Episode 2 had 2 dragons one of gold full of fury and bold, one of red that wanted a kings hand dead. Alas though a twist at the end the king married the girl that spent time with him.

Oh if only you’d read Fire & Blood. This was foreshadowing GRRM style

Does this show follow the books to the letter or is the story just adapted for HBO? What about the charecters?

It's using Fire & Blood as a template, but GRRM has mentioned that there are two canons: those written by the victors, and the history we get to see in live action during the show. Unreliable narrator and all that.

So basically the conclusions will be the same from the book, but how we arrive at those conclusions will be different (or even were untold) from what we read in the book.

Side note: GRRM is never finishing Fire & Blood vol 2 so the real fun will begin in later seasons when the showrunners have to figure shit out themselves. Wee.

So basicly the end shouldnt be spoiled and will be fitting for the people who liked the books. Thats good to hear.

Cant fault the show so far. Episode 2 is solid and builds up the friction between and inside the houses.

I'd like to see some back story about the dragons as of now these beasts are just a horse with spiky mouths. I dont get the connection with the ruling cast. I guess they just breed them from birth and imprint to a certain person? The kings line is fire deterrant but why?

As long as they don't get their own Star Wars trilogy deal we should be safe.

On a side note, how great would it be to have a Game of Thrones-style Star Wars show set during the high republic? One can dream.

The book is basically a history book. The show is taking the characters and the major plot points and expanding upon them.

So far it is basically 85% straight out of the book. Very few major changes.

You've seen all the episodes? I hope you're right.
No he means that the entirety of the story this show is based around takes place in the first book. We already know how it ends. HBO is just expanding upon the story material and filling in the blanks that GRRM left in the book.

anyway, is it just me or did this episode felt all over the place? First half is kinda slow, the latter half is just goes lightspeed. It felt like Viserys made his decision all of sudden without much thought. He didnt even tell her beforehand. Why would he pick Alicent and antagonize the 2nd most powerful man, despite being warned by his council beforehand???

Also, Daemon's whore's accent..wtf, so fake and forced. No one on set thought it sounded horrible???

Its weird, this just feels like classic GoT while doing its own thing.
And THAT is why it is so successful so far. The very best GoT ever performed was when it was as faithful to the source material as it could be. Season 1 of GoT was as close as anyone could reasonably expect the show to be to the books. Its why it is counted as one of the best of the series. HotD is doing the same thing. It's staying VERY close to the source material.

No needless drama aside from the age changes mostly. No made up BS. No needless twists. It's just the story as it was written except with more detail upon a story that already has an ending and that will be its saving grace.

I just hope they hold that course.

Good episode. Really bummed they went with the same theme song from GoT. The trailer from a month ago had a killer track that would've been perfect.

He’s not great at politics and thinks that wearing the crown is enough to get to decide the course of his own life—it is not, but he has presided over a time of peace and stability, so he wrongfully believes that will have a tendency to continue regardless of his choices. Being a genuine guy who follows his heart leaves him open to manipulation by Otto and Alicent as well. He's lonely, misses his wife, his daughter is distant and rebellious, and Alicent is there to fill his wife's void. It's all a calculated move but he can't see that in the moment.

“Do you remind the king’s men of that when you carry their cups?”

The Queen That Never Was turns out to be The Queen of Sass. The one woman in all of Westeros who understands what she is going through and she tells her its useless to swim against the current.

Top 10 anime betrayals GoT style.

I liked the second episode significantly better than the pilot. I'm back to liking the show now after a meh first impression. I still think it is going to need some better support characters to achieve the heights of GoT, but it is good enough for what it is now that I'm entertained enough to wait for that to develop.

Draemon, the brother....I haven't learned his name yet, should realize he messed up when he has to console his hooker and worry about upsetting her.

You got me curios.

Watched Season 1 first, hated "A Feast for crows", noped out after the last book. Like we ever get the sequel. But that is known.

Loved the story, just never had an ending. The show did and that was the nightwalkers fuck up Kings landing and Arya kills the king. From out of nowhere. Zombie prince stabbed and explodes.

Then Dany (as per the Mad king) goes ballastic at the end and destoys King Landing. Then has her Dragon shot down over the sea. I hope the never to be written book is better. Best part of the extra chapter was Stannis and Brienne.

