Xbox Series S Revealed (Brad Sams) - $299 Price

Who was the one that said that Series S isn't ideal at $299 when I had said that it was? Come out, fight me.

I was one of those people. To me it meant one of many things.

- MS was willing to take a HUGE hit on the cost
- The XSS had some big changes to the hardware that wouldn't make most people want it (something bigger than just the lack of a media drive).
- Or the XSX wouldn't be $600.

They all couldn't be true.

So ERP estimated retail price.. Does that mean if PS5 comes in at a lower price point than they anticipated they have wriggle room...

Or its just that the RRP Recommended retail price has to be published properly by some kind of body?

The MSRP, or manufacturer's suggested retail price, is quite simply the price that the manufacturer suggests that the dealer should ask for a car. This is also referred to as the retail price, or the dollar amount that a retailer should be asking for the car according to the automaker. Think of it as the car-dealer version of the price tag you see on a television at an electronics store.

Although the MSRP is the suggested price, dealers have the freedom to ask more or less than this figure. If a car is in high demand, a dealer might include a market adjustment, which will increase the vehicle's price beyond the suggested price. The dealer can do this because they feel that the market demand is high enough to ask for more than the suggested price of the car.

Replace CAR with anything.

It's the price MS suggested, it can go higher or lower(I've never seen higher in console world, although Zellers(rest in a pit of shit) loved to boost prices themselves), lower means at some point it can go on sale.

Overall it's just saying "If you see it at this price you aren't being ripped off, this is our price target".

You should tell MS this and their design engineers, they'll be very interested in finding out how to make a system function with cooling, with your alternate design.
I'm not disputing the cooling system. I'm talking about the colour choice they went with for the circle.

The price is very attractive but honestly it is literally the Xbox X of current gen with a better CPU, 512 SSD.

Does anybody know the RAM BW ? If only 10gb and 7.5gb is for games ? I think that is a big compromise for next gen games.

It's weird to me, because until now I felt like the Xbox Series X was Microsoft's next gen main console, and now I feel like the next generation starts at 4TF and the 12TF is the equivalent of the Xbox One X, that is: a console for enthusiasts, like the X or PS4Pro, but not the main system.

It's massively disappointing to see MS pushing such a weak next gen console. The more third parties Sony snap up who don't have to support this the better.

We are all assuming the PS5 will be a good bargain in this climate where people are losing their jobs. What if it isnt.. just saying.

And again, 4 teraflops targeting 1080p have a greater perfomance than 10-12 targeting 4K.

MS has put more power into the Series S GPU than what actually needed. Ironically, in some regards could actually be that the PS5 and the Series X hold back the Series S and leave it with so much underutilized power.

You just can't explain this to some people. Honestly, XSS will have better relative IO performance than XSX also. You just don't need to move as much data. 1080p simply doesn't require nearly the grunt required by 4k. This how the 5500 can perform as well as it does at 1080p. It's not rocket science.

How is that slamming their own console? Please explain without the Sony goggles.

Why bother marketing that your console is smaller than your other more "fancy" console that you haven't released yet? People who don't know better will immediately think that the Series X is an old model.

Companies do size comparisons when they want to show how much technology has moved on to allow them to squeeze all this 'power' into a small box. Doing that before the console, that is meant to be "most powerful in the world!", has even released seems stupid to me.

Its priced well and will sell loads, hell I may even pick one up. But the size thing just seems weird. Compare it to the Xbox One X or Xbox One S, but the Series X, really?

Textures take up most of the ram, you only need 1080p res textures , this combined with sfs and VRS makes 7,5 enough. Won't degrade series X at all.

The price is immediately attractive, but I look forward to whether it remains enticing, once content comparisons begin with its beefier sibling and the competition. Otherwise, the console is certainly launching in a unique space; we'll have to see if it finds a worthwhile audience.

At that price, if they can get a bunch of these on store shelves while the other two are sold out everywhere, it could sell very well this holiday.

Brilliant product. You got the Series X for hardcore gamers or tech enthusiasts and the Series S for that parent that is shopping for a next gen system for their kid or anyone who doesnt care about 4k gaming.

