ranked modes.

Splat Zones: Fill the marked area with your ink and keep it until the countdown goes to zero. Winner will be the ones who have kept the zone the longest.

Tower Control: Ride the tower for it to move up to the enemies' base. Winner will be the ones who moved the tower the furthest.

Rainmaker: Almost same rules as tower control but instead of riding a tower you must put the weapon Rainmaker to the enemy camp's pedestal.