To keep it show focused versus the books, I did like how they let Viserys make a choice "from the heart" with Alicent rather than another wife for political gain. The little bits of connection they shared were sweet, even if she seems a bit less into it personally versus her dad's desires.

It would be nice if the show took a breath and kinda explained the whole "how to train your dragon" thing. GoT sorta chalked it up to mystical Targaryen blood but I hope we get a more concrete answer here.

The blood river intro was disappointing. Same tune, exactly I think, and that model of Valyria adds no contextual info unlike that genius map intro of GOT, at least not yet.

This is also what i was thinking. Keeping the GoT intro is not a bad decision, but i would have liked it to have a spin on it. Like The Wire, where each season had the same song, but singed differently.

The sets, outfits and fabrics and shit are fucking AMAZING in this show. The team that handles all of that shit better be getting an award when they come around. It's incredible to see how much detail is in the armour sets and clothes

Except the helmet poor Cristian Cole had, that thing was swimming around his little head :p

This King is soft as hell, I hope he gets wrecked.

Daemon is my favorite character, can't wait to watch him slaughter the crab people next episode and ally with the ship King. I enjoy his interactions with his niece, it fleshes out his character - I think he does care for her, which is a point of emotional conflict. He needs to drop that hooker and marry the ship King's daughter. Once he does that, the Soft King is done unless the Ship King is playing Daemon. I think the Soft King is going to get sick or something anyway, there seems to be heavy foreshadowing in that regard.

Definitely feeling the show so far.

Enjoyed episode 2 and how it changes these relationships. I'm ready for the Crab Feeder.
Milly Alcock is a great actress, she looks kinda off, but very beautiful.

you know a show is good when an episode goes by so quickly and you don't want it to end. i felt like i had only been watching 5 minutes when i had to pause it and saw it was half an hour in! only other show, recently, that hooked me like this was Better Call Saul.

i get why it's released weekly and i do like that but the wait is difficult. it was only monday morning and i finished it i wanted it to be next monday morning lol.

hopefully the new LOTR show is good and it will make the wait a bit easier because I think that will have a new episode thursday or fridays.

i'm tempted to go buy the Fire & Blood book now but i'll hold off for now. i want to experience the story through the show and speculate what happens next between episodes.

Also I am normally not critical of how people look, but if the daughter is the star of the show, she may be the ugliest lead I have ever seen. It might just be the wig....it all looks awful on her.
Speak for yourself. She's hot stuff
It's the wig. I googled her name, Emma D'Arcy, and she looks ok without it. She's a they/them by the way.
It's actually Milly Alcock. She's cast as Young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. Emma D'Arcy is also cast as Rhaenyra, but we haven't seen her on screen yet. She seems to be credited with some voice work so far. Unlike Milly, she's ugly as sin imo

It is not hope it is literal fact. The story of these characters in the first part is fully finished. Showrunners and GRRM said the show will cover it all in 3-4 seasons, after which they may cover the rest of the Targs history in an anthology format.

He did in Doctor Who, and he does it in this show: Matt Smith develops more spit in the corner of his mouth than a damn llama. It drives me fucking insane.
Otherwise, I'm liking it so far.

I'm not really seeing how it'll be more than a few seasons, though.
They're not actually planning to go all the way up to the start of GoT, are they?

Nah this is a particular story within the Targaryen history following this story. If this is a success I imagine they might pick another period and do something with that. But it's not going to be a continuous through line from the start of this through to the beginning of GoT

Depending on how many big time jumps they do, the era of Targaryen history this show is covering is about ~27 years. It's 25 years from the first episode of this to the start of the Dance of the Dragons.

No, you are probably thinking of the "Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" book which collects the Dunk and Egg short stories. Those are fantastic and are set about halfway between HotD and GoT in the timeline. "Fire and Blood" is kinda like a modern popular history book, like something from Stephen Ambrose, that "collects" several remembrances of this ear and tries to meld them, so there are alternate versions of events and the like.

"World of Ice and Fire" is a more encompassing but higher level history of Westeros that is supposed to be an actual history book, commissioned by Mad King Ayres II if I recall correctly, that also covers this time period in less detail. Has cool compendiums about the dragons and stuff though.

Anyone curious about the book/show differences, the full spoiler thread is where you can ask. I have all the texts and can tell you the differences. So far they have been hitting the major events but subtle motivations have shifted. But it is a VERY faithful adaptation so far.
