Fire and Blood is part one of the entire history of the Targaryen, like a 300 year span. Part 1 covers the first 150 years, including the period of Rhaenyra and a bit after.
So for show purposes, F&B is enough. And even if they get to HotD season 6 or whatever, there is another book, World of Ice and Fire, that would cover that period, in a bit less detail, anyway.

Doesn't season one cover the second half of the first book? How would they spread 6 seasons through that even if the second book comes out in time? Would need to be advancing the story at a snail's pace
I don't think they can cram that into 10 episodes.
It's 27 years. There is obviously going to be a time jump to get to the grown version of the girls at one point, but there's no way to do it in 10 episodes.

Maybe I'm just too honed in on the 6 seasons portion of the comment, but I also don't think I've ever seen two seasons of a TV show cover just half of one book.
6 seasons out of 1.5 books is wild, if the second book even comes out before season 3 unless there are some dramatic changes by the showrunners to source content, or at some point pacing slows way the fuck down.
Dont get me wrong, I love the show so far, especially since I didn't realize it was based on a book, so this is all new content for me and I can read the book(s) later. I'm just worried that grr drags his feet again and leaves these guys to their own interpretation
The book is a history book that covers 150 years of history. The story of the characters in this series is complete in the book that's released. There's no need to wait for the next volume.

Is it just a condensed history or something that they're using for base events to expand upon?
Would make a bit more sense if it's an overarching retelling of important events, without getting too mired in dialogue.

No. The entire Rhaenyra Saga is 200 pages out of 700. I don't think this show is intended to go past her.
The "season 6" bit would be if they just kept going on to the next generation. The entire history of the Targaryen dynasty is plotted out in pretty exhaustive detail so theoretically I suppose they could keep going.
Personally I see HotD being 3 seasons tops unless they REALLY get into the weeds with side characters. I'd rather they keep the pace brisk.

You have misunderstood what the show is about. The show covers an event that happens in the middle of the first book and the event ends in the first book. The second book takes place after it ends.
The show runners have said they expect 3-4 seasons out of the story and it will presumably end when the story is covered. They can do that without the second book ever being released. They have all the info needed on how the event goes. They don't have to interpret anything or do any guesswork.
The book tells the story of the Targaryen dynasty. It is presented in the form of a Maester writing a collection of stories and lore. There is dialogue, but only the words that were officially recorded by those present.
What the show is doing is taking the events described and filling in the blanks.

No worries. It can get confusing for non-book readers due to how GoT went with the show runners being forced to do their own thing. I think many people assumed the same was happening here when they heard the second book of Fire and Blood isn't out yet.
It doesn't help that the book is not written in a traditional way and is hard to explain lol

Well, the "story" certainly picks up midway through the book, yes. But as has been pointed out many times in this thread it's a history book of sorts. I can't really say much else without risking letting slip a book spoiler.
DM me if you want some more precise details I guess. I can offer a few things I remember without spoiling the story at all, but only through DM of course.

Nothing really interesting happens there though, with the exception of maybe the failed conquest of Dorne. It's literally just Aegon and his sisters burning castles and armies, and (almost) everyone bending the knee. There isn't really any scheming going on, there's no Small Council (which doesn't exist yet); hell, King's Landing doesn't even exist at this point.
There's a reason they've decided to adapt the Dance. It's the period of Westeros history that's the most like the original series and GoT: it has civil war, politicking, battles, and dragons. Periods before or after that are missing at least one of these elements. Aegon's conquest doesn't have the politicking, Jaehaerys' reign doesn't have civil war, while the Blackfyre rebellion and Robert's Rebellion lack dragons.

My theory is that Daemon will marry the little girl, that Viserys was meant to 
, now that her dad has joined sides with him. Daemon will kill Viserys and become king. That's when there will be a timeskip and we'll get the older Rhaenyra and it'll be a battle between the both of them with Rhaenyra killing Daemon.
Not sure if all that will happen in Season 1. I could see it maybe spanning into Season 2 but Season 3 I think will be Rhaenyra fighting other houses of Westeros.

He passed the story to someone else, they're credited on the book. They used to rage about the show adaption. Every episode they did.
That is why we will never get a new book, other people are writing it. It's been known he won't finish since 2005. He also said nobody will finish it, if he died. That was the jump. Go back to the past. They're writing it and he gets credits. Don't believe me, simply look it up. Was posted by them. They wrote it with him.
It's awful. I mean he had to. Very sad for the story. I'm not lying, look it up. The story go to heavy "The Song Of Ice and Fire" has their names on it.

Daemon remains the best. I was looking forward to him breaking the crab people, and he didn't disappoint. The show still has a long way to go to reach GoT but it's doing a good job so far. I was already sold on Daemon but I think this episode has me riding with Rhaenyra now too - she's a real one.

Was it just me, or did it appear as though Daemon's dragon felt his pain when he got hit by an arrow?
And I am rapidly losing sympathy for Rhaenyra. Sure, Viserys is a poor king, and she feels unfulfilled. But she can't be happy for her father, in his happiness after losing his wife and first son, now that he's getting want he wanted? Something she as royalty should understand is so important to a king?
By design I suppose. We're not supposed to be rooting for any of these people.
I like how the actor for Jayson Lannister is using the same affectation that Peter Dinklage has in his accent. Setting a precedent that it must be a common accent amongst the Lannisters.

Lots of obvious symbolisms in the hunt that mirrors Viserys' indecisiveness and inability to rule. It took him 2 stabs to kill the hart hahaha.
But the battle is pretty silly, like dumb & dumber bad. It's all unconvincing enough that this war dragged on for 2 years and they are losing, despite the fact that they have both air and naval superiority. How the hell you lose the war of attrition when the crabfeeders' only tactic is to hide in the caves?? Just let them hide and cut off their supply lines. Daemon goes in on a suicide mission with a false surrender operation because he didn't want his brother's help. Thanks to plot armor, he survived the ordeal. Oh, he should be infected with greyscale, right? since we see him all covered with crabfeeder's blood.

The US thought we could just bomb the Vietcong into submission while we cut off their supply lines as they hid in their jungles and tunnels. The Russians thought similar of the Afghans. Sometimes what may seem simple and straightforward in war isn't. So I can cut the writers a little slack there.
Remember, it was a force comprised of three large nations. Essentially an expeditionary force combined with locals who were strategically in place to hazard shipping lanes. It wasn't just a group of people that lived on those islands. That said, I do think the writers could have and should have made a greater point of that - as the context of the entire conflict is told over several lines of dialog that most viewers probably forgot ten seconds after hearing it.
But, are we sure that was grayscale? Looked like burns and the results of being left out to the elements for prolonged periods of time. I thought one of grayscale's main characteristics was that it makes the skin gray as it hardens, not red and weather-beaten.
