Benjamin Sisko is better than Picard and Kirk.

Watching Deep Space Nine for the first time. This show is great. Why isnt it held up with TNG and TOS.

Ben Sisko is so cool. So much complexity for a TV series of that era.

Sisko always seemed the most intellectual of them. Picard was the most likeable for his passion and personality while Kirk was a scrappy womanizer.

And yes DS9 was a very well written show.

I prefer Picard as a captain, but Sisko is the captain of the best series and has the best singular episode, "In the Pale Moonlight".

Why do you think he's the best? I can't agree or disagree until you give me something to go on.

"The TV series is more complex than other TV series of the era" is unrelated to your central idea.

I must admit his reasoning and intellect are a breath of fresh air, he's even got the whole family man thing going for him as well

Personally he's not my favorite, I'm more of a Picard fan myself (I have an unshakeable loyalty to Sir Patrick Stewart), followed by Kirk, with Sisko coming in 3rd. There are definitely worse Captains though

*Cough,cough* Janeway *cough*

I liked Janeway the writing wasn't great for the character but the actress was good.

Picard is my favorite though, but I've never watched DS9.

It's so weird that he is remembered for this, since in the show itself this happened not that often.

no.

Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra, Temba his arms wide, Shaka...when the walls fell
That was a great episode and one of the best Star Trek episodes (also one of the best humanitarian displays I know in television), but In the Pale Moonlight still is very special in that it encapsulates the core idea of Deep Space Nine into one tense episode.

Sisko and Picard are great, but I was always a Kirk guy. He was all "Prime directive? Yeah, fuck that shit, gonna mess shit up and fuck ALL the alien bitches."

Better than Picard for sure, better than Kirk I'm going to have to go with no. Avery Brooks is a great character actor but his lead performances are kind of dull, he like a Denzel without the charisma and energy. And Patrick Stewart is the same to me, not a lead, too dull. He's kind of a generic Shakespearian actor really. They are both better actors than William Shatner, but Shatner has more charisma and is far more entertaining to watch.

Really he wasn't a womanizer, or Scrappy. That's some weird stereotype perpetuated by people who don't know the show The people who just blurt that out weren't really dedicated fans and knew the show well. That is just some knee jerk reaction comment really.

Kirk was a sensible and very capable captain who was intelligent. Yes he banged a green chic and some other women, rarely. It wasn't like he plowed a woman every episode. And he treated his female crewmates like he did the men.

Man I loved that show. The fixed set piece of the the space station coming off of the cardassian-bajoran conflict and the recurring characters from both sides made for some compelling narratives and character development. I like other Trek too but there really isn't anything else comparable to DS9s structure.

Sisko punched Q in the face, because he was sick of Q's shit. Think about that for a second, Sisko punched a deity in the face, because it pissed him off.

Captain Pimp Hand

Avery had a very...
Unique way of acting.

I love him but find him unintentionally hilarious at times.

Ds9 is the best show though but I give it to Picard for the best captain.

Sisko was either written or acted (or both) way too over the top, IMO. He became a caricature later on in the series. I'm guessing it was done on purpose to show that good men have to make terrible choices, but at times he looked more like a fascist dictator than a space station captain. Maybe a Tito or Mussolini rather than a Hitler.

I have to say that DS9 ended up being my favourite. I started off not liking it, but it grew on me, the way the characters evolved, the story overall. As far as being s captain, he had a LOT to deal with and much of it seemed to be impossible situations.

The only thing i remember not liking was the replacement for Dax. I found her annoying, but closure was brought and it still worked out.

Sisko rules. i need to finish DS9. only saw the first couple of seasons.

i really love Star Trek. Kirk is a lot of fun to watch but i wouldn't want to be on his ship. Picard is my favorite, he's just the ultimate leader. very few fictional characters have his integrity. would follow that man into the depths of Hell.

No dude is just a bit more crazy. Makes him interesting, not better. He also seemed to let his emotions get the better of him compared to the other two.

But ultimately it's hard to say because he was more of an administrator than I Starship captain.

I think Sisko was probably a more well rounded captain because unlike Kirk and Picard, who flew ships that every now and then had some crisis, Deep Space Nine was in the thick of it most of the time. If Captain Kirk was going through the Dominion War, I don't think any attractive lady would have been left alone.

Duh, Picard is white and therefore by default a piece of racist garbage.

-oh I forgot I am not on Era and can give a real answer without getting banned.

I just recently watched through all of DS9 and I agree that he is pretty good. Only issues i had with the series was the last season and all that vic fontaine crap. Almost every fucking episode. Fuck holodeck/holosuite shit in general. I wanna see the future, not the past.

I disagree.

Ben Sisko probably looked the part... but he was the worst actor in any pre-2000 Star Trek series. He was stiff as hell, awkward as hell, simpering as hell, his idea of intensity was a shaking voice and loss of fluency, he smirked his way through every situation regardless of what the situation was, his beard looked damn nice but much to my surprise and disappointment it didn't buff his acting chops.

Nope. Picard all the way.

*Cough,cough* Janeway *cough*
her entire series was just too weird and consuming for me to remember any of it... any kind of linear timeline of events, or points of interest. I can honestly only remember the first episode and the one where they like remote infiltrate a federation space station... I just remember searching for 'Seven of Nine Hentai' or whatever her name was~

Finally, I present this adonis as a candidate for greatest:
