Why doesn't this shit have Ray Tracing? If you can't get your "marquee" studio making a next gen only remake to have RT, what does that say about Naughty Dog? Or the ps5 ...
I got a lot of flack in the other thread for saying ray tracing hasn't been a priority for almost all sony studios. But as to the why? It's pretty simple to me. The studios are just too small. Sony really fucked up increasing studio sizes last gen and simply wasnt ready this gen.
You look at Sucker Punch and Bend and they literally shipped the game with just a 100 devs. No wonder it took them 6 years each.
SSM has been a 250 man studio since the PS3 era. They shouldve doubled in the PS4 generation to 500 devs and then added 250 devs again to prepare for the increase dev times for the PS5.
I remember ND really struggled to get Uncharted out with just 75 devs in 2007. By 2009, they had doubled to 150 devs and shipped U2 in just 2 years. By the time TLOU came out, they were a 250 person studio. they only increased to 300 last gen and god knows what they are at now because google has stopped listing studio size for ND. But again, if they were a 250 person studio in the PS3 era, they should be around 750 devs today. They already have three different games in development which means studio is split as it is.
Only Insomniac seems to know that more devs = faster development times. They are also the only studio to have ray tracing in their games. They also happen to be the biggest dev studio at Sony.
It's crazy to me that Sony made billions in profit from the PS4 from year 1 and after 9 years, they only just now started investing in internal studios supposedly spending $300 million in their first party studios. Better late than never but its come too late for a lot of these cross gen games that have shipped without ray tracing support.
That said, thank god for nixxes. Returnal is going to have full ray tracing support according to leaked screenshots with reflections, lighting and shadows all ray traced. TLOU was announced as a PC title so its likely that Nixxes is working on porting that too. Should have ray tracing. Just play these games on PC. Buy a 3080. They are going for just $700. This game should easily run at 4k 60 fps on that card.