Should be either completely black or white. Having that black grill doesn't look too good. The design is flawless, though, it's a rectangle after all and will age well.

I can see this console being #1 choice for people who only play sports games. This is pretty much perfect for them.

Possibly, but on the other hand, people may still opt to wait for the more expensive boxes to come back in-stock. It'll be interesting to see the appetite for the Series S, both during the holiday season and in the three-to-six months following.

the 4 teraflops are targeting 1440p according to their own marketing....
Also, the 4k target on the PS5/XSX is bullshit and needs to be abandoned fast. It´s absolutely unsustainable the moment features like RT are factored into the equation as is clearly visible on PC.
The 1440p(ish) "graphical fidelity" mode (+ some sort of upscaling) needs to become the norm if we want a true generational leap........but what does that 4tf walkman do if the 12tf brother needs to drop that low?...how much of a visual difference besides the resolution will MS allow?

Marketing says " Up to 1440p".

They are just simply catering ang targeting a different demographic. You want something smaller, less powerful and cheaper? Series S is for you.

You want the most powerful console with all the bells and whistles then it's going to cost you. Wallet and living room real estate (which coincidentally is still smaller than the PS5).

Don't see how highlighting one aspect of one console is somehow slamming the other.

So what's this third option I've been hearing about?

Jezcorden tweet..

Codename Edinburgh... is that a xcloud box?

We know that Killzone SF a launch PS4 game uses 4.5gb out of which 3gb was for gfx. Cross gen games should be ok but I should think next gen games should use at least 9gb. SSD can help but it is no substitute for RAM. I do not know why people are defending this console. I would say it will be good for everyone if this turn out to be DOA.

Thats fair. I just find it a little strange to compare the size to your other console you're trying to sell, rather than previous consoles that you'd prefer people not buy.

I still find this whole strategy interesting, MS is targeting this weird in-between segment of people who want a new console and will spend money on it but don't really want a whole new console and have to spend that much money on it.

MS strategy is simple. They are going after a two pronged approach. Some people want better and pay more. Some people pay less and get less. One system runs things better than the other, but costs more.

Kind of like every PC maker with a million configs and prices.

For me, I buy a new laptop once every 5-6 years. My budget I'm willing to spend is $1,000-1,100.

I could spend less and get worse. I can spend more and get better. But I'm fine with whatever a $1k laptop gets me.

Fair enough. And I guess similarly it'll come down to which games each runs too. Many people often buy the lower priced laptops as you say cause it handles all the games/stuff they want it to, so why bother spend more.

I'm curious about that, we've never seen that done with video games. It's almost like two concurrent gens going at the same time.

They pretty much already discontinued their previous consoles. No point in comparing it to those imo.

Yet for some very, very strange reason, Sony has yet to (till this very day) officially announce the dimensions of either PS5 model (it's because it's huge but I digress). We have yet to see the console In real life situations. Only those initial render shots.

When the PS5 dimensions get officially released, that's when we're going to get some interesting and meaningful size comparisons.

People in this thread are so stuck in their bubble.
Not everyone is a gaming enthusiast, this console is going to be appealing to a lot of people especially if it's bundled with game pass.

No shit it isn't appealing to enthusiasts and people who game as a main hobby, but it's not supposed to be that's not the point..

I think it looks fine... but once again XBOX dropped the ball on the "branding" of the console. If I have an XBOX, I want a Big Ol' X on the side like this! Something that harkens back to the original box.

FyuS4Vg.png

Anybody who is dumb enough to try that deserves to have their system bricked.

this looks just like an xbox one s but with black grill. So it looks fine to me. (It atleast looks better than the SX)

the ps5 however looks like playskool mock-up
It looks like it needs to be grill up. I dont see any feet. The black grill needs to go

Once this gets a price drop I'll probably get one. Most likely not until then, though.
One day, I'll be very glad this is an option to buy to go through some XB exclusives.

Microsoft, Xbox, whatever, have the worst branding of any console ever.

I am so confused what the naming is of anything and what it means, so lost.
