Everyone always wants to brag about how fast they implemented something to make it look like they have polishing to do.
Whatever bro. The day I need an SSD to play a game, I'll be the first to tell you. Until then, you can keep justifying the power of the SSD being a factor in these games graphics all you want, but the truth is that the GPUs on these next-gen consoles are still bandwidth limited.

He's not wrong though. Your average PC will not be able to run it. But, provided the PC has enough RAM space and enough CPU power to do decompression, the SSD is not required to be able to run this on a PC.

Until we get a breakthrough in the 3D/Art pipeline, this kind of demos mean nothing.
Sure it is nice looking and it runs on the hardware.
But it also represent what i think is an unsustainable amount of work.
Easy to make a 10-15 minute demo, harder to hit that for 15-20 hours.
Is it really financially viable to make a whole game to this level of quality ?
That's always going to be the question deciding how beautiful you can make a game.
Not ,can you do it, but can you do it on time and on budget ?

I'd argue this is precisely one of these times we are shown not more of the same. The detail is just incredible and the speed at which such detail was being pushed in the final scene is a sight to behold.

they talk ps5 on comparison to ps4. they don't mention pc.
So you can't be sure.
they only thing they said is ssd is faster than anything pc but never they say you need one or one as fast for the same result there.

I will give credit here for getting everyone talking and excited. MS had a whole presentation, yet Sony managed to get it done with this little few minute video.
And since UE and EPIC are not exclusive its a big missed oppurtunity for MS to not of had this demo at their showcase. Imagine if MS would of debut UE 5 last week there would of been a very different reaction.
Even if this is another deep down/Killzone moment doesn't matter Sony got what they needed which was to get people excited about "next gen" and PS5 while MS was just a whole bunch of Meh and wheres the gameplay.

That is a demo of unreal 3.95 on a very very high end PC.
It was demoed at the end of the 360/ps3 era to showcase the potential of the engine after a full gen of updates.

Only thing I found little strange on the demo was actual animation (especially hair) and the touted scarf which were being told it's moving very naturally, but didn't seem that natrual at all, never getting in the way of the player. Other than that - I thought it was awesome - especially the flying scene, which probably involved huge amount of data load in, hence the power of SSD.
But after all, it's a tech demo. Remembering the PS2 Tech Demos and all (which basically killed Dreamcast hype for a lot of people - to wait for the PS2), as well as Unreal Engine being pretty much universal engine for all major platforms - I'm sure XSX would handle it just as well, if not better with faster CPU and more plentiful CUDA units.
Perhaps super speed SSDs may be a must have in order to play a game in the future - unlike console gamers, PC gamers are more likely to put big bucks on their rigs, so maybe that's the case... but I think that's really pushing it too far. In the end, Developers would have to look at and also think about the players with moderate setups and all.
But after all, it's a tech demo. I just talked to someone at Epic. They are proud of it running on the PS5. They wanted to showcase that. It's always been running on the PC.

you can load the whole demo in 32 gig ddr4 ram which is 2x faster then the ps5 ssd ..

I was blown away by the demo running on the PS5 devkit. It made me smile because it let my imagination run wild about the things that are going to be accomplished, the tech thing that predicts where the characters feet and hands are going to be placed while touching the geometry was something that i was expecting. The lighting looks awesome wiht the global ilumination, Cerny said on the Road to PS5 that he has seen RT run on a PS5 and if add RT on top of what we watched today, we are going to have a feast for our eyes!

They're popular for sure and I guess they'd rather make a Uncharted like demo than make something like the Squall-Rinoa dance scene or the FF7 tech demo.

(Sweeney already implied it would run ok with an NVMe SSD. And they also said the engine will run on current generation consoles, with compromises. So it seems they can scale the fidelity of the Nanite system based on the capability of the hardware. The key thing about what I quoted is that Sweeney is talking about the fidelity of the demo, not the ability to run at all.)

Kinda sorta agree. I think the character model was nothing special but that kinda depends on the art direction honestly. The art is obviously fantasy-oriented and I think it's kinda cool that they mixed the photogrammetry with that fantasy style. I tend to look at the demo as a whole. It was impressive regardless of the framerate or resolution. On the other hand it does make me wonder about other things like what would be the scope of a game like this. Once you add up all the pieces, will they need to cut corners in some ways.
That's why I don't get too hyped over tech demos. If this was a game slated for release I'd be like "Day One insta-buy". It's not and so while it fun to imagine the possibilites, even be hopeful, I've been disappointed far too many times to fall for this again.

It is using a dynamic advanced temporal retro construction tech.
For better of for worst even PC games are using that (DSLL) and you will see a lot in the future.
Perhaps native resolution will be find in very few titles.
It is a trade off for graphic fidelity and effects.
