When are the iPhone 8 going to be available to order, or did I miss that?
Going from 7-10 just like that? Maybe something in between. So 8.What is the purpose of the iPhone 8, at this point? It seems to me most people would rather save $100 and get an iPhone 7, or spend an extra $200 and get an iPhone X.
No, I'm asking unlocked not full price. Unlocked is different that's why it has its own listing for the others.I'm seeing full price option, if you select T-Mobile as carrier.
edit: actually seeing full price option for all carriers.

Any info on those Airpods that work with the wireless charging pad?

Why do people keep trying to peddle "it didn't work". It clearly worked. He swapped phones at the original phone had been rebooted and required a passcode before Face id could be enabled, as is standard with Touch ID.
Nope. The message on the screen is the same as the one you get if you try to use Touch ID too many times and fail. The message you get after a restart specifically tells you it's required because of a restart; Craig's message did not.
Sheesh, that's disappointing. Any info on the price for that case? It's the same Airpods as last year.
Just a new case for them. They are going to sell the case separately.

Does the 8 have Touch ID?

You mean the cellular? You should be able to buy it anywhere but possibly exclusive to EE if they are the only operator supporting the tech needed? I think for wifi use there was something the operator needed to support to use the Apple Watch to make calls without the Iphone nearby.
The Verge is wrong and doesn't know what they are talking about, as they often do not. You can see the error Craig got in the very article - that's not the one you'd get after a restart.
This is the same screen that would come up on existing iPhones after a device has been restarted or simply after several hours have passed without authenticating through the lock screen.
Well the 8 is really the 7s.
I think I am getting an 8, although all it really has over the 7 is wireless charging.
Yes.

None yet. It's probably not coming until they release their wireless charging mat next year.

And HDR/Dolby Vision Support

Just catching up with everything but I'd be one of those people jumping to an 8+ over the 7+ or X. Currently coming from a 6S+ (which is still going strong with zero issues) and I would rather just have the new tech in the 8/8+ over the 7/7+ and I can't afford the X (nor do I want to actually give up TouchID to FaceID).
There is no message if your Touch ID is wrong after a few times.
It just brings up the passcode screen like normal.
The message says specifically it's required for to Enable Touch ID.
I get that message now and then randomly (like I haven't used it for a long period on my iPad).
Not just a restart which is a slightly different message but effectively the same thing.
What about this part?
Not according to https://www.apple.com/iphone-8/specs/. It is listed under video playback.I thought that was only the X?

I tested it on my iPad and if you leave it alone for a while, "Your passcode is required to enable Touch ID" is the message I get.Nope. If you do Touch ID wrong just once, then you get "Try again." If you keep doing it with a finger that's not registered, you get "Your passcode is required to enable Touch ID", just like that demo. The restart message specifically says "Touch ID requires your passcode after your iPhone restarts." Just tested and confirmed using my 6S Plus with the iOS 11 GM.

Apparently it's just a new wireless charging compatible case coming out next year, but no price yet.Any info on those Airpods that work with the wireless charging pad?
Isnt the X $300 more than the 8?

You get the "Your passcode is required to enable Touch ID" for multiple reasons not necessarily related to an issue with Touch ID. I just got it for upgrading to the latest version of iOS 11.

Are you sure? People in the iPhone it said it changes year to year with which one is like that. What Apple doesn't tell everyone is the Verizon full price model is completely unlocked for all GSM and CDMA carriers.
Even on payments the Verizon model is pre unlocked.
Just pointing out that it MAY not be because of FaceID that you seem so adamant about.Unless we are to believe no had touched this demo phone for between 48 hours to a week prior to this demo, or had just upgraded the iPhone without anyone testing it out afterwards, neither of those scenarios would apply.

The simplest explanation is just that it happened to not work. Any claim that it was another factor requires a level of incompetency from Apple that isn't in line with how ridiculously rehearsed and scripted these demos are.

I've been watching hands on videos for the last hour and my consensus is I'm scared - FaceID does not seem to work very well, it is not very accurate based on angles, a lot of errors where the angle of the phone was off and the phone didn't unlock.
